Thank you so much for this video. I was able to replace my passenger side view mirror on my Dodge Grand Caravan because of it. I wasn't concerned so much with the paint and had to use a crowbar because I didn't have the strength with a non-marring tool. I even did this with a bad chest cold and once the panel was off, only took about 15 minutes total including cleanup time.
@@carquestions Yes early in the video. You must have changed the mic angle latter because not so much in the second half. Any way, thanks for the video, will be tearing into my 08 this weekend.
If you are doing this DIY, you'd need to buy a programming tool that can read the code from the keyfob. They are expensive but look for a place that lets you return it when done using it.
Mark, my door handle mechanism is somehow broken (both inside handle and outside handle don't work). Any thoughts on how to get the door open so I can remove the panel?
@@StickerBoutiqueInc I ended up selling the van without fixing the door, so I never fixed it. But I did rip through the panel first. Then there is a second panel behind that, which you also would have to take out (along with the window). But you will run into a problem there, because the lock actuator is connected to both that inner panel and the part of the door you can only access when the door is open. I think essentially you have to cut out the lock actuator at that point. I took it to a dealership to get a cost estimate, and that was what they were going to do.
@UCbhag_zmFdWOUOA-PhhYmJw Also, you've got to cut really wide on the panel to get fully outside of the interior panel. An oscillating saw worked well. And of course, you should watch some videos and look at schematics to make sure you don't cut through any wires.
danielmollenkopf we run an automotive shop so I swear if I need a new door completely I’ll be pissed. I know the door actuator went out and of course just had to go out when the door was closed
@@StickerBoutiqueInc Seriously. I'm barely a do-it-yourselfer. I spent a couple months researching off and on, and I cut off the first panel. Drove around like that for another month, having to plug in the window actuator any time I did a drive through. I gave up when I realized how extensive the project was. But I took it to a Chrysler dealership and they had never dealt with this problem either. I thought if anyone would have a solution, it was them. Their solution was just to rip it all out and cut off the actuator. Sorry I'm not more help. But now you know what I know.
I am having a problem when I shut the door that it bounces back open, the latch isnt closing around the metal loop inside the door frame. I can see in this video once you take off the inner door panel, that door lock latch/actuator assy still isn’t accessible, do you know how I would get to it? I’ve also noticed that the power window on that same door intermittently stops working, seems to be at the same times that the door won’t close, and I’m wondering if the two issues are connected and if I’ve gotten the right replacement part to fix it.
Samantha - the power window is likely a broken wire between door and frame inside the rubber - make sure the door lock is open - pull on the handle and make sure it looks identical to the other door when open - then simulate locking with the end of a screwdriver buy pushing it closed to see if it locks - if it does then the striker plate may have moved - or bad hinges - if it doesn't move then latch has to be inspected or replaced - it is held in place buy screws on the outside
Soooooo, your video worked awesome and I swapped out interior door handles. Now, how do I reconnect the door handle & door latch cable? It seems to be quite a trick.....
The cable was floppy in there for so long it got hung up on something and I got it to come loose again and everything back in working order. Thank you for such a Great Video!!!
Exactly what I needed to know.. but hopefully my mechanic will stop by and do it...good job by you..
Thanks Jim - good luck - Cheers from Canada!
