Klaus Schulze - Totem [Stretched]

- Picture Music is the fourth album of electronic music by German musician Klaus Schulze. It was recorded in late 1974 and released in January 1975 on Brain Records.
Historically, Picture Music was incorrectly identified as Schulze's third album, allegedly preceding Blackdance (1974), based on an erroneous liner note stating it was recorded in 1973. His first five albums were displayed in correct order on the back cover of his next album, Timewind, but his tenth album X (1978) displayed the previous albums with Picture Music explicitly identified as the third, dated 1973, implying this was the release date as well. The same declaration was made on his twentieth album (not counting collaborations and records made under the name Richard Wahnfried), En=Trance (1988).
When preparing a detailed discography in the 1990s, Schulze's biographer and publicity manager Klaus D. Müller researched his personal diaries and discovered that the album did not go to press until early 1975. The album is now identified as a January 1975 release at Schulze's website, which Müller maintains. Despite the album sounding somewhere between Blackdance and Timewind, Müller concluded at the time that the album was probably recorded before Blackdance, but released after. Later, Müller discovered that Schulze had not acquired an EMS VCS 3 synthesizer until mid 1974, so the album must have been recorded in the latter half of that year, after the recording of Blackdance. Therefore, the official discography was revised again, and Picture Music is now regarded as Schulze's fourth album for both recording and release dates.

Klaus Schulze...out of this world - yes, undefinable - yes, extraordinary - yes...why, I have no clue, but it has something that...seems to remind you of something from a long, long, long time ago. The location?- who knows, who cares. But it came back and it found you or you found it and there it is. KS has arrived to stay with you and perhaps reminds you to not forget that there is more to live than our little planet. YET - it is our planet from which this message starts out again to find other worlds in the here and now and elsewhere. Like a Timewind, showing us a new En=Trance, a Kontinuum to a journey beyond the Moonlake. ;o)...

Concretamente este album no me parece bueno, es una improvisacion muy monotona, muy poco original y muy larga, se me hizo muy pesado, Lo bueno, o buenisimo por otro lado dire que asi como algunos temas de Klaus no me gustan nada, por otro lado tambien dire que otros me fascinan y los escucho mucho, "Timewind" por otro lado me parece buenisimo, una musica con muchisima personalidad, una obra maestra, muchisimo mejor, su musica tiene una personalidad muy, muy propia, "Timewind" o algunos temas de "Mirage" son excelentes, un estilo inconfundible, me produce su musica sensacion de muchisima nostalgia y melancolia, sensacion de misterio, un sonido de futurismo retro, trance pionero, psicodelico, ambient, tecnologia, techno espacial muy curioso y peculiar. Nose porque si su musica no la conoci hasta hace solo 20 años, y curiosamente siento nostalgia de los años 70 o primeros 80, puede que hubiese escuchado algun tema de el en alguna pelicula podria ser, y me lo recuerda inconscientemente, pero es una sensacion muy profunda principalmente de nostalgia y melancolica, que es muy curioso por la sensacion tan poderosa, de muy, muy curiosas sensaciones agradables, peculiares y misteriosas, pero este album siento ser sincero no me gusto mucho. El tiene muchisimos albumes, opino que con muchos menos mas seleccionados habria tenido muchisimo mas reconocimiento incluso del que tubo. Un artista inconfundible.

Recently I read the opinion that Klaus Schulze was the most overrated composer of our time, another musician said that he was the most important composer of our days - I can only say that I am deeply impressed and constantly accompanied by his gigantic musical achievement of half a century . He has created such a complex universe of impressively original sounds and it is not melodies that are in the foreground like in many other types of music, but surfaces, rhythms, sound worlds and their own spheres that convey moods of grandeur and vastness that absolutely fascinate you - his work stands for itself and I bow to this unique genius!
Wow a three hour version. It's like a mini vacation.

Imaginative and so magically ethereal. Brilliant work (love the still photo here, too). Klaus Schulze is an absolute treasure for the world of electronica music and such an inspiration for my own work in the genre. Today, there's an amazing array of subgenres of "electronica" music thanks, in large part, to Klauz who has been so instrumental in blazing new trails of sound exploration. Thank you for posting!

Brilliant edit, Tato. KS was one of the greatest artists of all times and I'm glad I could visit a concert @ the Audimax in Aachen (Aix-la-Chapelle) about 40 years ago.

Interesting...this time-stretch version of "Mental Door" sounds much more eerie and unearthly than the original. It leaves the listener with the impression of floating through the deep dark expanses of the interstellar void.
