Just picked one up yesterday. Great layout! Super intuitive! I figured most stuff out in less than 10 . minutes without reading the manual. My only complaint is the 1/8" out and the the built in sounds are kind of cheesy imo. But at this price point you have to expect that. With the size and functions it will serve my needs nicely. (I'm a bass player who likes to have a keyboard on the side.)
is this better or the same as the mk3. The only thing it lacks is knobs but is it that deep. Don't they do the same thing. Like you wouldn't use them all at once
I’ve got one on preorder from amazon I wanted it soon as heard bout so ordered it comes soon :) I paid £109.99 for it but when i bought my original mpk which I don’t have anymore it’s was like same price anyway well bout £20 cheaper but i like sound of this one ;)
Only reason i can think of why this mk3 has much unremovable reverb on the drums just like the mk1 is so you buy the akai mpx8 with it to get drums without the reverb
The sounds are the standard GM (General MIDI) soundset. iPad/Iphone users are actually better off purchasing the original MPK Mini Mk2. It has more knobs and can be purchased for half the price. Not sure who the target market is for this as it has no sequencer or recording capability. I'll stick with my Korg Nanokey Studio.
Recording from the headphone jack would introduce a needless Analog-to-Digital conversion whereas with the sound canvas or BSi-16 app you would get higher quality sound engines already integrated into your DAW of choice.

Hi there, quick question for you : my use case is to do some song writing on the go, with essentially clean piano sound. I was thinking of plugging my headphones and avoid plugging to a computer as much as possible. Can you tell me, in your opinion, how terrible is the piano sound ?
hello, congratulations for your review. I would like advice: my 4-year-old nephew is crazy about kraftwerk, I would like to give him a synthesizer for his birthday to try to play "we are the robots" together, do you think is possible with this?
this question might have already been asked, but is it possible to live loop the instruments and beats played on the keyboard into FL Studio? I know these are 2 different keyboards, but i've seen videos of people live looping with the Akai MPK Mini MK2 and i was just wondering if that were possible with this one too.
OK, I'm old school. When did USB start being called "MIDI"...which stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface? Where does the 5 prong " MIDI" cable get plugged in? I have some older MIDI sound modules that have NO USB on them. Will this interface?
Those midi cables you're talking about is just that "cables". Most people on here don't know anything about midi cables but I do because I still have them too along with my equipment from damn near 30 years ago. Anyways, USB is the new standard cable for almost anything that has to be transmitted from and to the computer. So just because you don't hear people talking "midi cables" anymore doesn't mean midi is not being transmitted because technology has changed and most equipment, I am almost certain, use USB cables to transmit midi data.
@@jesusneverexisted300 That may be true, but the TRUE meaning of MIDI is that ANY piece of gear with MIDI connections can control, or BE controlled by ANY OTHER piece of MIDI gear. That is a WHOLE LOT MORE useful than HAVING to be connected to a computer. I used 9 different pieces of equipment in the 80's and 90's that were ALL interconnected and Controlled by ONE keyboard that changed EVERYTHING to the patch I wanted at the same time. Seems like it's LOST a lot of usefulness! Everybody doesn't use computers for everything.
@@thomasmartinscott Okay, now I see where you are going with this. Yeah every piece of hardware was being controlled by some type of controller...that is true. And every piece of hardware was able to communicate with one another by way of the controller and that is also true. t is the same today except for it is even more efficient with a computer. Today's technology doesn't require a lot of hardware. You only really need a keyboard controller such as this one in this video. The other hardware (keyboards, drum machines, guitars etc) are not needed as much. They have been replaced with software and they are called vst’s, au’s and some others that I can’t remember at this time. I think VST’s stands for virtual studio technology. This technology is much cheaper, more efficient and you can pretty much have an entire studio in the palm of your hand. And, on top of all that, the technology is easy to learn, easy to master and you can even purchase vst's or wave files that can help jump start most of your production because they are drum parts, bass parts, keyboard parts etc that you can just plug into your production. They also have vst's for damn near every old school instruments which you can add to your collection of vst instruments for dirt cheap. For example, you can purchase a moog emulated vst for less than $100 and it sounds just like the old moog. I think that a person such as yourself would do well with investing in a DAW (production studio) which stands for Digital Audio Workstation which is basically your reel to reel, a mixer and some vst instruments. Most DAWs are less than a $500 and they come equipped with tons of vst's so that you can easily get started making music right away.
