  • In this episode of Zeepkist I built a track where you have to guide a train around the map! In this track the player flies around controlling which switches are set to steer a train through shortcuts to the station!

      You could make a map where you *have* to fly through the holes in a train

      Is it possible to put checkpoints on logic triggers? You can do so much if that's possible. Hidden checkpoints or two different tracks where the checkpoints move between the tracks. A cheese track with a hidden trigger inside an intangible object. The trigger moves the last checkpoint next to the finish so that you don't need to an detour.

      I have 3 ideas.
      1st is a mountain bike track. Narrow paths "carved" from a hillside where you occasionally get scarily close to trees. It wouldn't have to be very long
      2nd is a hamster wheel... that you have to get off or out of. Time your escape from inside or on top of the hamster wheel. Maybe make it look like the wheel is moving. I'm not sure how to get the wheel thing to work.
      3rd would be something like a wingsuit course. Flying dangerously close to the ground and obstacles while flying down a mountainside

      A Wild West train robbery map where you have to derail the train in time, transport an object to a target location and then have to escape in a hail of bullets (death ball avalance?) - and that's all in a sprint race.
      In theory you could also make a true multi-lap map with the logic now

      I just thought of how to make Kenosha map happen.. A series of logic gates that act as checkpoints.. you have to fly or drive through them in order, to trigger the last one which would toggle a rail switch at the bottom of the hill. And that rail switch makes it so that the train doesn't derail and die but safely makes it to the station. And only when it does, it triggers a gate which allows you to pass through the finish.

    If the Zeepkist community gets mad at maps like these just ignore them. These are favorite kind of tracks (Puzzle/Logic). Not everyone may like them, but there'll definitely be niche interest. Kind of like Kacky, I know it gained popularity, but kacky isn't for everyone. If your audience enjoys these videos who cares if the community doesn't, they don't need to join the lobby.

      @@AlechiaTheWitch personally I like the glider, but I can see why it's not popular, zeepkist was just a racing game, now it's also a flying game. It's not the same as Mario kart where you only get it briefly.. People are making full flying maps, which isn't everyone's thing. But again you don't need to play it if you dislike it.

      I feel like I would be annoyed if I was racing in this track. Mostly because I wouldn't have enough time to study it and find the proper route.

      @@AlechiaTheWitch Give it a few weeks. Right now everyone is playing around with the new parts and mechanics, which results in a lot of jank until people learn to use the mechanics in a way that fits and until there's niches that establish themselves.

    In order to make the times differ, you could just place enough checkpoints around the outside that you'd be unable to get them all while routing the train through the fastest route. That way it's more about an optimal route and how fast you can rush to the finish than to time your arrival there correctly.
    Also would allow you to place a checkpoint at the airstrip to show people what it does.
    [edit:] Also, you could label your triggers to aid with routing (doesn't even need to be with text, could just be landmarks, like those 2 towers).

    Honestly, Yannic really should put this track (or one with the same concept) in adventure mode, this looks so fun and creative.

      Definitely one with the same but refined concept. It's a great idea, but the adventure maps are usually simpler to avoid confusing players. Gotta remember, the main playerbase of the game is kids (as you can usually tell from reading the in-game chat).

      @@LordDragox412 True, I think the map could also be made a bit more interesting than just the trees (some of the adventure levels look really cool while maintaining simplicity). The concept 100% definitely should be featured though.

      What I'm more interested in is, since the game now has logic gates, you can theoretically make a computer in the game now. I'm almost tempted to buy the game just so I can see that concept through. I'm also partially interested in creating a really complicated Zeepkist track that's only checkpoints. Perhaps, like, 1000 checkpoints if the game can handle it? This stems from the idea of the check[point]mate track, which was entirely checkpoints. I feel like there's something more that could be done with that concept.

    I feel like people call Kan's tracks pain is mostly due to lack of direction, but Kan likes the process of people figuring out how to finish the map.
    It's just a preference thing mostly. but i think people just feel directionless and don't know what to do when there are lots of boxes and triggers around.

    I absolutely LOVE everything about this!!! The track is long and, as you say, not that much you can do to improve your time, but this is still unironically one of favourite tracks. Logic + trains make dopamine go whoosh I guess.
    Seeing something like this in adventure mode would be amazing.
    (Though the thought of this, but with needing to manage 2 or 3 trains on different tracks at once - kinda terrifying)

    This track really benefitted from the prolonged intro explanation - but I was SO relieved, when the video went into a public lobby session!

