    I needed this after watching The Father, just to prove to myself that Anthony still is all there. He of course is, but it’s a testament to the acting and the film that it could make me doubt like that.

She is not cruel or angry just different, then she gets moments of clarity like the sun coming out from behind a cloud and tells you she loves you. It's all worth it then, all the empathetic pain I feel of witnessing the slow loss of herself, it leaves me drained, hence reluctance to visit. But I will go because I love her. :(

Because eventually she will be fully restored and THEN some ...and you will be together. There’s no ‘darkness’ at the end, only LIFE. Nothing slips away, nothing is truly lost. This movie will be required to all my nursing staff once it can be streamed or bought on DVD. Many reasons to why but one thing stuck out. The entire movie you don’t know what is real. You experience it like he experiences his reality. By the last scene you are mentally exhausted and never really get a good resolution.
    The end scene, if we saw it first, would be typical thing for my nurses. An old man regressing and broken. But when it’s last, you’ve been on the ride together you see a man who was fighting harder and stronger than any of us have to in our daily lives. He is losing his mind but his strength is extraordinary. It can help my staff give these patients the respect they deserve as they aren’t pathetic, they are merely exhausted after their daily long battle.

    • @freshname
      @freshname 3 года назад +2

      That's something so profoundly truthful. We tend to forget that those people have been fighting dementia for ages, they've gone through hell and now they are just terribly exhausted. Yes, they lost their battle. But not before they put a fight. And the battle they lost is the battle everybody loses. There's no way of winning it.

    As a nurse who worked in a nursing home several years ago and now works in the hospital but still comes across dementia patients often, I wish I could’ve seen this movie earlier. It’s one thing to learn about dementia from books and even from an outside perspective, but to feel like I was in the mind of someone with dementia…I really feel like this will actually change how I work with my patients and will remind me to be more patient with them and to be more empathetic but also not infantilize them, because many of them have already lived an entire life. These are things we already know to do, but the fast paced nature of the job leads to improper behaviors in care that aren’t beneficial for the patient. My heart is broken.

    A truly amazing film, super intelligent and clever. The creeping changes to the set, the main characters being played by more than one actor to add to Tony's confusion. Olivia Coleman is just as good as his long suffering daughter at her wits end. The final scene where Tony has regressed to being a young child just wanting his mum was one of the most powerful scenes I've ever seen.

    I just finished up binge watching _Westworld_ and Sir Anthony was definitely the star of the series. How that man can speak with that voice, ever so slightly cock his head, raise an eyebrow a millimeter and crook a slight smile for emphasis in one scene is more than most actors achieve in a career.

      If you haven't watched it already, have a look at the Nerdwriter episode where he breaks down Hopkins' performance in one of his Westworld scenes.

    This was really an excellent interview. 3 stellar minds, meaningful questions, thoughtful answers, and they genuinely took the time to listen to each other. I mean, Sir Anthony Hopkins.. Just an incredibly talented, absolutely amazing, lovely soul. And sometimes, just sometimes, he likes to headbang!! 🤘

    In my eyes, The Father is the best, most impressive and most affecting movie of the year, by far.
    I wish Hopkins would deservedly win (Stephen is correct in saying that this is his greatest performance) but unfortunately I doubt anyone has a shot against Chadwick Boseman this year.

    Anthony Hopkins stories helped me decide to stay-quit drinking this year after 19 years of drowning myself. One of the All Time Greatest Actors. I still have fond memories of a date to see 2006's "Bobby" in downtown Reno. I didn't exactly hit it off with the girl, but we both really enjoyed the movie. Not sure why the critics didn't seem to enjoy it. Kneeways, thanks for the excellent interview of an inspiring legend.

    Everyone forgets about his splendid performance in The Elephantman. A touching, caring role, with real feeling for the title character, when mostly everyone else sees him as no more than a circus freak.
    Another movie, you can pick up on DVD, Titus, from Shakespeare, Titus Andronicus.'Shakespeare's not usually my bag, it's a bit overlong tbh, but Hopkins performance alone makes it well worth while.
