      The people negatively responding to my post who also cannot distinguish between general and specific is not a coincidence for they are idiots. Read my OP. Did you see a single word about water? No, because it is a general statement that anyone who isn't interested in facts, figures, and statistics (especially the first one) is not a reliable source of information. Case closed. Move along.

    Water tip! Most you-brew places, especially wine places, usually have a reverse osmosis water filteration system. The one I go to its only $3 to fill those big water cooler jugs. Normally u pay $10+ for a jug of spring water/distilled water at the grocery store. Go find a local you-brew place and start fillin up your stuff there.

    Tap water is safe, bottled water is pretty much tap water filtered through a carbon filter. Safe the $ and just get a Brita filter and filter your tap water. Trust me, I'm a civil engineer, infrastructure is my shit.

      @HangTheBankers1 10 лет назад +11

      "Tap water is safe"
      a) no it's not
      b) fluoride is not removed by a Brita filter.
      c) can you please tell me as a 'civil engineer' what effects sodium fluoride has on the body? Particularly the glands.

If you refuse to drink tap water because of perceived pollutants I hope you breath from a tank of compressed oxygen because what can be dumped into the atmosphere is FAR FAR worse than what can legally be put in drinking water supplies.

    If you think you can tell the difference in taste between bottled water and tap water you're very likely wrong, it's in your head. In blind taste tests people almost always fail to tell the difference between tap water and bottled water. If you've convinced yourself otherwise and you're happy, that's great, you just need to accept you're letting your outward biases and perceptions get in the way of the truth.

    I think it's crazy how in some countries you have to "invest" in water, I live in Sweden and perfect fresh tap water costs like 20 cents per Liter.

    • @MrMartinSchou
      @MrMartinSchou 10 лет назад +24

      > I live in Sweden and perfect fresh tap water costs like 20 cents per Liter.
      No, it doesn't. You buy water by the cubic meter, and you don't pay $200 per cubic meter. How do I know? Well, the average Swede uses about 45 cubic meters of water every year. That'd be $9,000 a year per person, or about the same as a 50 m^2 apartment in a suburb of Stockholm.
      You pay just under $2 for a cubic meter of tap water in Sweden. That's about 100 times cheaper than your claim.
      If you think you pay $0.20/litre of water, either your pipes are broken OR somebody is ripping you off big time.

      We are first world BECAUSE we care about EVERYTHING! We strive for utopia. We mess up along the way but that is our goal. So yes, first world problem.. but if we did not strive for these things then we would not be first world.

    • @Alistair
      @Alistair 10 лет назад +19

      a lot of people in the "first world" are less healthy than people in more basic conditions. Plastics leaching into water is just one of the many ways we get bullshit causing problems with our health

    • @Alistair
      @Alistair 10 лет назад +3

      ***** Unwanted chemical additives in water are just as shitty as unwanted additives in our food. Certain plastics mimic hormones in our bodies, and that's not a good thing. Some plastics have already been banned for use in certain products exactly because of that. We're still learning about exactly how our health is being affected by all the weird stuff that we've invented in the last couple hundred years. If you already eat well and do exercise, then plastics leaching into your water (and as Elliot says, you can really taste that it's doing so) is a valid health concern.

    Tap "water" which is really a drink, like a soda. It is a product crated by a company and designed to have the tastes, colors, smells, and textures that please the customers. True water is just water, it is not a engineered corporate product like a soda. What's coming out of your tap is a drink, not water.

      No joke. Check out the water quality summery that your water company puts out. In it is all of the many things they put into the water, and some companies explain why each chemical is in there. Basically to create an appealing product that consumers consume and are willing to pay for.

    I didn’t know how much truth this held back in the day. I come and rewatch it now after experiencing it myself through food. I started to eat very cleanly so I can lose weight and become healthier; lots of vegetables, healthy fats, no processed food. After a while and some results, I said fuck it and ate McDonald’s; and let me tell you! Within 20 minutes of finishing my meal, I was grabbing the Gravol becauseI felt sick to my stomach and wanted to throw up. Never again, or rarely will I eat fast food again; I don’t wanna feel like that. I hear some people say something along the lines of “you’re never too good for McDonald’s! So stop fussing and grab a burger”, I used to be like that, but now I wanna grab those people and tell them “Its not about being too good or better than someone who eats it, I don’t wanna feel shitty again”. That experience was very eye opening.

