I agree. He has the fastest turn of foot of all the front runners. That is how I found him for the Florida derby at 7/1. Look at the fractions on dirt not all weather and you will see
Sidelined for 6 Months after Traveling to Saudi Arabia and running a very tough race and Traveling back to the states...New Connections...New Jockey...Carrying Top weight...First time running in Cali...Tough trip in race...Still gutted out the Win under all these Circumstances...Still ran a 101 Beyer for the Win...Should run Much better in the Pacific Classic....He has crossed the wire 1st in 10 of 11 Starts while traveling all over the Country and out of the Country at all Different Tracks and Distances and Conditions....Some Horses that people felt were "Legit" have Lost Races and Maximum Security came right back to Crush those Horses who beat these so called "Legit" Horses....Some people need to give this Horse the Proper Respect he Deserves...
Must admit I was rooting for Midcourt because I'm a John Shirreffs fan and admire the way he takes care of and trains horses. Also his low key and humble persona. Plus, Midcourt can be a beast when he wants to be and loves Del Mar. That being said Max ran an admirable race. Didn't give up and fought back to get his nose on the wire in time. My take on the closeness of the victory: being off 5 months, new training regimen, and new jockey. Horses should not be held responsible for the misdeeds of their former, or current, trainers. Would love to see Max prove all the naysayers wrong in the coming months.
This was hard fought win for Max, Strange strategy by jock, he had to ride the hair off Max to the wire to get the win by a dirty nose. I hope Baffert takes good care of Max after this start, I'm concerned how hard he had to use himself.
Next time keep Max to the front, don't make him a stalker keep Max pedel to the medel he has the endurance to route any race. He is not a stalker , he is a speed horse
@John Coppers No proof whatsoever. I commented to a guy earlier this year, Does anybody know absolutely, positively 100% why Max is so game? He replied, comparing Max to one of those human athletes found to be using performance enhancer....these people never quit.
Terrible ride on ms. He shoulda stayed inside. Ms has the class and speed to go with #6. He would have made him quit. Instead he drops back and loses 3 or 4 lengths and loses position. Unnecessarily tries to rally after giving the horse a easy lead. Was lucky to win.
I think Victor pushed the button a little early on Midcourt, had he had a bit more confidence in his charge and waited a little longer Max would not have been able to get by....just my observation. Not sure if Max is ready for horses like Tom's D Eta, Tiz the Law, Improbable, Vekoma...
@John Coppers thanks you couldn't have said it any better. Delmar is a grave yard for champions. For max to come to Delmar and carry so much weight and still managed to win tells you that he is in great shape. Tiz as never face an opponent in the class of max and in as easily beat imp. And many of the other class horses already. The only race max lost was off a layoff.

I consider this a double win for him.... Weight and track conditions. Look at those fractions.... Ridiculous for horses at this level. I will be looking at what the track conditions for this race looked like compared to the rest of his races. Slow for sure. Yes the track ran slow that day... Besides the usual all weather bias.
I’ll be the first to admit that I picked against Max yesterday based on the principle that he’d definitely be running drug free. Baffert is under the microscope right now. I’ve always liked the horse and still believe politics were involved with his Derby Dq. Without PEDs Max wasn’t able to draw off like he usually does but then again I question the jocks tactics. Saez wont ride Max again-he’s not part of Bafferts stable of riders and Baffert isn’t going to call on a jock that isn’t part of the local jockey colony. This poor ride will give Baffert the excuse to put Mike Smith aboard next time out. That’s probably who he wanted in the first place but didn’t want to make it obvious that Saez is off permanently. A win is a win but that final 5/16 was run in 33 seconds flat. The 6 f time was 1:11.2. So that 33 sec final 5/16ths was very pedestrian. Translation for those that don’t get what I’m saying:: it was slow.
John Coppers Beyer speed figs, Brisnet,, etc don’t give a damn about weight. It’s based on final time and track bias. Doesnt matter if it’s a Grade 1 or 10 k claimer. A 1:44 and change 9 f race isn’t that fast no matter how many excuses you give for a Southern California race. Saratoga, Belmont ok but Del Mar, I don’t think so. With this win Max won’t be getting any weight breaks so undoubtedly he’ll be competing against company carrying less. I know what you’re saying- I learned about weight from Ainsles book decades ago. I no longer handicap nor construct bets but Yes in a route if I noted a horse dropping 5 pounds or more it was definitely a play for me or a bug boy hopping on and getting 10 pounds or more. These steeds tended to run at big odds in the money. Like wise horses picking up weight in a route I viewed with more scrutiny and if they picked up more than 5 pounds I usually dropped them from the win slot. I’m glad he won. Nothing against the horse. I just don’t care for the present circumstances. Baffert is no different than Servís. The difference is Servís is having to answer for the allegations levied against him whereas Baffert keeps giving ridiculous excuse after ridiculous excuse And keeps getting away with it. I used to be a huge Baffert fan from the time Cavonnier almost won the Derby. But he’s full of himself now and he’s become a parody.

Super Max is back. 11 start. 10 wins, including Derby and one second. Today's biggest horse of 4 years. In fact the biggest racehorse in activity. I want to see what the prophets of the apocalypse are going to say now. Where are the drugs?
It's not just the extra weight. Max ran against the weather (he was raised in the east and had never run in the west) against the doubts of a new coach; against skeptics' suspicions; against the fact that he hadn’t run for five months, while his competitors were running frequently and lastly and most importantly, against a new jockey, who didn’t know the horse and who missed the strategy and almost lost everything. And yet he won. This horse reminds me a lot of the great ALYDAR. He has a heart and never gives up.
@John Coppers not sure I agree with your numbers, but your analysis is correct. On a dirt track rain or shine he would have gone off at 1/9 and shown why those odds were posted that way.
Looks like hes nowhere near as good without the drugs, so obvious that Authentic is also off whatever he was on earlier in the season after Baffert came under the spotlight.

I absolutely love this horse.His sheer desire to win regardless of the obstacles he faces. He is a champion and continues to show heart in every race.

But he has already won Improbable. But he will not race against TIZ. But it is the best horse of 4 years in activity.

Mike probably will ride Midnight Bissou in the breeders cup classic, Sáez should be back on Max in that race.
Mike Smith also cannot ride in del Mar after riding at Monmouth Park last week.
