I recently discovered that Nick has a Patreon account that he has not mentioned in his videos. I emailed Nick and questioned him about why he has not publicized his Patreon account. He informed me that he has not spoken about his Patreon account because he does not believe he has time to create the extra content that Patreon subscribers may expect. He does not want to put himself in a situation where people sign up but get disappointed by not having extra content provided to them. I'm digging where this is going. You will love the freedom your drum sander will give you... Being able to dial in down to .001" is an incredible advantage when you are bending tight curves.
@@SawyerDesign I know... For me it came down to the Supermax and the Powermatic. I went for the PM at the end of last year. I had an older delta and it caused more trouble than it was worth. The upgrade to a pro model has been worth every penny so far.

This is THE vibe we need! The faster paced stuff is great in moderation but most of us are here for you not just the woodworking. So these longer form videos are top tier, they just hit a little different ya know! Your shorts are the place to put some super fast paced stuff I think, and then mix some medium-form content into your main stuff! It can be anything though and I'd watch so maybe I'm biased.

Nick, I do like the shop-hangout approach, and your mental path process... which of course leads you to whatever outcome will be the hardest, most masochistic build possible. Also laughed at each 'neighbor interruption.' Happens to me constantly, and they never seem to notice that I'm speaking through gritted teeth. Congrats on the drum sander! Makes veneer sizing and smoothing a lot easier for sure! One thing to note, not sure what your dust collection set up is, but having a good cyclone will make your life so much easier. I haven't got on on mine and when sanding veneers I need to FREQUENTLY stop and bang out the filters or the suction just plummets. Or just live somewhere you can open the overhead doors in winter haha. I like the design process insights, thats an area where I feel I struggle.
When I started watching this I was like - "I don't have time to watch this 30 minute video, I'll watch part now and part later". But here I am having watched the whole thing - it was that engaging. So I guess I like this format lol. From a 'other creators' perspective, I think you are probably the most creative in this space, and I like Four Eyes style as well.
Every time I come check out a video my mind is blown. Your design skills are top notch with execution to match. I really enjoyed the creative process behind the design. I struggle myself with that as I’m sure a lot do.

Hi. Another awesome build and detailed video. Thank you. Regarding that Makita sander... I use to use that same one, but for some reason I kept getting electrical shocks. Nothing major, just super annoying. I later found out, it's built with no ground wire. I eventually got tired of getting shocked, and coming up with multiple creative ways to ground the machine. I bit the bullet and bought a Festool Rotex 150. I not only gives me all the sanding power of the Makita, but has amazing dust collection that the Makita doesn't. In addition, I no longer get shocks when sanding as it integrates so well with the CT Midi dust vacuumed. I strongly recommend not waiting as long as I did to fix this issue. But if your not getting shocks, let me know how your using it, and I can try that out too. Thanks.

I know how hard you try to not be wasteful, so have you considered investing in bandi-clamps, that was you’re not wasting all that tape (and time)? As always, blown away by your work!
It certainly ups the ante for execution. So many amazing forms to experiment with and explore once you step away from rectilinear. Worth the reward if you’re up for the challenge
To incorporate curves is a quantum leap in design and skill levels. To include complex curves (2 curves impacting each other - such as a dome) is the ultimate. I’d like to say that I’m competent at it; but then, I’d like to say I’m incredibly handsome; unfortunately, neither are….. I can only do it with trial and error; I can imagine or calculate so far but then have to use scrap to finesse what I thought it would be. But, then again, I’ve only been doing it for 45 years whilst Mr Sawyer is probably up to his 4th year now? We’ve just come back from a local craft fair. Very good fair with lots of different crafts on show (plus the usual smattering of lower quality, foreign made stuff). Anyway, there were a few stands showing woodwork products. Apart from lathe products, it was all rectangular stuff but I would guess these sellers have worked their markets out and reckon that people willing to spend thousands on a table or dresser or whatever aren’t going to buy them at a craft fair - or maybe even go to a craft fair. However, I would like to have seen a few craftsman just showing pieces of higher design. What did come out was a load more stuff I have to now make for the family. Cheese boards - “Dad can make that”; segmented bowls - “Dad can make that”.
I have scene the dresser in the background for a while and have been looking forward to seeing come to the forefront. This video did not disappoint! I felt all the stress of that glue up, and when your neighbor came over to tell you about your dog right before the base made it into the bag, "I mean, thanks for telling me, but do you see what I'm doing here??!!" Needless to say, you're getting good at this whole RUclips thing and I'm super excited to see the end result of this build. I also think that one day I'll be building me a Split Top Sawyer.

Thanks Miguel! I prefer to build the edge into the substrate because the edging doesn’t get the clamping that the flat does and it’s the most likely to have less adhesion. Nice to reinforce that with the face veneer.

I'll be curious if you still have that lock set to 5 minutes. We used to do 10min, and I got so frustrated with being out in the garage just longer than I thought while doing something, being in a rush and coming back to a locked door. They are amazing either way, I absolutely love not needing to carry keys, nor coming home after hours away to facepalm because you realize you didn't lock the house.

