Not enough rising agent and too much sugar. Prob should have done 1 1/2 cup flour to 1/2 cup sugar and added 1/2 tsp baking powder or just used all purpose flour with 1 1/2 cup flour 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp baking powder. Would have worked better. And if it was a bit tart put powder sugar on top.
