- Forty days after their plane crashed in the Amazon jungle, four children were found alive. NBC News’ Marissa Parra has the details on the weeks-long search effort for the children, who are between the ages of 11 months and 13 years old, and the rescue on Friday.

I cannot fathom keeping mySELF alive in the jungle for 40 days. What these kids did was astounding, and I imagine the oldest was likely caring for them all and keeping them together and, somehow, alive - 40 days is a long time after suffering trauma, loss, and grief, to pull yourself up and focus on survival. These kids are miracles, each one.
It's amazing, but somewhere deep down in all of us that survival instinct is there, dormant. It only needs a scenario like this one to awaken fully. Don't discount anyone when it comes to survival.

That poor dog, lost looking for those children should be given gratitude too. He was looking so hard that he never came back. The thirteen year old has all my praise for keeping his surviving family alive. Sending prayers for that family and missing dog.

I can’t even fathom the grandparent’s and family’s joy when after 40 days, they’d provably given up hope and expecting a recovery effort, they hear word that not only did they find the children but every single one is alive. Just absolutely amazing. What a joyous occasion ❤

Amazing!! The older sister is a natural leader. It is a miracle but it is also important to highlight how well the indigenous cultures teach their children survival skills. I am so proud of everybody involved in the mission of finding them.
The efforts of the searchers are commendable. They left food for them to find. They were always thinking in terms of them surviving and helped them until they were discovered.
Looking forward to seeing the survival movie they make about this incident.

Wow what an unbelievable story. That 13 year old is a genius to keep their siblings alive for this long. Absolutely incredible and hats off to the incredible rescue mission that didn’t give up on them. What a real life modern miracle. Almost sounds like a biblical story. And they managed to survive after realizing their mother had died. They had to have tried to find her and or have seen the body. Absolutely devastating yet miraculous story.

It was confirmed that the K9 was found dead. The dog ate something and got fatally poisoned inside a hole with wooden spikes inside.

Amazing, so thankful the children survived such a horrific ordeal. Thank you to the responders that searched in such harsh conditions, all who helped rescue these children are absolutely heros.

The kids belonged to an indigenous community, so they weren't regular city kids. But it is still absolutely incredible considering how young they are neverthelesd (youngest was only 11 months old).
Mom must of been watching over them. She can finally rest in peace knowing her kids are all safe.

Yea, a movie about kids sitting around for 2 hrs eating the rescue dog, Wilson, and munching on fruit sounds like a real thriller.
They said they saw el mohan , it's a bigfoot type legend and they were protected by forest spirits .
They made one of the soccer kids trapped in a cave in Asia and were recused.

The children were indigenous they knew how to survive. I am so proud of those kids, and so happy that they kept looking. That being said those kids are more prepared for what’s coming in the future. They know how to live in the wild, we can’t even live without electricity for a day.

Indigenous doesn’t always mean they know the land. They’re family members ere wearing tshirts and jeans like everyone else. More likely they live in a village or other small community.

Such an awe-inspiring story of hope and survival. Thank you to all those who scoured that jungle looking for those innocent young children. Im still so shocked they were found alive and knew it would be a miracle if ever found, we witnessed this miracle!

I am so happy that there is this outcome for all four of them. Frankly, I didn’t expect it, as we didn’t know whether any of them were injured and I didn’t know whether the baby would be able to adjust to the sudden loss of milk. I just hope that Wilson makes it out too.
