For me Segun is right. In western countries, government while encouraging businesses, discourages monopoly. Look at India where you have a number of billionaire industrialists encouraged by the government to become successful, yet majority of the populace are in poverty. Nigeria should not move in that direction.
The first time I disagree with Segun saying that Dangote has been pampered and this time around the federal government should be strict in dealing with Dangote as a business. He is completely missing the point. The concept of protectionism has been adopted globally aimed at prioritizing local companies over foreign countries. Also, Segun must know that it is difficult to seperate local companies from the political leadership of a nation as they are inseparable. Government policies directly affect local companies due to their immense contribution to the economy of a nation in terms of generating forex and employment for the citizens. Also, Nigerian government has to measure the impact of monopoly as against the objectives of IOCs in making the country dependent on fuel importation in perpetuity.
He shouldn’t get it cheap either because he’s Nigerian. That’s Nigerian only source of wealth at the moment. He’s businessman. Dangote refinery should be run properly
