With four scratches, it became a different race. Batten Down had the lead all to himself and won easily. He's well bred. Definitely a horse to watch. My four horses made the superfecta.
@@mysteryhandicapper I agree with you the scratches changed the field. I wish those horses did not scratch since it would've helped the price on Batten Down. I'll take the 3-1, he won so nicely. Congrats on hitting the Superfecta. Yes, he is a horse that will have a say down the road.
Tricky spot for this fav. Gould's Gold, Who's the King, Batten Down are the only semblance of pace. Everyone else is a closer/deep closer. Batten Down ran 10 Fs a full second faster than Mystik Dan a week earlier on the same track. Another dog walk on the front end could get this Tapit to the wire first at a square price. Betting the #9 horse WP.
it is hard to figure out what junior will do with batten down...he allowed 5 horses to get in front of him around the first turn at keeneland on april 20, then brought him up to an outside pressing position in 3rd mid backstretch and turning for home was tied for the the lead and had no excuse not to win but was just outrun by the 2 horses on either side of him ... in the last race he got lucky on the inside when the 3 outside horses collided out of the gate putting the 2nd favorite in next to last place 6 wide after just 1 furlong ... batten down was given 3 straight 8's on the thoroughgraph chart for his last 3 races which doesn't really give me confidence that he will move forward vs better competition from an outside post... I think it will take a 2 or 3 on the thoroughraph to win this race ...hard to figure

Catching Freedom for sure. Hope he goes on into Haskell or Travers. i like Batten Down too, and he was my longshot in a big race... I cant recall if it was Derby or Preakness, but he didn't make the entry.
@@andrewcarpenter687 Might not be allowed for stakes races. I went to drf.com entries and notices none of the horses competing in stakes races were on lasix.
Nice call morpheous, this colt is a confirmed front runner going into the 2nd half, clearly he doesn't want to be rated...noticed they cleaned out the show pool with CF...the trend for this crop is everyone is going to beat each other...Haskell and Travers should offer value as Bob baffert, Mr. Baphomet himself will be a factor 2nd half...I expect the pace to be quicker with all these confirmed front runners 1st half, tc.
This is the first race Batten Down will not be on Lasix. He will also be carrying 8 more pounds than last race. Deposition was on lasix last race and won and now comes off it.
Catching Freedom is the cream of this crop...a lot of meh horses...8/9/2...let's hope for a clean trip and we see him again against SL , Fierceness and Muth in the Grade 1 races to come.
Nice wire to wire …looked at the far turn 8 was ready to make the move but didn’t have that extra gear the last few furlongs. Batten down ran a sharp race .

I agree, not much pace in the race. Batten Down is well bred and could be trouble on the front end. I'm using him. Good luck!

Batten Down had everything his way up front. That race looked over from the start.
Couldn't ask for a better set-up. Lone speed in the race (especially with all the scratches). He's well bred. A horse to watch.

9/5 on #8 where can i bet him? more like odds-on on race day this race not paying much if #8 wins so 8/4-9 ex.better to key him in multi-bets.
