  • Heading N. 200 miles to cooler temps in N. New Mex. Quick run through of Abiquiu Lake Campground and boat launch. Found an awesome spot up above the lake on Corp of Engineers land ( I checked the map) right at sunset. Next morning a local was banging on my door and said it was their access to the lake and private. They were nice about it, so I packed up and moved across the lake. First time I've been kicked out of a camping spot, so I guess that's a pretty good record.......:)

      I've lived in four other U. S. states, but having been born and raised in Southern New Mexico, and back living here again, I find that the culture, landscapes and winter/fall climate are the best, like no where else - in comparison to all of the Western U.S. states I've visited (never been East of the Mississippi). The state park, BLM areas, monuments, give me a freedom to enjoy the outdoors that is such a blessing. Welcome to our State! :)

    Some of the local ranchers out here have tried to lock up gates on public roads to some of our parks and recreations area. After complaining to local law enforcement with no action I finally contacted the US Army Corp of Engineers and they got the locks off finally. I would report that situation you had to their office here in NM and bet you had a right to go out there. People cannot block public access to Public Maintained Roads or Hiways.

    I've been going to that spot for 20 years, it used to be really chill but in the last few years people really have trashed on it and I can see why they want to curb people from going there. Makes me sad because as a ritual I would pack out as much garbage as I could but it would always have more every time. Plus with apps on phones now that direct people to spots like this they aren't so special anymore if you get there and 20 overlanders are there acting like they own the place. Anyway I'm glad the video maker cut out how to get here even tho its not much of a secret anymore. Sad because I have a special place in my heart for this spot. Asked my wife to marry me here among other great memories.

But lucky I don't have to stay there I find spots at the swimming area which was camping when I was a kid but move at 13 come back at 35 and no more but when I go fishing and swimming I set up nights fish while my daugter sleeps and I sleep in the morning so the cops don't mess with me bad. Been doing that 10 years in the summer months but 35 miles each way to far for me to drive. But what beautiful land you showed. Keep having fun. Sorry someone messed with you god bless

    I was on a motorcycle ride last year on 25 south, south of Phoenix. There were some strange places out there. You would see 200 houses and a school...but there was nothing else there. No gas station, no restaurants, nothing. I've never seen anything like that in any other part of the country.

      I tracked it down on Google Maps tonight. Thankfully I have a great memory for shapes of road. Pueblo of Isleta WIC was where we were. It was so desolate we didn't push east once we hit that spot. We didn't see anything ahead that would have suggested there was civilization there. I see on the maps there was. I'll know if I get into that area again. It may have been a reservation but there were no signs saying that. A quiet spooky place where we never saw people, just buildings.

    I have nowhere near your solar output but I am up to 130 watts now, two Renogy poly 50 Watters made portable with both on harbor freight multi angle brackets into an MC4 Y branch connector with 35 feet of cable to the controller which is mounted to a wall in the truck capper. A 30 watt fixed horizontal roof mounted is my trickle charger when the portables are stored inside for travel mode.

    • @K7CARadio
      @K7CARadio  7 лет назад +1

      That sounds like a good setup. I'm running a AC refrigerator and a portable freezer. Lots a electronics and Ham radio time puts a big demand on my power needs. 650 watts or 790 watts if you count the broken 140 watt panel. Shattered the glass, it still works, but only outputs about 2-2.5 amps.

    • @thefrugalsnowbird4098
      @thefrugalsnowbird4098 7 лет назад +1

      That AC frig with an inverter is a killer. I am all DC with a CF-18 Dometic with the insulated cover that draws 3 amps but only runs 6-8 mins per hour. My other power grabbers are 4 fans, a 19" flat TV with digital video player, a netbook, led lighting, and charging for smart phone w/Bluetooth headphones and stereo speakers. I hope to be able to recharge the one group 24 to 100% in all day overcast conditions.

      I wouldn't doubt that. Another thing that was odd that I didn't mention in the video was all the Stop lights are sideways. Did you notice that? Much lower to the ground that way, so blended in with the background lights and the pole they were mounted on. I saw 4 people run Red lights in Farmington. I had to really be careful at intersections and in traffic.

      @2012escapee1 7 лет назад +4

      I didn't notice that, but I did notice street signs in Silver City weren't always obvious. And as far as environmental, Silver City has a ban on plastic bags. So it was a good place to stock up on paper grocery sacks. NM wasn't my favorite place, heavy on the hippy dippy, and light on the essentials, like decent roads.

      Some friends of mine retired and moved to Silver City a few years ago. I to this day can't figure that out. To each his own. I've visited them twice. You can find some good scenery and a couple of good places to eat. If you look along their fences they are covered in plastic bags. I was told they called them the New Mexico state flower. That's why the ban on plastic bags.

      I've heard New Mexico called, "The Land of Entrapment", because if you move there, you may find it hard to get back out, due to the poverty level.

      2012escapee1 It's the truth. Beautiful place!! but alot of spiritual oppression going thru it. I pray before I go any where !! I know if I do no negative demonic or spiritual energy cannot hold me down. Ppl in that area are negative and unhappy due to lack of opportunity. I'm here...I plan to move out of here in February . I'm done with nm. Santa Fe is beautiful!!! Best place to live and visit. My home town.

      Well usually when someone clicks on a video based on the title, they expect the VIDEO to show what the title describes not the description box. Had that not been put in the title no one would watch this video.

    The roads looked high wide and new/smooth when you were complaining about them. I know when I travel, the signage seems almost like a different language was used or you have to think like a woman compared to my homeland of WA state.

    • @K7CARadio

      It was an area that was made up for the local land owners and not maintained for many years. They put lots a $$$$ into fixing the lake access road, so I hit that area at the wrong time. I can understand why they don't want people tearing up the area. I found an awesome area after I left there, so it's all good.
