When you eventually get into mods, I made a valor bard improvement mod that makes Combat Inspiration apply to your target and yourself at the same time. And i gave it a fighting style (duelling, defense, protection, archery). And thats it. Targetted buffs that make it better a its niche, and dont blow the roof off of balance
@@roninsohei I did indeed, and I am using the Alfira companion mod (hopefully to be available on console too! It is in the mod manager so there is a chance) and she is killing it with Archery and support spells. It feels fantastic
I love the small buff mods that just make subclasses actually do their thing in a reasonable way. i’m never disabling the mod that gives war cleric extra attack and makes the charges give a riposte. And of course the mod that makes trickery domain double actually do stuff
The act 1 cap of curing should actually be outstanding on this character. It doesn’t mesh with other healing gear. But, you’re already using your bardic inspirations on allies (unlike a lore or swords bard). This just adds a 1D6 heal to those bonus actions. Effectively just adding a first level healing word to your inspirations. There’s very little in the game that creates healing resources like this.
35:58 I love the bloodstains around the hirelings. Feeding your pet vampire, are you? Poor hirelings. If Aylin sees you doing it, she's gonna aggro and then you'll have an immortal enemy right at your camp. Fun, especially on Honor Mode.

Love these sorts of fun builds, even tho this build is the swords bard you ordered from temu building around sentinel and support is a cool idea. Only downside is that Tav paladin can be a bit cursed since if you look at a plant the wrong way you're paying a visit to the oathbreaker.
Great video! I’ve been thinking my next playthrough would be a bard, probably swords because I was going to try HM again, but this has me thinking about valor, which I had all but dismissed!
Pick 2 Paladin levels with this Valour Bard. That is the ultimate main Hero adventurer, that can do it all. Duellist Prerogative or Nyrulna is some of the best one handed weapons. Githyanki leans more towards being a skill monkey, Halfling is actually the best choice followed by Wood Half elf.
I'm personally not a paladin enjoyer but I tried this out once and it absolutely slaps! Honestly, college of valour + paladin on a main character, especially if you add in gloves of dex, Ethel's hair for charisma, and cloud giant potions, and you end up being insanely powerful!
@@roninsohei Yes i tried something similar without the Cloud giant strength potion. Where would you place the + 2 ability points bonus from mirror of loss. A little late to the party but I just started getting into this game and I’m loving all these class guides. I’m curious if you’re ever planning on making guides on any of the modded classes? Been playing the hexblade sub-class and I’m curious what your take on a bardlock with that subclass would be
Thanks for this! I like the concept of doing unusual but fun builds that are not OP or maybe even are difficult to play. I find the “top” builds make most combat trivial and therefore not fun.
Yes! I always use college of valour on my party leader tav because I run a tiefling and this gives me martial weapon proficiency and shield proficiency without having to multiclass into a martial class. I then use the gloves of dexterity and use ethels hair for Charisma and end up having a tav with all the skills I need, 18 dex to land all their shots, and 20 charisma (up to 25 after the mirror + the +2 hat) to land all my spells. Add the mystic scoundrel ring in act 3 and this character is VERY powerful at everything!
The act 3 finesse polearm may be an option for this character. The extra reach should mesh well with sentinel. That’s been a good 5E combo for about 10 years now.
I know people say this a lot, but this time I really think this build needed some actual full party combat examples. How does Sentinel really work in practice? What happens turn to turn with this build? How do you orchestrate your party to maximize it? How effective is actually just using reactions for attacks when you have to work so hard to proc it? Sentinel is all so vague and murky IMHO.
This is the first time on this channel when I got disappointed, please don't take an offence, I'm your all-time viewer and did several runs based on your full-party builds. The point is that I though a lot on how to justify a valor bard and always came out with a conclusion that it has to utilise proficiencies, and not just combat inspiration, because combat inspiration is just not enough. Adding a paladin immediately devaluates all valor bard unique proficiencies. And both finesse martial weapons you mention are covered with other bard subclasses. And without that it's just combat inspiration, which is not that inspiring. My take on valor bard is probably gloves of dexterity natural strength character to use some weapons that bards don't normally get to use. As for the split, not sure, but wizard (divination if we can) to expand spell list or sorcerer for constitution saves and flight. Either 10/2 or 11/1 or even 6/6. Not sure how it will work, but it will be justifying valor bard for the reason "I want to use strength martial weapon and be a support caster". Thank you for you content, waiting for your vids every other day!
