John - Take a good look at the Mortal Kombat 2 Operators Manual. That manual shows exactly how the harnesses are to be wired up and will also give you the wire colors and pinouts for everything. That will save you a ton of time on wiring up the rest of the cab. Trust me. i would never have been able to figure out my MK2 wiring without that manual.
Great Video John! I love your format of sharing the whole process of working on arcade cabinets (Even the stressful parts!). You're a very entertaining guy!
Felt your frustration there John. Those fixtures that were never meant to be removed and rescrewed in by hand.... making secure confident connections flicking the switch and for some reason doesnt turn on... Working on machines in the arcade tight space and shit everywhere...... keep plugging away. Youll get it. Only small advice id give is whenever im doing a resto like this ive removed all cable ties and followed it around with ease following the wiring schematic. Then re cable tieing when things are in place. Good to see you back on youtube
First Safeway had the pasta ham salad I like (they are always out), I discovered a new music artist that I just love (Grimes), and now John made a video??? This day is awesome.
love this arcade restore videos... its a lot of inspiration for my own diy arcade machine... :D But the way you organise your screws stresses me out a lot :D Looking forward to the next video :D
I'm looking forward to seeing this wiring nightmare all come together, I would never have imagined it would be so chaotic! Also, thanks for reading my email, that's my first time having viewer mail read on RUclips :).
I'm very excited to see the Bronco restore as you see solid state restores all the time but electro-mechanical restores I've rarely seen. Also when you were messing with the harness and the video wires all I could think of was 'where's the blue wire? This wire is brown, why is it brown?' You just can't escape it can you John.
Shrink Tubing Tip: Turn your lighter ( i use/suggest a BBQ lighter with long neck) all the way up BUT only let the shrink come in contact with the blue part of the flame near the tip of lighter. The blue flame is cooler but still hot enough to get the job done without burning the shrink.
I'd highly recommend looking at the Mortal Kombat 2 Game Manual/Operator's Manual. You can find it online just by searching in-case you don't have it. Good luck, mate :)
Hey John! Great stuff as always..you coming back down for SFGE this year? I had a chance to hang out with ya at last years with NintendoArcade and will be there kicking some pinball ass again, hope to see ya!
Hey John! You might want to check out the "FlipOut" rechargeable screwdriver. I love mine. I got the deluxe one from Lowe's with the tool belt pocket. It works really well in tight spaces. It even has a built-in redirect-able white LED. The battery is built-in, but it lasts quite a while. My pointer comes a bit too late for this go around, but perhaps it can be a fitting replacement for the old mini driver you had in future projects, so maybe such tasks won't suck quite as much. Later John.
Hey, have you ever tried putting your tubing on _after_ soldering the wires together with a plug like this? If not, you need to do so now because it's pretty dang fun! ;-D
Suddenly the MK project became a "can we fix a dead game" video. I guess you could treat it the same. What would you do if you got it from Craigslist like that? It probably is something simple like a fuse as you mentioned. Can't wait to see how the saga unfolds. Thanks for the video!
For the monitor power connection, wouldn't it have been cleaner to just crimp new pins on the purple/red wires, pop out the old purple/white wires with a pin extractor tool, and place the purple/red wires into the original connector housing? Would have saved soldering/heat shrink. I think you had enough length to make it work.
Love your vids man but..... I have to say I've noticed a difference in your restores since your busy with the hanger. Not to be bad but I get the kinda feeling your hearts not in it and your doing recent vids to keep the channel flowing.
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech yay thank you thank you john I miss you like crazy and your videos put a smile on my face and hope you read my viewer mail
Hmm. "I really wish I could bring that game to the garage and just finish it outside." Well, ya can, can't ya? Just get a friend like Adam to help, as usual.
i am tired of telling you how to do the wiring. i keep saying where to look to make this easy but you just ignore it. fine figure it out yourself instead of going to links and stuff.
ok good. you found the manual. i was about to link one that really is useful because goes into everything and has pictures and stuff too. archive.org/details/ArcadeGameManualMortalkombat2

yep! best way to splice in wire if you have to is solder and heat shrink! I use flux on the wire to help with the soldering.

John, did you ever try that Gun Dealer board that was sent to you at the outset of these videos?
^^ There you have your design for the next t-shirts.
Hey, have you ever tried putting your tubing on _after_ soldering the wires together with a plug like this? If not, you need to do so now because it's pretty dang fun! ;-D
Scorpion approves!!!

Atari's Ted Dabney just died, the value of those early Atari machines will rise no doubt!
Are you gonna be going to CAX this year?
Ahh, When it wouldn't turn on... That sucks John. Good lick diagnosing it. See you when it turns on. To be cont. Episode 29

Aww, haha! What's that cute little skateboard there for?
Love your channel bro! When are you going to get a candy cab?! Would make great content if you got into hardware like naomi and atomiswave.
how is your back John? i hope you feel better!
Did you wire anything into the power supply? All I saw was the wiring to the isolation transformer.

Dude look at those harnesses, I'd be burnt out too, he also has a family too which is enough already to tire him out
Plus the podcast plus the extra podcasts on the app every week. Plus the twitch streaming and music production. John is a machine! :)
Wow, this is gonna be the longest restore series you've ever made (at least in number of episodes; I haven't added up all the timings), huh, John?
What about the rear cabinet switch? It might not be working because you haven't fitted it yet :)
I don't think this game has an interlock...

Slowing down John? Try Reddcoin and accept tips using it.
Dude,,,,,,,did you shit yourself at 5:22?
you have the same 25-33 haters in all the videos.
I can't argue with this. Maybe they are secretly fans. :)
Bit of a rare Monday night video to end Veterans Day 2018.
Hmm. "I really wish I could bring that game to the garage and just finish it outside."
Well, ya can, can't ya? Just get a friend like Adam to help, as usual.

i am tired of telling you how to do the wiring. i keep saying where to look to make this easy but you just ignore it. fine figure it out yourself instead of going to links and stuff.
It's all in the manual. It's laid out pretty great. I have been reviewing it and will be using it going forward.
