The man has his issues, but that is a great scene from a great movie. I can completely relate to his feelings of despair, and how he finds a way to find some measure of happiness again. Like he says, nobody really knows the answers to the big questions of our existence. Best to enjoy your life as much as you can and realize there are aspects of it all that are beyond our comprehension. Who knows what forces brought this all into existence? No need for complete and total despair.
Astute philosophy of life by Woody Allen - 2:45 "I'm thinking to myself jeez, I should stop ruining my life searching for answers I'm never gonna get and just enjoy it while it lasts. Yeah I know. maybe it is a very slim reed to hang your whole life on - but that's the best we have. And then I started to sit back and I actually began to enjoy myself."
I watch this every Thanksgiving I guess because the movie starts and ends with a Thanksgiving dinner but also because it does a really good job of reminding me what I’m thankful for
"So I sat in this theater and watched a screen full of people who are already gone from this earth. I watched as they sang and danced like lunatics. They spoke to me. They told me to enjoy every second of this short life."
I love Woody Allen movies, they are steeped in grubby 70's and 80's NYC enclave ambience, Manhattan apartments with oversized windows and doors, Manhattan Bridge, the harbor etc ..
And all those apartments nobody can afford today unless they’re millionaires or better. Even then you had to be wealthy unless you lived in the same place for 30 years or more.
Piece of trivia: in 1985 or 1986, when this film was shot, the Upper West Side movie theater (Metro) in which Woody Allen is walking was showing (probably among others) "Kings of the Road" (Im Lauf der Zeit) by Wenders (1976) (see the poster on the right side at 1:41). Certainly not the kind of "fun" that Duck Soup can provide😉
This was the last hit Woody Allen would ever have. After this, it was a bunch of mediocre soap operas nobody cared about. And when people found out what he really was in the early 90’s, he was gone!
A suicidal neurotic depressive who finds perspective and clarity through Duck Soup might be the most I've ever related to a fictional character.

Thanks
The rifle going off when he throws it on it the couch. Classic.

Did you watch it this year?
@@diahaykal2390 I sure did!
Great call. I am now going to add this to my Thanksgiving movie list. There aren’t enough good movies that can pass as Thanksgiving movies.
Woody Allen, I can't express how much I love you.

I was gonna say Zeppo was still alive but this was shot in 1985 and he died in 1979 so yeah. They were all dead by then.
I think this scene sealed the deal on Woody Allen winning his second Oscar for writing.
What a great writer Woody Allen is
Allen has said that he has never contemplated suicide. He is so skillful he can play a suicidal neurotic
He said once that he is a lousy actor but playing neurotic characters is the only thing he can actually achieve.
The same thing happened to me, but it was The Purple Rose of Cairo that made me want to live.
Amazing. Same happened to me. Purple Rose of Cairo. Mind is blown.
@@Miserableplace mine was this movie while in a hospital bed
You'll Live - Maybe You Were Right

I loved this ending. The Marx Brothers puts it all in perspective!

I wish RUclips had a “love” button.
Bullets Over Broadway and Midnight in Paris are great.

The fact he owns a rifle makes it extra hilarious
the best advice for life, enjoy it while it lasts.
A Master of cinema Woody Allen , love his work ...
Genius. Woody is the best!
Genius! This movie is amazing
never liked woody until this total masterpiece
maybe you were right
Even our suicidal thoughts are funny
I had a moment like this with 127 Hours.
I needed a moment to gather my thoughts....put the world back into rational perspective......Enter The Marx brothers 😁😁😁
Genius.
How sad for narcissists

Beautiful New York ...yes, there is a God ...and I'm not Him 😎

What he really was?
After" Hanna and your sisters" he made "crimes and misdemeanors", and this is my favorite woody allen movie.
Last hit? What about Husbands and Wives and Bullets Over Broadway?
@@jonnybirchyboy1560 I guess I never saw them. Movies like Radio Days, September, Crimes and Misdemeanors, etc., just came and went.
@@jondstewart “I guess I never saw them” equates to Woody Allen’s movies not being successful? That’s some sound logic right there.
we are the result of a creative act! trust in the primal creator and all transcends into the imaginary! gnosis.
Either this is a weird English translation or you're speaking nonsense.
