caught this for the first time. that event looks so cool. those county gravel roads remind me of when i ride in Holmes County. Squid was SO awesome riding shotgun with Kat. And your group of friends look like they enjoy ruffing it. Love the bonfire at the farm. And yes, Chrissie Hynde from Akron and her brother Terry with 15-60-75 (the Numbers Band). Remember that scene well from the mid-to-late 70's.
I live in ann arbor. Huron river drive that you went down is by far the most popular cycling route here. If you sat out there on a 70 degree day you would see so many cyclist you would think an event was going on. The b2b trail is also a treasure but is discontinuous as you saw (they're working on it though!). Its almost shocking how rural it gets outside of ann arbor , neat to see it featured in a video, thanks!
Rock n Roll anecdotes: Since you mentioned Chrissy Hynde and with the reggae vibes at the moment, thought I might mention that I saw UB40 support The Pretenders back in 1979 in the UK. Amazing combo. Also a good friend from my rock 'n roll days, was sitting in a pub garden at the table when James Honeyman-Scott (RIP) wrote the lyrics to "Brass in Pocket". Nerdy but so freakin' cool!
@@TimFitzwater Don't let me bore you?! Great vlogs recently. I loved the cool tempered existential angst of cycle camping alone. I have it all the time!
Hey Tim… always enjoy your videos… thank you! My wife and I do “weekend” bike trips (usually averaging 120 miles), staying @ B&B’s (4 requirements I have; a bed w/AC, a shower, an adult beverage, and someone else cooking and doing the dishes 😅). I’m interested in learning how you video while biking… the equipment you use, etc. I’m not really into videoing, but interested in capturing our weekends together by video. Hoping something simple would do the trick! Thanks for any insight and/or guidance you can provide.
I use a GoPro with a Pro Standard Grill Mount. GoPro's are really one button to turn on and start recording. Simple as that. I would say you probably already own the thing you need to start though - your phone.
You were riding in my area again, very nice! Irish hills area is where you rode. You went swimming at Wampler's lake where my family cottage is. It's gravel haven up there. Great beer, beautiful back country. A summer to remember.
Dude! I wish I would have known. I go gravel crazy in that area regularly....it's my gravel heaven...i love metrics...Great Saline Lobster Gravel Century....I'm glad you 2 came here. I hippie you liked it
When you got in the water -- I felt that. As someone who takes 3 showers a day, being dirty is absolutely dreadful. We do it for adventures, but I don't enjoy it. Getting clean is glorious, especially in a lake or river or waterfall.
@@TimFitzwater 25 year in Japan. It’s just the culture & it rubbed off on me. But I’m not going to sacrifice adventure just because I can’t wash. But the outside cleans - memorable & there is like nothing like it 👍
Dang that looked great. Great job to Frank & Co. putting the gathering on. If meet me in Johnstown and Higher Ground are officially in the past some of us back east are going to be looking for replacements like this.
Beautiful ride route! Most definitely got to swim! I'm in UP Michigan. Haven't explored down there and it definitely looks good fun. I'll have to see if the route is under the event to looking see
Guilty as charged 😂 I definitely didn’t known Chrissy Hinde was from Akron. I really enjoyed our bike chat tho, Steve Winwood 4ever!!! See you at Hodag.
More than likely, and a slightly easy fix if not, but not sure if it's the fish eye lens or what but Arron's fork looks like it's been in a front end collision. It doesn't take to hard of a hit to bend those puppies if u hit it just right. Id know. So, maybe lens, maybe PTSD, but just a heads up. Amazing vids as always. Thanks a bunch for bring the golden content Tim and good luck out there
We have an Amtrak spur route here, the Heartland Flyer, which runs to Ft. Worth, TX. We’ve ridden it multiple times. They’re inconsistent about allowing bikes on this route.
Sublime, serene, bucolic, lush and verdant. Just perfect! There is something that's tripping me out though. Perhaps it's a trick of the camera, but Erin's bike always looks too small for her.
Yeah - I still would. I did know if I felt really rough on the second day I could stop somewhere and have Erin scoop me. But overall I still enjoyed the ride and was pretty proud of the achievement.
Yup - about Akron when she came back after forming the Pretenders in London. My studio is in the bordering city she grew up in that she name checks in the song - Cuyahoga Falls.
I love your rides, put simply, they make me happy, thank you for sharing.
Cheers!

