Here is the lyrics I found with a little help :) I still miss some parts so feel free to tell me if you find out what they say and/or if something is wrong, I'm not a native speaker ! I put the time when I don't know in the lyrics Max : I hated her ! Ich : What ? Max : I never loved Rebecca. Ich : You didn't ? Max : Nor Rebecca loved me. She was vicious damnable rotten through and through. She was incapable of love But she was clever of course No one guessed meeting her 0:18 But she was not the kindest person in the world [Everybody was taking in] 0:26 Like I was They sat at her feet and worshipped her She was so lovely, so amusing She fooled me too No I will never forget her smile Her haunting taunting smile I may forget the things she said But I will never forget her smile I found out pretty soon (not sure) 0:59 You remember that time We drove in the car to the hills above Monte Carlo That's where she told me things I shall never repeat She made a bargain with me up there She would go on cheating but play the loving spouse She knew I will sacrificed pride, honor, personal feeling Rather than sacrifice Our little world Afterward we got married marriage, I wom't revealed the things she has told me then with that smile on her face. Refrain And she kept her part of the deal The beauty of Manderley that you see today The Manderley people talk about, paint and photograph It's all due to her To Rebecca But she began to grow careless Asked her lovers down here To spend the night at the cottage with them I warned her but she shrugged her shoulder and smiled I'll never forget her smile One of her lovers was her cousin A fellow called Jack Favell Ich : I know him. He came here the day you went to London Max : Why didn't you tell me ? Ich : I thought it would remind you of Rebecca. Max : Remind me ? Great god, as if I needed reminding. Well one day she went up to London and came back the same day I couldn't find her in the house I guessed she had gone off with Favell Down to the cove The thing just had to be settled I set off to the cottage To my surprise Rebecca was alone She was lying on the divan with an ash-tray full of cigarette stubs beside her She looked ill, strange But she smiled. I said : I've kept my part of our damnable bargain But you've cheated You think that you can treat my house like your sinkhole in London And she got up, stretched and standing right before me, she said What would you say if I had a child Who would know it wasn't yours ? It would be mine for sure and when you died Manderley would be his I will be a perfect mother Max, like I've been the perfect wife And none will ever guess and none will ever know No I'll never forget her smile Her haunting taunting smile That's when I lost my mind I pushed her back She stumbled and fell She must have hit her head or something For when I bent down to help her up She was dead ! But she still smile(d?) I carried her out to the boat I left her in the cabin And I took the boat out the night And sank it there they found her today She knew all the time She would win in the end No I will never forget her smile Her haunting taunting smile I may forget the things she said But I will never forget I'll never forget I'll never forget her smile Ich : why didn't you called the police ? It was an accident ! Max : But who would have believed me, I panicked ! Ich : Did anybody sees you that night ? Max : I don't know, I don't think so. The staff are gone to bed already.
Great job! It's awesome that you took all your time to write it all down =) Let me help you a bit with some parts: ... Max : Nor Rebecca loved me. She was vicious, damnable, rotten through and through. She was *incapable* of love. ... But she was clever of course [No more guess meeting her] (dunno either) But she was not the kindest person in the world Everybody was taking in Like I was *They sat at her feet* and worshipped her She was so lovely, so amusing She fooled me too ... I found her out pretty soon You remember that time We drove in the car to the hills above Monte Carlo That's where she told me things I shall never repeat She made a bargain with me up there: She *would* go on cheating but *play* the loving spouse She knew I would sacrifice pride, honor, personal feeling Rather than sacrifice our little world Afterward we got married I won't reveal the things she has told me then with that smile on her face. ... The Manderley people talk about, *paint* and *photograph* ... *I'll* never forget her smile ... Max : Remind me ? *Great* God, as if I needed reminding. ... The thing just *had* to be settled I set off to the cottage ... You think you can treat my house like your sinkhole in London! *And* she got up, stretched and standing right before *me*, she said: What would you say if I had a child? Who *would* know it wasn't yours? It *would* be mine for sure and when you *died*. Manderley would be his I will be a perfect mother Max, like I've been the perfect wife And none will ever guess and none will ever know *I'll* never forget her smile Her haunting, taunting smile That's when I lost my mind I pushed her back She *stumbled* and fell ... And I took the boat *out* the night And sank it *there* where they found her today She knew all the time She *would* win *in* the end *I'll* never forget her smile ... I hope that's all, I may have still missed a few things ^^
Count Monsparkle Thank you so much ! 🤗 I will make the changes you said 😊 I took some parts directly from the book, it's why it's not exactly the lyrics ! But I'm glad you took the time to correct me !
I totally agree. It's especially obnoxious because the movie had one reason for its change in plot: film restrictions/censorships. If a character in a movie committed a crime, the laws of the time said he or she had to go to jail/pay some other price for it, and the movie's creators decided it was better that Maxim didn't go to jail, for that would change the plot even more. The musical obviously doesn't have that restriction, so they've got no excuse!
No, currently there is no official translation. There is however a fan translation of the show written by me and a friend of mine. However, there will be an official translation come September when the show FINALLY premieres in London
This is a sensation. I'm finally hearing this man singing words I understand 😅😅😅 I'm still far from speaking German...
Literally started learning German because of "Elisabeth" and "Rebecca" but so nice to hear in english too😅

You remember that time
We drove in the car to the hills above Monte Carlo

She made a bargain with me up there
She would go on cheating but play the loving spouse
She knew I will sacrificed pride, honor, personal feeling

Pip small correction at 0:18 it’s “No one guessed meeting her” not “no more guess meeting her”
0:59 is I found *her* out pertty soon. i know im pretty late but i wanted to put it out there :)
If Ramin Karimloo ever plays Maxim I will faint! I'd love to hear him sing this!
Be great uf ramin karilmoo be cast as maxin in new west end musical rebecca .
This makes me sooooooooo happy. :) I hope Uwe plays Maxim on Broadway!
I love it! However, I think they ought to have kept the part about Maxim being the perfect fool father.
If I was a guy, I’d totally cover this song 👍🏻. It’s amazing
EDIT: Screw it, my soprano ass just covered this song 2 years later 😂
I totally agree. It's especially obnoxious because the movie had one reason for its change in plot: film restrictions/censorships. The musical obviously doesn't have that restriction, so they've got no excuse!
But I find it makes him more sympathetic if her death was an accident rather than he killed her
In the book, he doesn't go to jail either. The movie must be faithful to the book, not invent a new story. So, I'm fine with Maxim not going to jail.
I never expected this to have an English version (sung by Uwe no less!)
That said I prefer the German lyrics hahha
Thank you so much.
yes, indeed. Thank you :))
Cool!
actually the writers could not get the rights for the book so they got the movie right thats what happens unfortunatly
Where can I find lyrics for this? Please, if anyone has them, could he share with me? :)

Could somebody please tell me what Maxim says at 0:27? "They sat at her feet and...", right? I can't make it out myself, I'm no English :)
worshipped her
No, currently there is no official translation. There is however a fan translation of the show written by me and a friend of mine. However, there will be an official translation come September when the show FINALLY premieres in London
Today I learned: All my fav musical singers can't speak English for shit. Those accents...^^
xD sorry....