Hey thanks so much! Trying to find a way that’s mine instead of just trying to replicate what others are doing. I recently upgraded from an A7III to the A7IV. 10 bit 4:2:2 is a game changer. As far as glass, video up until this one were shot on a 24-70 f/2.8GM. This video was mostly shot on my buddy’s 16-35mm GM he let me borrow. Lighting has been the hardest thing to nail down. Still not totally pleased with my light setup, but it’s getting there. Quasar tubes and amaran 120d’s for continuous lighting. 400w Neewer strobes for stills.
@@SawyerDesign The 16mm prime explains it. Definitely in the future for me. An artist becomes their own biggest critic...you're lighting provides something watchable and slightly cinematic. It's tragic to hear the metal post wasn't strong enough for Cam's slab, but serious style points on making a base that looks incredible. I actually don’t watch a ton of woodworking. Andy, Cam, Alm, and Four Eyes. I’m kind of a nerd, so I watch a lot of tech news (LTT, Snazzy Labs) and the creators I enjoy most are from other genera like SLEW, he’s an oil painter in Brooklyn with a pace that inspired this one. Brady over at Texture Labs has an incredible eye for detail. He does in Photoshop what I do in wood. Van Neistat has a ton to teach on the storytelling side. He’s got a very fresh and unique style of taking you along on his ride. Lots of camera stuff too. Peter McKinnon of course, Epic Light Media is a smart ass and I like his sarcasm, and Gerald Undone is the nerd I wanna be when I grow up. Probably my favorite channel content these days would be MakeArtNow (Josh-Yeo) has a little of everything I’m into and he makes such a polished and thoughtful video.

To incorporate curves is a quantum leap in design and skill levels. To include complex curves (2 curves impacting each other - such as a dome) is the ultimate. I’d like to say that I’m competent at it; but then, I’d like to say I’m incredibly handsome; unfortunately, neither are…..
I can only do it with trial and error; I can imagine or calculate so far but then have to use scrap to finesse what I thought it would be. But, then again, I’ve only been doing it for 45 years whilst Mr Sawyer is probably up to his 4th year now?
We’ve just come back from a local craft fair. Very good fair with lots of different crafts on show (plus the usual smattering of lower quality, foreign made stuff). Anyway, there were a few stands showing woodwork products. Apart from lathe products, it was all rectangular stuff but I would guess these sellers have worked their markets out and reckon that people willing to spend thousands on a table or dresser or whatever aren’t going to buy them at a craft fair - or maybe even go to a craft fair. However, I would like to have seen a few craftsman just showing pieces of higher design.
What did come out was a load more stuff I have to now make for the family. Cheese boards - “Dad can make that”; segmented bowls - “Dad can make that”.
Your thought procees is definately on a different level. Really enjoy each of your new projects!

I have scene the dresser in the background for a while and have been looking forward to seeing come to the forefront. This video did not disappoint! I felt all the stress of that glue up, and when your neighbor came over to tell you about your dog right before the base made it into the bag, "I mean, thanks for telling me, but do you see what I'm doing here??!!" Needless to say, you're getting good at this whole RUclips thing and I'm super excited to see the end result of this build. I also think that one day I'll be building me a Split Top Sawyer.

Thanks Miguel! I prefer to build the edge into the substrate because the edging doesn’t get the clamping that the flat does and it’s the most likely to have less adhesion. Nice to reinforce that with the face veneer.
This was a good format, love the designs. Table would look great in our mid century modern house with exposed cedar rafters throughout.

I'll be curious if you still have that lock set to 5 minutes. We used to do 10min, and I got so frustrated with being out in the garage just longer than I thought while doing something, being in a rush and coming back to a locked door. They are amazing either way, I absolutely love not needing to carry keys, nor coming home after hours away to facepalm because you realize you didn't lock the house.

I recently upgraded from an A7III to the A7IV. 10 bit 4:2:2 is a game changer. As far as glass, video up until this one were shot on a 24-70 f/2.8GM. This video was mostly shot on my buddy’s 16-35mm GM he let me borrow. Lighting has been the hardest thing to nail down. Still not totally pleased with my light setup, but it’s getting there. Quasar tubes and amaran 120d’s for continuous lighting. 400w Neewer strobes for stills.
@@SawyerDesign The 16mm prime explains it. Definitely in the future for me. An artist becomes their own biggest critic...you're lighting provides something watchable and slightly cinematic. I actually don’t watch a ton of woodworking. Andy, Cam, Alm, and Four Eyes.
I’m kind of a nerd, so I watch a lot of tech news (LTT, Snazzy Labs) and the creators I enjoy most are from other genera like SLEW, he’s an oil painter in Brooklyn with a pace that inspired this one. Brady over at Texture Labs has an incredible eye for detail. He does in Photoshop what I do in wood. Van Neistat has a ton to teach on the storytelling side. He’s got a very fresh and unique style of taking you along on his ride. Lots of camera stuff too. Peter McKinnon of course, Epic Light Media is a smart ass and I like his sarcasm, and Gerald Undone is the nerd I wanna be when I grow up. Probably my favorite channel content these days would be MakeArtNow (Josh-Yeo) has a little of everything I’m into and he makes such a polished and thoughtful video.

The problem with urea formaldehyde is off gassing. It releases gas for years. Probably not the best choice for a bedroom.
Have you tried unibond 800 for your bent lam glue ups?
I ordered some, but hasn’t delivered yet. Not mixing sounds nice. Heard good things about the unibond one PVA too.
