HOW TO: DIY Replace RV Mushroom Roof Vent

  • Our Mushroom roof vents were original to our rig, and they were SO sad and broken. They weren’t actually doing their job at all. The punch out holes in the roof for the vents were actually still in tact. The sealant was badly cracked. It wasn’t until we got to removing them that we saw the screws were done at an angle (not even in the meat of the roof) because the assembly line workers were too lazy to loosen parts so they could actually put the screws in perpendicular to the roof. The cap that prevents moisture from falling into the vent was in pieces…..Long story short, it was way past time for a replacement and we were glad we did it. It was a simple/cheap fix and required minimal tools and supplies. This upgrade will help vent heat from collecting in the rafters so in turn it will help with cooling our 5th wheel.
Items we used: Drill, screws, putty knife, lacquer thinner, butyl tape, and self leveling lap sealant.

Very nice explanations. Thank you. I was wondering if my kid was supposed to be tight or not. Looks like the answer is yes .

Oh man us too!! We’ve had such a rocky start with Jeff losing his job, the crazy material costs quadrupling, concrete shortages. Now Jeff’s back is causing issues that are delaying our getting our business up and running to bring in the money 🤪