    Great Video. Same applies to lifting. Everyone wants to know what's the best workout split. Science says this Broscience says that. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!!! if you can lift full body 3 times a week and recover and continue to get stronger than do it! if you lift one muscle a week and it takes you 7 days to recover each body part and it gets you stronger than DO IT!! Stop looking for answers for things from other people, Start listening to your body and what it needs to grow and be healthy.

    hmmm Elliot man I'm sorry to say this cuz I think most of your videos are pretty smart and your approach to training is great in my opinion but you're wrong on this one. No there isn't a 6th sense to know when you're being "poisoned" or stuff. The nocebo effect is a real thing that can cause various psychosomatic effects that you will actually feel in your body and may even truely disturb your health... but that isn't a matter of actually sensing that something's wrong. Many times people say they feel stuff like that and there just isn't anything going on.
    Truth is that tap water actually is way safer and better for your health than the water that most humans have been drinking in past history. Can it have downsides? maybe but nothing such that it has kept life expectancy to rise and reach unprecedented levels in world's history. All these internet claims and conspiracies about what's in the tap water are garbage. There's only one reason why people get sick from drinking tap water is when for any reason some uncleaned water ends up in the pipes and people end up drinking water that did not go through the cleaning process. When that happens, very often, old or weaker people die from it...
    that's the reality that we'd have to deal with if we didn't use the products that we use to clean our water. All in all, naturally clean water is a scarce thing...

    • @meuberepic
      @meuberepic 10 лет назад +2

      thats part of the placebo effect. you think its poisoning you so you go in with that preconceived notion that its bad. then everything bad or any ill feeling you chalk up to the water or you manifest your own false ailments. its also reminiscent of a conformation bias. bottled water is way overpriced and a waste of money. also its not actually held to a super high standard, for example here in toronto the tap water is actually held to a higher standard of purity than bottled water.

    • @furiousmat
      @furiousmat 10 лет назад +1

      Cheeba McNudelz well unless you're having an allergic reaction there's no telling. It's just you thinking you're being poisoned. And it's just one out of many placebo/nocebo effect encountered by those who try to skip on science.
      I can go to the nearest "natural" products store and find countless people who for a reason or another feel like having a salt lamp around will help remove stress or that their electronic electricity counter is giving them migraines.
      There's an astonishing amount of people who have blurry symptoms for virtually an infinity of factors who actually have 0 influence on their body. It's just them causing it.
      And as I said. To say that tap water is poisonous is a stretch. Tap water is in itself responsible for a huge part of human's life expectancy and there is very few places in the world, even if they were completely unspoiled by men, that you could drink water from that you wouldn't make you sick at some point.
      To pretend that your body is able to feel that tap water is poisonous would basically mean that your body feels stuff that it wasn't even intended to do by nature and bringing you to lift your nose on something that is far better for it than what you should be expecting to find in nature.

      bill bob well here in America people want to keep there jobs at the water treatment plant so........they lie about the levels of chemicals they put in our drinking water and people in my area start getting really sick. ALL FACTS NO PLACEBO. I'm in Iowa by the way the heart land where all the world's food is grown and raised well the process to grow grain and raise cattle pollutes the earth more then automobiles ALL FACTS. So what do they do move some people around the u.s.a to work at other treatment plants to do the same thing they were doing here......again ALL FACTS. So don't tell me or other people that tap water, that I can start on fire is safer then r-o also oh I've been to Toronto you can have drake back we kept the great one.