      @@sigmond_meliamne No, they need to be 18 apart. The numbers are the runway heading divided by ten. For obvious reasons, using the runway from the other end changes that heading by 180 degrees.

    Another similar idea is you could do a sort of train dispatcher track where you have a few trains and you have to make sure they don't collide.

    Yannic should change it to a more realistic situation where the fewer cars on the train, the faster the locomotive can pull them. Then you could make a track where you purposely are trying to time it just right to knock cars off. But maybe only to a point, because if the train goes too fast, you can't win either.

      Each car has its own engine, but if you trust the physics to play nice you could reduce those but increase the power of the locomotive. Then removing cars would reduce load on the locomotive and let it pull faster.

    I can just see a track where you trigger a logic gate right at the start that triggers a long countdown timer that links to a wall concealing one of the finishes... If you are fast enough, the wall will be gone and you can finish with a faster time, but miss the window where the gate is open and you have to go through a finish that is farther away and you get a slower time... Or you have multiple routes through an area, and the shorter one only opens if you hit the right logic gate and make it within a certain time. The possibilities!

    To keep the spirit of doing a race, you could add race boosters for taking slower train tracks, that will make you choose if you need more speed to move around or make the train reach the station faster

    Now, a track where you have to derail the trains. Set multiple trains (not as many as your Frogger test) running. They're ahead of you and will trigger landslides onto the track unless you hit the trigger to derail them first. It's kind of a speed check to make sure you hit their derail trigger before they can hit the landslide trigger. If you're nice, you could put alternate path detours around the landslide area so that slow people (or people that miss the triggers) go even slower, but still finish.

    This is what I think of when I imagine soapbox racing: flying a paraglider while engineering a train.
    See if you can get feets to just plain add a Lua interpreter block.

    This track was hard, but it was a great concept and very well done! It's nice now that I understand how it all works. Definitely reminded me of Pilotwings64. I can't wait to see what kAN comes up with next!

    Train logic could be good for shortcut shenanigans, too. E.g. one path is shorter, but gets blocked by the train, so you have to wait for it to pass. The other path is longer, but you switch the train to an alternate track, so you can pass easily.
    Also, the "cutting up the train" bit; can you also reconnect train cars? If so, there might be some interesting things to be done different cars, such as switching between the solid cars and the ones you can jump through.

    for doing the idea but driving, what you could probably do is make ramps and such that require stunts such as riding up a narrow path to launch off to hit a trigger, or to wall ride up a tube to get the trigger.
    Something more based around the kart itself could be interesting as you could make ramps that launch you THROUGH the train's gaps

    Perhaps you add objectives for the players alongside managing the train.
    You can add speed check gates. For example sending the train through a tunnel via a switch, then the player has to go through their own separate tunnel within a certain timeframe to hit the next train switch otherwise the train loses time on a longer track. Basically add more track sections where there is standard racing while the train is doing it's own thing instead of only babysitting the train.

    Logic gates open up so much cheese possibilities. What it there was an Or gate hidden somewhere that also opened up the station allowing you to fly in, long before the train

      Not entirely... as a new player I'd like a lil more wiggle room on the Author medals... some of the levels are just impoossssible. 😢 to get author on.

      @@The_Totes_Adorbs If any new player could get the author medals, what would be the point? They're there to test your skill, not be handed out to just anyone. Over time, as you get better at the game's mechanics you should return to the tracks and then you'll earn the medals no problem :P

      @@The_Totes_Adorbs You don't need to be God tier, and nobody's angry. Except you, mister mad 'cause bad. Author medals are meant to be a challenge, and the cosmetics are there to reward your efforts. If they could be all earned by a "new player" then what would be the point? Also, author medals are purely optional. You don't need them to progress, and you don't need the cosmetics for anything other than bragging rights. If you can't get an author medal on a track after trying for a long time, just move on and return when your skills improve. The author times aren't unreasonable - you are. Just play the game and have fun, and return to earning author medals when you're up for a challenge and know what you're doing, you'll have a much easier time.

    kAN, as an x air traffic controller, I must say, your runway numbers are wrong lol. It's like a bar across a compass. If one side is 22, the other side is +180° so 202 would be the opposite end of the runway. Amazing track tho. Jesus lol...

