    I love it when you call the final compound “the product” keep it up, ur doing great!

    I wouldn't write B(OH)3 for Boric acid as this indicates Boric hyrdoxide. H3BO3 would be clearer for Boric acid ;)

    Amazing video, but I have 2 questions for you:
    1.) Can it be used as a Rocket fuel?
    Does it generates thrust somehow?
    2.) What happens if i mix it with Gaseous Hydrogen?
    And what color does the flame would make with the 2 combined? Will it still be Green?

    • @wooy1701
      @wooy1701 Год назад +1

      basically anything flamable can generate thrust and be used as rocket fuel, some are just much better then others
      since hydrogen is a gas and this is a liquid combining it would be a bit hard but as long as there is enough oxygen the flame should still be green, if there is to little oxygen soot might turn it yellow though

    That was excellent. Shame that Trimethyl Borate is so smokey... and so toxic. It would have been nice to have a green camp fire. Shame. Good work Gunther. ;-)

      I think the boron trioxide should condense very easily into glass so I think something can be done with a container full of snow to minimise the smoke.
      Then again, not recommending it

    Use your dry ice acetone bath to crash out the trimethyl borate from the methanol.

    Du hast ja molar etwa 5:1 gearbeitet (Methanol zu Borsäure) und trotzdem blieb etwas Borsäure zurück. Würdest du für ein nächstes Mal empfehlen, 6:1 zu nehmen? Oder woran lag das sonst?

    Would an excess of boric acid remove all the methanol

    • @THYZOID
      @THYZOID  2 года назад +1

      No. An esterification is an equilibrium reaction meaning you will always have MeOH present unless you remove all water using a drying agent.

    would it be an alkylating agent ????

      It seems like it can be used as a methylation agent in some specialized reactions.
      Trimethyl borate is a useful reagent in organic synthesis. It is involved in the production of resins, waxes and paints and acts as a methylation agent. As a boron source, it is used to prepare flame retardants, anti-oxidants and corrosion inhibitors. It reacts with Grignard reagents followed by hydrolysis to prepare boronic acid. It is also used as a precursor of borate esters, which finds application in Suzuki coupling reaction. It is an intermediate in the preparation of sodium borohydride. hi thanks for answering. everything would be to prove but the PKa of boric acid as a leaving group is very high. I have been studying for a long time how to make a methylating agent and the good ones are all very toxic and difficult to manipulate. the best candidate would be to make dimethyl sulfate but its synthesis in all forums abbreviates its dangerousness hopefully I could find a method to make (CH3) 2SO4. HAVE YOU CONSIDERED DOING IT SOME DAY?

      @THYZOID  3 года назад +2

      @@Josezwitterion You know what? It looks pretty easy and appropiate ppe is in place. Because it was already planned to make diethyl sulfate and therefore just recently produced some anhydrous sodium sulfate as a drying agent was produced ill try your suggestion first. Going to write a paper on it now and because it is easyer than some of my other projects it will be the first project in the queue.

      Everyone I have asked has told me that it did not occur to me because it is very toxic and can kill me instantly. if you do it would really surprise me. it appears to be more dangerous than HCN. But I have my doubts since it has a high boiling point and a low vapor pressure, thus being the best methylating agent par excellence, if you really did it, you would leave me speechless. very good your channel better than nile red