      ***** Water that you actually want to drink dose have taste, because you don't actually want to drink pure water. As you said water is readily contaminated. This is because water is a rather powerful solvent. Pure water can have a harsh quality when drinking it because it can and dose dissolve mucus membranes and other organics on contact. Water that is pleasant to drink is impure due to various contaminants that can add flavor but more importantly neutralize its natural tendancy to create a solution out of your body. The plastic taste is actually plastic. Some modern containers are designed to not transfer to water but again water being a potent solvent it can be difficult.
      The minerals either added or naturally present in some bottled water is there to both add flavor and reduce the harshness of water in its pure form.

It activates all of the white blood cells in your blood which in turn attack all of the bad shit in your blood like parasites, toxins and all the other crap. If your fairly healthy tho than you may not need one but it's still super cool to see how fast the results are.

    Reverse osmosis is how most bottled water companies make their water. Which is the exact method Elliott is promoting. As long as you don't reuse the plastic bottles and keep them in the sun you're fine.
    Tap water has minerals and yes, chemicals that are ridiculously below any toxic levels. There are no reliable studies that say the chemicals in tap water have ANY negative effects whatsoever at the doses received from drinking it (you will literally die of water poisoning before you get any toxic effects), and you will piss them out before they have any chance to build up in your body.
    The water corporations have a monetary incentive to disprove this and they STILL can't do it. So they just prefer fearmongering and scare tactics to convince people to spend more on their "pure" water (I wonder if that reverse osmosis machine has a big ole Nestle or Dasani logo on the side). I have been drinking exclusively tap water for literally my entire life (I prefer the taste) and I have had no ill effects whatsoever.
    Elliott preaches the truth a lot but he lost me on this one.
    Drink whatever the fuck tastes better and don't reuse plastic bottles. That's it.

    Dude...you live in a filthy urban area with tons of air pollutants and you're worried about contamination from bottled water?
    Do you use reverse osmosis to cook your meals also?So then...if you're avoiding all plastics,then I guess you don't drink milk,orange juice,grape juice,V8,prune juice or pineapple juice?
    Of course,you could seek out milk & orange juice in paper cartons,but you'd be limiting your options and who knows what substance those paper cartons are coated with.
    Ever consider drinking water from plant-based bottles?Green Planet Bottling makes bottles from 100% plant-based materials.
    I seriously doubt anyone is going to live to the ripe age of 150,by avoiding plastic bottles...but to each his/her own,I guess....but some of us have budgetary concerns and I'll be goddamned if I'm going to scrimp on my health food diet,so that I can put myself in a financial hole for 10 years...on a reverse osmosis gadget.

    As a New Years resolution, I made myself only drink water and completely stop eating fast food, any processed food, and only drinking water. I did it for about two months nonstop without a single cheat meal which is surprising because I went completely cold turkey. I was working a job over 50 hours a week and went out to eat for lunch every day, really rushed schedules, microwaved meals, you get the idea. I got laid off and had a lot more time home and decided to make the change in my diet since I had more time to cook. Completely changed everything. The first couple weeks SUCKED literally the first two weeks I would get random headaches and no matter how much water I drank, it was like I just needed a damn Coke. After the two week mark I just felt so much better. Mind felt a lot more clear. I've always considered myself pretty smart, but having some sort of fogginess when trying to read or study. That went away, it was crazy. After about two months, I had a normal meal, but decided I'd have a glass of sweet tea with it for once (I live in South Georgia). I was like, why not? I'm eating a good meal, it's just one glass. I spent the next hour on the couch with my stomach bulging so hard, it was like a rock. Weirdest feeling I've experienced, it was like a large gas bubble. The worst bloat I've ever felt. I was sluggish, I felt gross, I felt sick to my stomach. I thought maybe it was just a placebo effect of some sort. I went to town to be productive and run some errands about two weeks later (after getting completely back on track and mind you, I haven't cheated on diet the whole year). I stopped by to grab fast food on the way home since I had spent my whole day in town and knew I wouldn't feel like cooking. Again, same thing happened. I get home, sit on the couch, and just stare at the tv with my stomach bulging, I could literally feel my stomach reacting negatively. It's like a poison! We grow up surrounded by all this nasty food and become immune to it. It's like smoking cigarettes. It sucks at first then they get addicted and love it. All bad things for you health wise start off with your body completely rejecting it, but you continuously do it (why I don't know) until you like it. Cigs, alcohol you acquire a taste for, snacks being too sweet at first.. Go ask an elderly person who's pretty healthy to drink something as simple as a Gatorade. They'll say it's so sweet. It's all not good tasting or whatever at first. Maybe not every single negative thing, but you get the point. LONG STORY SHORT just treat your body well. Get past the first 2-3 weeks and you will be amazed. Honor your body, feed it the best nutrients you can, get past that hump, and it gets so much easier and your body will love you and make it actually harder to go back to your old ways. And if you do, it'll actually be weird at first. I promise if you go 2 months without any caffeine then drink a Coke, it won't be the "I needed that so bad" reaction you're expecting. It'll be "wow that's not even that great and it's giving me a headache" reaction!

