      The problem with the movie is the twist. A twist needs build up it can't just come out of nowhere. A twist needs a gradual build up, it can be subtle but there needs to be build up. This movie's twist just comes straight out of nowhere and you have to just go along with it. Another movie that had a similar problem was "Now You See Me" in which the twist just has so many flaws and there was no build up.
      You can call Eli's "allergies" a build up if you want but there not. There just there. Not to mention, when the twist happens, The mother's character changes *completely*. You can't do that in terms of storytelling. Character's change throughout stories, yes. But making one's entire personality different is just ridiculous.
      A plot twist doesn't make a movie good. A twist could actually ruin your movie or make it good.
      I made a special list of movies with that kind of thing. Please check them out, some of these are considered the greatest movies ever made. I hope you have fun with this list.

    The first clue I've learned that he does not have one, is he's successfully able to hug his mom without a skin reaction or a nasal reaction.
    You see, those who live with these issues know, that make-up, deodorant, conditioner for hair, and even scents in washed and dried clothes all cause these reactions, so his disease is definitely NOT an allergy disease.

    I wanted to like this movie more than I did, but I went into it blind, which made the fissures where it seems two different films were mashed together all the more apparent, I think. It was jarring to be watching a well-made, if typical, supernatural horror film one second, and then be thrown into a Percy Jackson-esque world the next. The acting was great, but the plot didn't flow well in my opinion. The red herrings seem, in retrospect, kind of clumsy as well. I respect they were trying to do something different, though.
    I know no one cares, I just needed to get this off my chest. It still irks me a bit, because I want to like it more than I do. Oh well, I'm glad some people are enjoying it!

    The ending doesn't make any goddamn sense. It's like the script got merged with a completely different script. The boy not being able to survive outside because he's a demon makes no sense. The nuns making a house where a demon boy could survive makes no sense. The dad raising a kid he knows 1) isn't his and 2) is a hellspawn makes no sense.
    They just wanted a surprise twist and didn't care how they got there. Thanks for shedding some light on some of this as the movie doesn't even attempt to explain anything.

    Do tell me at what point was Eli evil? Because i can't see for the life of me which part wasn't completely justified for him to behave the way he did.
    Also, wouldn't the holy water normally trigger his allergy-like reactions instead of subduing them?

    • @vianpik
      @vianpik Год назад

      He was inherently evil, he didn't turn evil. He was going to do something evil in the future and they were trying to prevent it by purifying his soul and setting it free (or something like that). Yeah, he was right to be angry because he was lied to and was going to be killed, and for someone like him (child of Satan) torturing, setting on fire, and exploding people isn't an irrational reaction because, again, he is inherently evil.

    • @vianpik
      @vianpik Год назад

      If you don't understand, you're probably not religious, which is fine, but it would just explain why you don't understand why they did what they did to Eli. I do think that they all went about it the wrong way though, there were better (but still not right) ways. Starting with being honest.
