Subscribed!! This is exactly the kind of video I was looking for. Like yourself, I have watched a ton of videos trying to figure out the best laptop and like you mentioned, the keyboard is something that plays a HUGE factor lol. This video was well made and I know a ton of time went into it gathering all these different real life scenarios. But question, have you ever used this on your couch and had the x17 on your lap? Is it too hot, too awkward to just use due to the size? I ordered a Razer 15 (2022) and the x17 r1 and waiting on delivery. I mainly will use it as a desktop replacement for work but a little play and a little couch coding/email writing for work.
I used to use it on my lap every night. I use a lap desk, that makes it more comfortable and it allows for better cooling. That's part of why the keyboard was so important to me. Also, spoiler for a future video, but I have been using this as a desktop replacement for a few weeks and it runs like a champion
@@5after12 appreciate the quick response!! One last question, when you use the TB dock, do you keep your laptop in clamshell mode? I only ask because of the vents at the top, and I believe their intake but didn’t know if the heat would possibly damage the screen since I’d be using mine in a dual external monitor set up + clamshell mode.
No I use it opened up. It definitely vents out the keyboard deck, so you will get better performance with the lid open. I use it with the Alienware 38 inch monitor and the Alienware X17 R1 on the left hand side on the Curve laptop stand. I use the Win+P button a lot. Sometimes I use the Alienware X17 as a 2nd monitor, like while gaming I leave it on the "Fusion" tab of Alienware Command Center so I can keep an eye on my temperatures. But if I just want to focus on my main display I can turn off the laptop display while still leaving the lid open. If you do that you can still have the X17 keyboard light up
No doubt you are a strong dude! but if you are carrying a second laptop I guess maybe you can get the new GAN 330w charger for X17R2 to reduce some of that weight lol.
It should not get hot during web surfing. Games would vary depending on the game itself and what settings you have enabled for the GPU. Overall I found it to be a very capable device
Well they don't make the one in the video anymore, that was the X17 R1. They made the X17 R2 last year, but they will be making the X16 R1 this year. However, I just ordered the Alienware m18 this year
I still got mine one year later still running good I’ll be 2years owning my R1
BOUGHT ONE......2 YEARS AGO.. NEVER LOOKED BACK.......BETTER THAN A TOWER.
i wish they would make an x18 version
