I have a mid range system, Ryzen 5 3600, 32GB RAM, RTX 2060. Everything was running fine until a Windows and Steam update a couple days ago. I went from 90-100 fps to 12-24 literally overnight. I saw that both my GPU and RAM were maxed out! Apparently Windows update turned on hardware acceleration, and the Steam update removed my startup options for RUST. So between those 2 things, RUST was completely unplayable. Turned off hardware acceleration and limited the RAM used by RUST to 16GB. All is back to normal with fairly high settings still getting 90-108 fps. If you have experienced radical game quality issues suddenly, check these 2 things. None of the in-game settings made much of a difference, it was all hardware and RAM usage.

For wireless mices users, if u do have micro stutters, set in ghub, bloody software, razer synapse or whatever mouse u have 1000hz, I've had 8k and it was unplayable, I've tried even 125,250 but 1k got me rid of lags, 1000hz is the same amount of hz that wire one has. Because I have been playing and streaming Rust now for a few weeks no issues and then suddenly today It's spiked my Ram to like 22gb and ended up crashing my stream out and OBS. If this was my first time playing and it happened I would consider hardware to be the issue but as it's been fine for weeks it seems strange and I've found no fix. oh man I would definitely upgrade your GPU, the rx580 is on the lower end and way below recommended to run rust, the 16gb of ram is also good but i would still shoot for 24-32gb (32 being optimal to run most games), I'm guessing you probably have a hard drive, if you do I would also recommend getting a SSD (500g-1tb should suffice. But your actual immediate problem is probably your GPU, if you get 1650/1660/1650 ti, any of those would allow you to start loading in to play. I have a GTX 1660 and it allows me to run rust pretty well (I upgraded from my 500gb SSD & added a 4tb SSD, both work great. While initially I still had stuttering on rust w/ 16gb of ram, so I added a bit more totaling 32-40gb.) Hope this helps

i have a pc that meets the req on all things but the ram and its 8gb of ram and ive had like 1k hours with it and nothing broke and recently anytime i try to join servers it lags and crashes and makes my computer need a restart yet i have no other apps open taking ram
I would recommend getting 8 more gigs of ram, I too used to play rust on only 8 gigs and every couple seconds or minutes or so my game would just freeze and then return to normal or sometimes just crash. Problem was fixed after I got another 8gb stick of ram
This did not solve my problem, When im first loading up rust in steam it just crashes while loading the menu ui and all that other stuff and i cant even get to the main menu. I've been searching for a solution for days and nothing helps. Sometimes it does get to the menu and i can see servers but then it takes 10 years just to load into a server.

So I haven't been able to play rust and I used to be able to play all the time. My laptop is a mid grade gaming laptop and it runs rust on medium graphics but I run it on low. Anyways, when I load in it loads all the way to loading world and then it either times out or just completely shuts off and shuts off steam.
It may be because either you need to upgrade your ram, or you need more space on your pc. Rust generally requires 16-32 gb of ram to run w/o crashes and your hard drive or ssd needs about 30g of space free
Hate to hear that! Are you by chance playing on a lower end pc? Or do you have a pretty decent computer? If you are on a lower end pc you could try to upgrade to an SSD & upgrade your ram to 32gb. If you have a good pc above those specs, are you getting any specific error messages?
@@tatter2tott_s if you’re trying to play super high pop (200+) player servers, especially modded, you may want to consider upgrading your ram. Your SSD is awesome, I play with 24gb ram which honestly is probably the minimum you should play with. If you’re trying to play with a vpn or crosshair x, sometimes disabling those or any overlays can help.
I had the issue back then too, 5 and 6 always crashed @@Jackson-sr4fk I've seen a video of my exact GPU running the game at 1440 on the ultra preset at 150+ FPS, but when I do it I might get 50-60 fps on the medium preset
32 GB DDR4 @3200MT/s @@kradtfos I've seen videos by zWORMz Gaming where he tested the RTX 4090 with a 5800x3d and 32 gigs of ram at 1440P max settings and got over 140 fps, I have a very similar spec pc and struggle to get 60 on med/high at 1440P, its been this way for ages and I have no idea what to do. your guide did improve things a little but im still missing half of what I am expecting now yes, 60 is playable, but I know I can get much better at higher settings and it is really starting to annoy me
thats no fun! Have you tried making space on your local drive? sometimes when you don't have 25-30gb+ free on the drive you're playing rust on that could give you issues, also do you have more than 16gb RAM? If you have the space and you have like 32gb of ram, you could try running steam & rust as an administrator.
It’ll be tough my dude, if you could order an identical stick of ram and settle for 16 that would be much better. 16 is the bare minimum i would play with.

dont run steam as admin, steam is essentially a webbrowser (version of chrome). web browsers should never be admin

Anyways, when I load in it loads all the way to loading world and then it either times out or just completely shuts off and shuts off steam.
It may be because either you need to upgrade your ram, or you need more space on your pc. Rust generally requires 16-32 gb of ram to run w/o crashes and your hard drive or ssd needs about 30g of space free

Hate to hear that! Are you by chance playing on a lower end pc? Or do you have a pretty decent computer? If you are on a lower end pc you could try to upgrade to an SSD & upgrade your ram to 32gb. If you have a good pc above those specs, are you getting any specific error messages?

@@tatter2tott_s if you’re trying to play super high pop (200+) player servers, especially modded, you may want to consider upgrading your ram. Your SSD is awesome, I play with 24gb ram which honestly is probably the minimum you should play with. If you’re trying to play with a vpn or crosshair x, sometimes disabling those or any overlays can help.

I've seen a video of my exact GPU running the game at 1440 on the ultra preset at 150+ FPS, but when I do it I might get 50-60 fps on the medium preset

I've seen videos by zWORMz Gaming where he tested the RTX 4090 with a 5800x3d and 32 gigs of ram at 1440P max settings and got over 140 fps, I have a very similar spec pc and struggle to get 60 on med/high at 1440P, its been this way for ages and I have no idea what to do. your guide did improve things a little but im still missing half of what I am expecting
now yes, 60 is playable, but I know I can get much better at higher settings and it is really starting to annoy me

i have overalll better specs then recomendend on rust but my pc still can't run it on worst grapchics
thats no fun! Have you tried making space on your local drive? sometimes when you don't have 25-30gb+ free on the drive you're playing rust on that could give you issues, also do you have more than 16gb RAM? If you have the space and you have like 32gb of ram, you could try running steam & rust as an administrator.

It’ll be tough my dude, if you could order an identical stick of ram and settle for 16 that would be much better. 16 is the bare minimum i would play with.
Getting two 16gb sticks would be even better.
