*Yepp, Thomas Winkler was featured in "Valhallelujah". At the time he was Angus McFife and lead-vocalist of Gloryhammer. But those times are over. In August 2021 Winkler separated himself from the band. He exchanged his weapon, from hammer to sword and came back one better as Angus McSix with his new sword Sixcalibur. On 4th July 2022 the debut-album of his new band was released with the title : "Angus McSix and the Sword of Power".* 🎸🥁🎸🎵💿🎶⚔😈🔥

This song is so catchy, I love it even more than the original.
I suggest more Saltatio Mortis. Their songs The Dragonborn Comes and Pray to the Hunter are my favourites, and the videography in those is outstanding.

Thomas Winkler (formerly aka Angus McFife, now aka Angus McSix) also featured on the live version of Feuerschwanz' I See Fire cover (Ed Sheeran). The two axe wilding ladys are the Miezen (Kittys) Feuerschwanz' eye candy/ stage & video performers. They appeared in the video for Seth by Ad Infinitum. The red haired one is also the harp player of The Dark Side of the Moon.

I love this cover by Feuerschwanz but the original by Manowar is quite good, too. Thomas Winkler aka Angus McSix was in Valhalleluja. His own current band is also called Angus McSix, back then he sang in Gloryhammer. There are actually quite a lot of guest singers in this video by Feuerschwanz. :D

iirc this video was shot during the time between leaving Gloryhammer and starting McSix, thus why he is credited with his real name, and not as Angus.

funfact: Alea from Saltatio Mortis wasnt actually there in the shot because he was sick. He did an single shooting on a local site and was edited in.
In General i think the alternativ-music-scene (Fok, medieval, metal etc) in germany is very tight together, they do features and crossovers all the time. Doro Pesch did an legendary feature with Saltatio mortis called Salome, Lord of the Lost did a roxette-cover with 90s-pop-icon Blümchen and the medievel people play a lot together on festivals and help out each other. A big thing is the MPS, a huge travveling medieval market where most of those medievel-folk-rockbands started and still play. They sit on the bar and chat with the "common" there, its very cool.

The Thomas Winkler from Switzerland was the singer of Gloryhammer. He founded in 2022 Angus McSix. Also a founding member is the German producer, singer and guitarist Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann, the head of Orden Ogan. I can only recommend their song “Gunmen”: ruclips.net/video/JPm46Qgyn24/видео.htmlsi=WQ8sIeJESFcize8S
Fun fact: in a video from TankTheTech I saw that Alea from Saltatio Mortis was sick at the time of the video recording. If you pay close attention, you'll notice that there are only film recordings of him in which he can be seen alone, because they were re-shot.

Thomas Winkler is the former singer of Gloryhammer. His name was Angus McFife. Now he called himself and his new band Angus McSix. and yes, he is Odin in Valhalleluja.

  • @TheMikeLyons
    @TheMikeLyons 6 месяцев назад +3

    A couple fun notes:
    1) you are right; the guy in the green armor is Thomas Winkler and yes, he was Odin in the Valhalleluja video. He used to be in a band called 'Gloryhammer'. Which two facts make him singing the line "We are the hammer of the Gods" particularly funny. Thomas can currently be found as the frontman of Angus MacSix.
    2) If you like the blending of all these good people, check out the band Dark Side of the Moon. It's Melissa Bonny (the female vocalist from this song, also lead singer of Ad Infinitum, formerly Evenmore and Rage of Light), Hans Platz (the guitarist with the tophat), Jenny Diehl (the redheaded fighting woman), and Morten Løwe Sørensen (the drummer of Amaranthe).
    3) Bonus tip: the first man to sing (long hair, facial paint) is Ben Metzner of Feuerschwanz and another band called D'artagnan, which is a little more 'folksy' in sound (like Saltatio Mortis).
    4) Bonus Tip the Second: as someone else noted below but in case you missed it, when they were filming this, Alea of Saltatio Mortis was sick and couldn't join them. That's why all of his scenes, you can't see anyone else with him. He filmed at a later date and they added his footage during editing.

