- While out Dead baiting for pike we had some great sport. But myself and Mark had a surprise Catch of a truly beautiful Ferox trout. These are very close relative to the brown trout and an be caught in Irelands big loughs,

MY God that's an absolute stunner of a Ferox , the colors and the shape. a prize of bronze that no one may ever see again even hold. Mighty amazing fish. Does the loch have any record keeping or tagging management systems through angling clubs like floy tagging to monitor populations of caught and released fish to monitor fish conditions?.

Some fish, well done. Looks fairly cold. Is trolling a waste of time this time of year in your opinion?
Not a waste of time, just can be a bit slower. You need to slow the trolling down in colder weather but use a lure that still works at slower speeds
Very nice. Very predatory once they reach a few pounds. I am being pestered by rainbows in a fishery at the moment. Bank fishing and the pike are doing well to find my deadbaits with the so and so's! Getting more pike on lures to keep me going. But not the big girls. Unless you count the stockie Trout!
I'm not comparing those to your Ferox by the way! In the UK I fished a commerical for big Perch using two and 3oz Roach. I caught a few but also landed lots of smallish Carp of a few pounds. It's surprising what will take a deadbait.
Anyway congrats on the trout and of course all the Pike you both landed.
Sounds like a good spot to fish all the same. I'd try some size 2 hooks might put the trout from taking the bait as much and full sized mackerel could slow the rainbows down. Thanks for the comment 👍

Do u just use the spot lock on trolling motor for deadbaiting or do u also use an anchor
I use to use 2 anchors but have useful the trolling motor on spotlock and seens to work fine
Orite are you able to keep 2 decent anchors with decent bit of rope in your lockers