    Six months ago, my doctor gave me the solution to my sleeping disorders. Slept two hours a night. 'Do some work-out, tire yourself out.' Everything went better in body, mind and soul since back then. But then, two months ago, it 's just like you say. I could no longer STAND junkfood, soda's, energy drinks, alcohol and many other different kinds of foods and drinks. My body protested and rejected it. I'm now trying to get coffee out of my system. On occasion i sleep bad, and quickly drink one cup (no sugar though) to get the day started. Keep up the work bro! Love your videos!

    The most important element after oxygen? Water by mass is 88% oxygen. Every heard of H2O. Yep. Two hydrogen atoms with an amu of 2. And one oxygen atoms with an amu of 16. Water is not even an element. It's a molecule.

    It's funny you should mention the taste of pure water. I'm from the North West of England and our water isn't fluoridated, it pretty much comes off the hills, is checked for bacteria etc and pumped into our homes from huge reservoirs. My wife is from central Canada, from the plains. Their water was pumped from the mountains, stored, fluoridated, treated and who knows what else
    She thinks our water tastes sweet, actually sweet tasting by comparison to the "hot dog" water she grew up with.

      @jubalinifull 9 лет назад +1

      Please show me a source suggest our water in the north west isn't flouridated because it fucking is and heres the truth all water tap and bottle has flouride and hidden chemicals such as chlorine in it to make us feel tired, its all done on purpose The ONLY way to get round it is to be like elliot and be proactive and get your water separated from the shit thats put in it

      Robert Leather I hate to break it down to you, even the hills/mountains aren't safe. Unless you live in a country so undeveloped there is no pollution(not that it matters because other countries are polluting, making rain water acidic), then all the water in the hills/mountains are slightly acidic, this water then dissolves compounds from rocks, therefore it's not pure water.

      ***** Wrong assumption - I'm European. Doesn't surprise me though, when people are so credulous to accept the claim that fluoride in the tap water is poisonous. Newsflash: our teeth need this element - it's not a poison, it's a micronutrient.

      Michael Riess newsflash: it may be good for our teeth but so bad for our body. Do your research. And what if you sip 4 liters a day? Woulndt you get in way to much?

    • @MikeEnRegalia
      @MikeEnRegalia 10 лет назад

      ***** Not necessarily - for example, toxic levels of fluoride affect bone formation, yet fluoride fortification is associated with less fractures. If you must drink a gallon of water a day, by all means calculate whether your dose would reach toxic levels - I highly doubt it. In any case, I'd recommend you google "hyponatremia".

    I know this video is old, but Elliot, right the fuck on, brother. I wish all my brothers applied contrast to everything in their lives. Learn to sense all that is bad for you. Not just water and not just food. Everything you need to know is locked up within your own mind. You have only to free it. All you need to free it is to actually really use it. Most never do. They simply do what they're told or what the people around them are doing. I'm here because I unlocked it through deep introspection and now I'm full of so much energy from the improvements I've made in my life and the weight that I've lost, I have to focus it or I'm going to bring my house down. I'm here because you tell me what I'm already thinking, but here, it's organized and delivered by a Man. Thanks Elliot. Not many guys that I would consider for a mentor, but you got it. You're the real deal. Body, Mind, and Spirit. Right now I've got the Mind and Spirit, but I've got some work to do on Body.