I usually still catch the Numbers Band every year at the Art Museum.
Definitely going to do this one again next year!

100% Crazy how quick it gets so rural. Love it!

This video convinced me to take a bike ride - much shorter than 90+ miles.
😁

We loved it for sure. Erin was like "damn you Michigan and your wonderful outdoor activities".🤣
Once again a brilliant ride - you've inspired me. Think I'll ride to the coast for an ice-cream by the sea tomorrow 🍦
That was so enjoyable. You narration is never intrusive and your photography is pretty dam good for an amateur.😂🍺🔆🏖️
happy man !!!!!!
I totally want to check this out next year. I grew up in Michigan, but don’t know that area well. Looks awesome, thanks for sharing, Tim!
You should! We have loved the trips we’ve taken there the last couple years. And this is great because it is all planned.

I'm kinda a dirtball and usually don't care - this time I was so gross though! Might have been the best dip of my life.

For sure! I think Meet Me in Johnstown is but it sounded like Higher Ground still may happen? We shall see.
Super cool, I would've loved to have done this. I'm 45 minutes southeast of AA, great video.
It was so rad! Keep it in mind for next year.
@@TimFitzwater I absolutely will!

Its cool that Southern Michigan is this great. I already love Upper Michigan and the UP.

I could have out even more of that in this vid but I’m a recovering musichoalic so it wouldn’t be good for me. 😂
Higher Love baby!

(her fork is totally fine)
Thanks! Cheers!
(her fork is not bent)
Looks like some nice riding and good times. Thanks for sharing
Cheers!
Super cool. I grew up about 20 miles West of there, best time of year to be up there. Zingerman's is always a win. Enjoyed the video.
Thanks!
Yes - except for the skeeters!
Tim...thanks for sharing !
Excellent as always Tim -- thanks for the share! =]

I've heard that on a number of lines - seems like it would make it hard to plan....
a gravel ride centered around garage sales could be a thing. I'd do it.
Looked so cool
It was! 😎
Sublime, serene, bucolic, lush and verdant. Just perfect! There is something that's tripping me out though. Perhaps it's a trick of the camera, but Erin's bike always looks too small for her.

Nah - her fit is dialed.
@@TimFitzwater I figured she was dialed in...right on!
Catching up on the video’s after my own holiday ….
Is that a Nemo Aurora in the end of the video? Have my eye on one..😅
I don't know - it isn't mine. I used my car camping tent at the farm but I use a Nemo 2P Hornet on the road.
Hey Tim if you had to do it all over again would you still do the 200 plus miles up to MI? Or possibly only part of that? Thnx.
Yeah - I still would. I did know if I felt really rough on the second day I could stop somewhere and have Erin scoop me. But overall I still enjoyed the ride and was pretty proud of the achievement.
I forgot about about Chrissy Hines....I guess that's where that song came from, "I went back to Ohio, but my city was gone"
Yup - about Akron when she came back after forming the Pretenders in London.
My studio is in the bordering city she grew up in that she name checks in the song - Cuyahoga Falls.
Every long bike ride, my wife tells me of her woahs of not being with the cats.
please add a link to the event website. unfortunately, it does not come up in google searches. great video!
Thanks!
There isn’t one. It was all IG and bikereg. Follow LugsNotDrugs on Instagram- that is the host.
Tim how do I keep an eye open for this even for next year? Who runs it?
It’s @lugsnotdrugs on IG.
Is there a link for the meet me in Manchester ride? I'd be interested next year... i can't seem to find a website.
Nah - it’s a small thing. Follow Lugs Not Drugs on IG. He will post the bikereg link in the month or two leading up.
