    cracked catifold is common on the 01-05 dx/lx civics, the exhaust system is different between dx/lx and ex, and accounts for most of the power increase as the vtec is low rpm high swirl fuel economy style on the 1.7

But then the A/C system wasn't cooling, sure enough it was a little connector/coupler that had slipped out of the radiator cooling fan wiring harness. Honda's are nothing if not quirky lol

  • @aznnp77
    @aznnp77 3 года назад

    That's a cop out. ACs don't need to be charged. If they're low on refrigerant, it's because there's a leak. I got a leak once. I had a rock hit my condenser at highway speeds and I felt my AC go out shortly after (same car). AC condenser was only like $40 on ebay and I think it's been like 10 years or something I've had it. At the same time, you'd probably want to change the O-rings on the fittings. I actually paid the $4-5 for the Honda OEM o-rings cuz the crappy green ones at the auto parts store tore so easily. I thought I was gonna have to change my compressor recently because my AC would work like 50% of the time. But it turned out my condenser was just dirty or something. Cuz I haven't had a problem after I sprayed it off with a hose. Lastly, I've heard about AC compressor clutches going bad on this car after so many years. You don't actually have to replace the compressor. Apparently there's this metal plate on the clutch that gets worn down, and a lot of people just remove that plate or something and it works fine after. That way you don't need to spend $200 on a new compressor plus recharging. Yes, I'm talking about this specific car, not about cars in general. I know this car very well. Mine has 297k miles, so I've had most of the problems you're going to run into at this point. knock on wood***
    Oh yeah. There's a connector for the AC compressor that's like snapped onto the AC compressor fan. Mine would get loose all the time, so I taped it together, but it does get loose sometimes if you're working under the hood and accidentally hit it. I think eventually I just took the connector off altogether and just taped the wire where it needed to be. Edit: Oh it was a wire. Not the one I was talking about, but one of the wires. If you're flipping a car, and it needs to be recharged you've got the know how to fix it right. So don't do that. Just saying.

    It's more than likely cracked like everyone says. I had a 82 Celica beater I got super cheap that sounded about that bad. Turned out to have a loose and mostly stripped exhaust manifold bolt. I found something that worked and then it was quiet except for the bad muffler to go with it. A bolt I had in stock and a cheap turbo muffler and it was quiet again. I had already picked up a cheap good manifold for it so when I got tired of dealing with all the other issues a 300k body and drive train has the buyer got a lot of spare parts.