      Do you really know runway numbers? They are in multiples of 10 degrees. Number 22 is at a heading of 220°, so the opposite would be at 220-180=40°, with number 04.

    great update so many possibility. is it possible to make a maze with changing walls? by players hitting a switch or a train loop hitting switches changing walls at random.
    - is it possible to make a random track selector using the switches (e.g. 3 in 1)
    - A track where you could make a build your own route using switches
    - you could make a track where you have to race something before it hits a switch. for more of a challenge have multiple finishes.
    - is it possible that by using a large bowl of ice/frictionless and a sliding object could a really random switch be made?
    - a collection race

    kAN should make an entire set of levels for adventure mode :D
    with riddles etc..
    Maybe a race against a train while the player is on a road and you can go off "racing" line to send the train on little detours. Goal is to get to the end before the train arrives. Choosing when to go off line to send the train on a detour will make the lap times a bit more interesting

    Next up: a full railway setup where you can ride on the trains (they go really fast) and also redirect them. With logic so that trains will wait if there's another train in front of them. So you need to get on the fastest train to cover long straight bits, but then hop off briefly to change the switches to redirect a different train so it doesn't get in the way of yours somewhere else on the network.

    Super cool idea, i think to improve there should maybe be less time between the puzzles because you end up having to circle for a while just waiting for the train

    kAN, I can't believe you didn't ask him for logic gates that can control other variables.
    First thought, was increase/decrease the train speed. But if the engine supports it, object scaling via gates or all kinds of insanity would be cool.

    From watching aviation videos I know that the runway numbers have meaning.
    They are the first 2 digits of the heading on a 360 degree circle.
    The opposite end or runway 22 should be labled (220-180=40) 04.

    I think the runway needs a paraglider block just in case you lose your glider near it (welp Yannic did do it), also you could make a bit more track under the map where you catch the metro.
    though for the adventure map it should be a bit shorter because long tracks are pain imo. (though I'm an ultra short player so that may not count, a 40s track is already a long track for me.)

    an idea to make the times more variable, things easier to follow for other people, and add back in the race element. make it so your basically racing the train to use it to trigger "short cuts" or more like the optimal path for you not the train. make the train relatively long so it gives an ok window to catch and always running ahead a little at each point it converges with the track so if your on time you get the next "shot cut" but if your slow you miss it and have to take the "normal path". if you can desighn it to be harder and harder to catch the train at each convergance point to the point wher you have to be making the cuts to catch it. not sure how the logic actully works in the game but maybe even make it so if you manage to run ahead in the back half you can get an even better time, idk if its possible to have boosters that are active untill the train gets there and triggers a switch to shut them off type deal but something in that spirit just for thought. the way forza horizon does the special event race against the train would be a good lose inspiration for how the race aspect should feel and then you use that wrinkly noggin you got to incorporate the logic for the short cut. and im sure i dont have to explain it to you but im not talking about changing the speed of the train just manipulate the player side to slow them down or speed them up in relation I.E. longer sections vs shorter ones more booster vs less etc

    I think a track where railroad crossings double as speed/time checks would be cool. Get there too late or too soon? Train or Crossing gates stop you.

    It would be nice if the triggers were fake checkpoints that had some kind of tether to the track, to clue people in to what the boxes are.
    As is, the random boxes will probably confuse people who don't know what logic looks like, especially the AND gates

    This map is great! but... I'm sad you missed one small detail... If your runway has 22 going one way, it should have 4 going the other way. Runway numbers correspond to their compass bearing (divided by 10, so 220° becomes 22), and the other direction will naturally have the opposite bearing, so they're always 18 apart

    Make some of the switches that you don't flip them go for shorter path, tricking the people who switch everything
    What about the map where you are trying to outrun the train that is behind you? If you go trough cross road, sensors will switch trail to always follow player until the end, no matter the route he takes

    Can you have two trains at the same time? Perhaps having to synch up the trains to trigger logic gates and the trickier ones are where you and both trains have to be at certain points to have other things trigger. If you are able to turn gates on and off from the game world perhaps have two AND gates trigger a hidden logic gate that does some thing like revealing a hidden track for a train...
