Verne's popularity as a worker started to falter by the late 60's/ early 70's. People were growing tired of the typical Verne formula card. The big blood feud was always one before the main event. That was what the crowd really came to see. Usually featuring the Crusher or Wahoo or Mad Dog. Verne was always the main event, and the crowd would start to thin out at the start of his match because the result was such a familiar formula. If the belt isn't at risk, there is no interest.
Like hell it did. Not everyone can have a good knowledge about pro wrestling, but if you are ignorant to it, you should just keep quiet. You won't look so foolish that way.
@@Rjensen2 Funny, in the early to mid 60s Verne understood the importance of keeping the belt vulnerable and would lose it a couple times a year to a heel crusher, maddog, Fritz V, Bruiser, Dr X. He could always win it back anytime he desired. He owned the company. But by about 1968 he changed his formula and wouldn't lose it again to the mid 70's. Thats when people started getting bored with him. 7 years is too long to steamroll the competition.