    Hey Arias
Alea the Modest, lead singer of Saltatio Mortis, was unfortunately not part of the main filming of the video due to illness. He recorded his part a little later and the place was different. But it was brilliantly edited into the video so that it wasn't particularly noticeable. Only when the drone camera pulled out could you see that he wasn't in the picture.
This is by far the best cover I've seen so far. It sounds more powerful and has significantly more impact than the Manowar original, sorry.
“Blinding Lights”, “I see fire”, “Dragostea din tei” and “Gimme ! Gimme ! Gimme!” are also recommended to see.
Have fun....And oh yes, almost forgot: Never mess with the two kitties MushMush and Myo.....They will stomp you into the ground with a cold grin.....
    The lady

Yeah, the European metal scene seem to be a bunch of big families. Be it all the Napalm artists regularly collaborating or the central hubs of Ayreon and Avantasia for the Prog/Symphonic/Power Metal side. Once you get into the bands, familiar faces keep showing up everywhere. I really like that.

So stoked you did this one! You're right about the German bands, they are so supportive of each other and genuinely friendly to fans. These bands really stepped up during Covid lockdown, doing hangouts, zoom calls. I rememer the hangout for this video with Angus talking about his alphorn, Melissa, Musch Musch, Hans and Hodi. I've been working up to asking for Lord of the Lost that is a very diverse rabbit hole, you might pop out in Narnia or something. I suggest Priest.(and yes they are friends with these guys!) Thanks a bunch!

If you want to see a weird combo - more medieval metal style
check out Sasha (of the Hypa Hypa cover in the roller rink), Saltatio Mortis,
Feuerschwanz, Subway to Sally, Tanzwut, dArtagnan and Patty Gurdy
performing "Kaufmann & Maid" (it is in German)
    ruclips.net/video/K4T5NEiyK5g/видео.html
It arose out of Sasha being on a German late night TV show
saying he thought medieval music wasn't good
and the other bands persuaded him to record this song.
    Enjoy!

I don’t know the original, but I liked this. ❤
The scenery is beautiful as well. 😊
Here is a little German lesson:
    Feuerschwanz is pronounced
    like: foy ah shvahnts
Feuer means fire 🔥 and sounds similar to the British pronunciation of fire. But instead of the i say oy. (the r is silent in most dialects)
Schwanz means tail. There is nothing similar in English (that I can think of) 🤷‍♀️

The answer to your question near the beginning - " WHAT'S THAT ? " - THAT is a HURDY GURDY played by Johanna von der Vogelweide .
The hurdy gurdy is a string instrument - think of it as a sort of violin played by turning a wheel which acts like a violin bow on the strings - it's roots date back almost 1,000 years

Another great reaction! Love this song! Especially because Joanna is playing her hurdy gurdy, which I am a huge fan of and sounds so cool. Feuerschwanz usually includes a couple of covers like this on the deluxe editions of their albums. Next I would recommend Untot Im Drachenboot. to listen to one of their originals. Other great songs are Memento Mori, Bastard Von Asgard with Fabienne Erni from Eleuveite, and Berzerkermode. I really love Berzerkermode. Video is hilarious with TikTok Jesus getting ripped working out including doing chest flys on the cross (cross fit!). Bastard Von Asgard is also really cool video taken from Norse mythology about Loki's bastard son Fenris who can shapeshift into a wolf.
Since you have already checked out one of Fabienne's bands you nee to checkout her other band Eleuveite. They are a Swiss folk metal band that also features the hurdy gurdy (one of the reasons I love Eleuveite). Rebirth is a great song with Fabi singing the lead. Other great songs are Inis Mona, Rose for Epona, Omnos and Call of the Mountain. These songs were originally recorded with their first singer, Anna Murphy, so if you watch the music videos you will see her instead of Fabi. Omnos is really cool because it is sang in Gaulish, the ancient celtic language of the Gauls, that had gone extinct in the 6th century but has been resurrected by scholars.
For more hurdy gurdy you should checkout Patty Gurdy's work. I love her guest spot with Scardust on Concrete Cages. Scardust is an Israeli prog metal band lead by Noa Grumman. She also leads the Hellscore choir that was featured in Arjen's Star One song Lost Children of the Universe.

ManowaR, like Sabaton, proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that if given the chance, metal music could unite the world as never seen before. Why? Because we all love the music, no matter what genre of metal, band, or song it is.

    I suggest: "Bastard von Asgard"
btw: try saying something along the lines of "Foyer-shvants" (what you say now is more "fewer shwans" and doesn't really sound like the German does)
btw 2: "fire tail" is one way to interpret the name. "Fire D*ck" is just as valid an interpretation. When you say the word in German you literally have both in mind at the same time ...