    Loved it. I always thought the exact same that water out of a glass did taste a whole lot better. I use the Brita filter, what do you think of those? I know you recommend the reverse-osmosis machine as it's important to get the best water possible as we are made of water, but until I can what do you think of the filters? I can tell a huge difference in the taste and it's all I will drink now for my water supply. I know the charcoal filter is pretty great, but how great...

    Regarding the first minute and a half of this video, you should really go back and relearn your high school chemistry. What problems do these machines have? I'm interested to know as from what I've read, they also remove good minerals but many machines have a 5-6 stage which add back in the required minerals

    The thing that sucks about reverse osmosis machines is they remove 85-98% of other healthy, helpful nutrients that are found in natural drinking water. That is why some bottled water companies who filter using reverse osmosis add "minerals" to their water.

    • @LulzRoyce
      @LulzRoyce 10 лет назад +22

      Natural water does not have any vitamin B,C or niacin or sodium in it. They add vitamins because it helps your body hydrate, not because some kind of "vitamins" that don't exist in water in the first place are lost in reverse osmosis. You have no clue what you are talking about, sit down kid.

    • @afg96
      @afg96 10 лет назад +11

      LulzRoyce Natural water obviously doesn't have vitamin B or other vitamins, but it does have sodium, calcium, and other minerals! I think you are confused with pure natural water coming from nature and distilled water. Water that doesn't have minerals in it, such as calcium or sodium will flush out everything from your body which is also not good. Bottle companies just take that concept way too far, and start adding vitamin that shouldn't be in the water such as Vitamin B etc... since they are found in protein and stuff, there is no place for them to have that. Natural Spring water or lake water has calcium and sodium. But if your osmosis machine takes away a lot of minerals (there is a difference between minerals and vitamins by the way) then you can add it yourself, extremely small amount that can, barely be measured. P.S never drink distilled water, it will flush all the nutrients out of your body, and will not be absorbed.

      Actually Benjamin is right. I do Drinking water Treatment for a living (State of Florida Class A), a true R.O process (don't believe those under the sink versions are real R.O....it takes an operating PSI of close to 200 to force the water through Acetate Membranes)....a true RO produces Just pure H2O, it is highly acidic at around a pH of 3..Minerals (Ca,Mg.) have to be added back to buffer the water back to a neutral pH of around 7.5

    • @danhle1032

      Darin Whitehead dr lawrence wilson believes that high pressure and plastic membrane damages the water and causes it to be too yin....I'm sure viktor schauberger (vortex water) would agree with most of it...see my comment for the direct quote

    • @TheDarinw40
      @TheDarinw40 10 лет назад

      I don't know about the H2O being too "yin" as such but the end result (if the system is working properly) is just hydrogen and oxygen at that point , flat and tasteless , this end result is blended with raw water that still contains minerals to produce a finished product that is lower in minerals and hardness and yet is still lower than their raw water source

    It depends on the country. Some countries fluoride on water, with the intention of stopping cavities on the teeth and people takes an issue on that because they fear its toxic. The amount of fluoride added is so low that is harmless, but like you say, the researches founded by bottle water companies are a business pushing people to drink bottled water, witch normally comes from same water sources than the tap water.
    As I started saying, it depends on the country. I'm originally from Spain, where the water comes with fluoride, and I had never experienced any type of health problems water related. 3 years ago I moved to Finland, where the tap water does not contain fluoride, and after 3 years of fluoride free water I feel no difference at all. I rarely drink bottled water, only when I have to because there is no other water source nearby.

    I've been drinking reverse osmosis water. He's right, if you're conditioned to it. You can taste it in plastic and impurities from the tap, when I use water fountains I drink sparingly. Just tastes wrong to me, metallic, chemicals, and whatever else. water should be sweet.
