- Mimi the black tufted marmoset was kept as an illegal pet and then abandoned at a vet clinic when she grew up and was no longer a sweet and easy to care for baby. She was rescued and sent to Animal Wonders where she will live out her adult life with respect and plenty of enrichment to keep her active mind occupied. We hope you enjoy seeing the expansion we were able to give her thanks to the Hittman Family Foundation who donated to help us improve the lives of the animals!

Monkeys are so messy and spastic. I don't understand why anyone would think it is a good idea to have one as a pet.
I love how Mimi's new enclosure turned out! It looks like so much fun to live in. Do you ever find bits of old food you have hidden away the day before, that she didn't find? Or is she pretty smart, and always gets everything?
She gets every bit! As long as she can reach it, that is. Sometimes we'll give her an enrichment item that's too difficult for her to figure out. We'll leave it in there for the day to give her plenty of time to check it out, but if she hasn't then there will be some treats leftover.

I would love to see how you hide the food for Mimi. It seems like you would have to have some routine, or she would just watch you do it and follow you around getting the food.

The place looks amazing! Great job ❤ But there is something that bothers me, maybe you can put my mind at ease. Is it ok for her to live alone? I know that monkeys are group animals. Is it true for Mimi or is she fine by her own? How does she cope?

Out of curiosity, when do you hide her daily forage? I imagine she's not in the enclosure when you do so.

I had been wondering why the walls of her space were reflective like glass, now I know why! I never would've thought of plexiglass on the walls for cleaning, but it makes so much sense!
When in doubt, the answer probably has something to do with pee or poop 😆

She was a previous pet and once she grew up and was no longer an easy baby she didn't live up to the her previous owner's expectations and ended up being discarded. She was introduced to other monkeys at some point before coming to us, but it was unsuccessful and after consulting with multiple primate specialists, we determined it would be too much of a risk to take in another rescue who likely wouldn't be compatible. Then we'd end up with 2 marmosets living alone making the situation even worse. So we work hard to give Mimi a good life, and try to make up for the misfortunes that happened in her past that caused the situation she's in now.

A veritable monkey mansion!
I saw a video for Mimi in 2017, and now this video is in 2022
From what I see that this is an indoor enclosure, I want to ask if keeping a marmoset indoors all the time is not affecting them negatively in any way...thanks :)
Primates, including humans, do best when they have exposure to natural sunlight. If that's not possible, then having access to full spectrum lighting is a great substitute! Since our rescue center is not located in Mimi's natural environment, it's dangerous for her to have an outdoor space due to the extreme temperature fluctuations that happen seasonally, but also on the daily. So, we provide Mimi access to full spectrum lighting 🌞

@@SomeoneBeginingWithI We set up a temporary space in the rabbit room since it was the best suited for her. The rabbits moved into Sydney the bettong's space, and Sydney moved into the macaw room. Everyone was safe and super curious about the 'new to them' spaces they got to explore for the week!

But for you getting everything provided it's a blessing for Mimi the marmoset but you have not actually tried to proper train her to pee on one certain spots I see many people that have marmosets and yeah they're different than how you do that's nice
It’s got no other monkey to interact with. Just it’s abuser
You know this is a rescue right? This monkey came from someone trying to keep them but turns out the the monkey wasn't what they expected so they abandoned it.... If you look at the other comments you can see that Mimi the monkey didn't work out with other monkey they were introduced too.
This is a use. No monkey should be a pet.