I think you're putting too much emphasis on a very minor part of the subclass! Proficiencies just aren't that valuable, so I wouldn't spend effort building around them. The real advantage of valour bard is the defensive inspiration combined with Extra Attack - you basically play like a Lore bard that puts out great damage as well. That lets you fill a different niche from sword bard by actually supporting your party rather than hogging all the glory yourself!
Valor bard was one of the first characters I got to act 3 in honour mode. Still have that run but the host of it unfortunately doesn't want to play it anymore.
With the advent of mods and modded classes have you thought about doing build videos based on them? Epically with the likes of hexblade, conquest plaladin or the witch class?
Hi Cephalopocalypse, as usual I'm a big fan of your work, so thanks ! But I just want to say that since you changed your mic, the sound is a bit... unpleasant to the ear, not terribly bad, or enough to make me stop listening, but enough to irritate me a bit and I can't ignore it. @@broadwaystar2b I see. You can basically force tanking with the way enemies pick targets. If your bard has the lowest AC (for example) they'll be targeted the most. This is also why wizards are targeted so much. A wild shaped moon druid, or a beastmaster ranger's pet will typically have very low AC and be targeted often. A barbarian ally can be good for this, too (with a larger hit point pool and potentially resistance to damage). A dexterity valor bard would be stronger than a strength based one for this reason. There's low level trap bard armor. I think it's light armor that gives temp hit points when you bardic inspiration a person or whatever. On the offchance you're being serious and just aren't very good at communicating, there are genuinely hundreds of builds on this channel without paladin levels.
Even the Valour Bard is a better skill monkey than rogues, since Bards gets jack of all trades + Charisma skills besides Dexterity. Bards are the only class that can do it all while Clerics can do mos things except dialogue and lockpicking, pickpocket, disarming traps etc.
Would this work as straight 12 Valor Bard? My current run is custom with no multiclassing honor ruleset and I’ve gotten so bored of the “meta” builds and how strong they are. Would this be a decent damage dealer on say an Ascended Astarion?
It would lack burst damage from smites. Not too much else. On balanced that wouldn’t matter. On tactician it would likely be fine. For about half of the game it’s just a bard anyhow.
This can only be described as a worse version of the standard ssb. You aren't making any use of this subclass' unique qualities. It's like you're trying to make something different by copying someone else's homework. Valor is ideal for one particular use case, being a defensive full caster with extra attack, but does not intend to use their actions on attacking. For example, a front line tank who plans to bait legendary reactions from enemies and healing it off by throwing a potions since the highest healing anyone can do is with potions, not spells. While anyone can do something like this, it is at least something valor bard is best at. Valor 10 divination 2 is what I would recommend. Duelist Prerogative for double counterspell. If the constant pop up for dive Wiz are annoying then, sorc 5, valor 6, Wiz 1 can be good too especially with infinite sorc point cheese.
Minthara is a paladin who owns a lyre. You don't get to fit anyone into this more than her. Even if Jaheira's druid-ism makes her more oath of ancients material than Minthara.
How is it clickbait? When people think of «bard» in bg3 Alfira is the one that comes to mind first. The only other option to consider is Volo and he’s a wizard. It isnt an Alfira build its a bard build.
I don't think anyone looked at his "Best Amulets for each character" tier list and thought you could play Orin. That said, there are ways to get Alfira to not die and stay with the party. Delicious delicious cheese.

You should consider paying attention to the video before posting, since you described precisely what this character is doing ;)
Building this for Jaheira - she sorta plays the flute, after all.
Minthara is a paladin who owns a lyre. You don't get to fit anyone into this more than her. Even if Jaheira's druid-ism makes her more oath of ancients material than Minthara.

Pseudo-clickbait thumbnail lol. Can anyone else say he expected to get Alfira to Level 12 strictly for the sake of Bard build videos?
How is it clickbait? When people think of «bard» in bg3 Alfira is the one that comes to mind first. The only other option to consider is Volo and he’s a wizard. It isnt an Alfira build its a bard build.
I don't think anyone looked at his "Best Amulets for each character" tier list and thought you could play Orin.
That said, there are ways to get Alfira to not die and stay with the party. Delicious delicious cheese.
I was planning to honestly but ran into a bug in my patch 7 playthrough right before the party and haven't had the motivation to start another one yet
