      Thanks very much! I wasn't sure exactly what the differences were either, and a search on RUclips didn't show a detailed unboxing, so I decided to make a detailed video for those who are interested. So that makes it even nicer that you found it informative! My friend Rob certainly knows his stuff! Cheers! : )

    Quality unboxing Mark, my first Tamiya last year was a TT-02R and the suspension setup isn't as good as this one, I got mine from Hong Kong when all the UK distributors had run out inc shipping (didn't get stung on customs either lol) was about £100. Mine came with aluminium motor mount, prop shaft, high speed gear set etc but defo some really decent value upgrades in this one, they should do a ultimate TT-02X or similar that has the upgrades from the R & S kits, that would be awesome! :-)

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  5 лет назад +1

      Excellent comment, Ben! I certainly agree about that X version, now that would be worth getting. You got a good deal from Hong Kong, cheaper than my Type-S! I did look at the R version, I can get it from the UK for about £180 - but decided I preferred the XV01 type suspension on the S. I have ordered the alloy propshaft, maybe the motor mount later, but I'm on a tight budget so need to be penny-pinching! Thanks again, have a great evening! : )

    Good choice choosing the TT-02 Type S !
    I'm not sure this car is suitable for rally, but we'll see :)
    I have 3 of this type myself and i think it is far superior to the standard TT-02
    The recommended hop up other than the aluminium parts are getting universals for the front as those pesky dogbones keep popping out when full turn

Yeah, I'm very happy with what comes in the box, as you say, I think it is intended for flat-track use, but I will have a go at increasing the ground clearance and softening the suspension. "S" series come with the TRF suspension arms that give a better handling. (regular TT02 suspension arms are mucher shorter) the options required: front universal drive shaft (the dog bone comes with the kit are easily detached when running in deep cornering) and central metal drive shaft

    • @MarkBryanRC

    Hi Mark! Great with a new Mark Bryan project! Looks like a very good option, yes! So, will the longer a-arms limit your choice to wide bodies? Very good commentary and enjoyed the vid as always and looking forward following the project.

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  5 лет назад +2

      Many thanks Mikael. Yes, it was about time I got a new project - something to work on until Spring comes! The kit does include some very good hop-ups, well worth the extra money over the standard TT02. The longer a-arms don't actually make the car wider than standard (190mm), the XV01 set up is much narrower and compact in the wheel carriers and wheel hexes, all adding up to less unsprung weight, which is also a good performance advantage. Thanks for the watch and support, you know it is really appreciated my friend. :-)

    • @NordicRC

    Fantastic video Mark! Great job! Hahahah ... i call them wishbones ... :D So it looks like it's a tt-02 with cva shocks, bearings, beefer/reinforced and upgraded suspension where some are from the XV-01. I'm not sure anymore but when you use the longer rod ends on the shocks you get longer shocks than 55mm :) Keep up the great work! 👍

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  5 лет назад +1

      Cheers Charlie! Hehe - glad it's not just me and Rob that call them wishbones! Yeah, I chose this one because it comes with the hop-ups I would have bought anyway, but is much more cost effective. Hi Mark, great video as usual. I used your other video series to build my xv-01 and now I am looking to buy a 2nd Tamiya to play with my son. By watching this video it looks like the TT-02 Type S could be a good xv-01 alternative for both Rally and Drift. Correct ? However, how do you compare it to the TT-02 D drift spec ? From what I see the TT-02D is cheaper and comes with oil shocks and ball bearings as well. Thanks !

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  3 года назад +3

      Hi - yes you are correct, the Type-S makes an ideal rally chassis, I have a video series where I show the few mods needed. The Drift Spec is also a great kit, but as far as value for money, you get way more hop-up parts in the Type-S. The main advantage in the Type-S is the suspension system, which is far superior with the longer arms and the adjustable top arms and steering arms. Plus the C-hub steering is an advantage. IMHO the stock suspension and steering is what restricts the stock and type-D chassis. That said, the type-D is much better VFM kit than the stock one. All the best from Mark... :)

    Love you builds few years after I'm catching up with TAMIYA´s. I'm building right now this same chassis but putting a Lancia Delta Tamiya body and rims. What I did find is that A arms on the type S are not quite compatible with the Lancia Rims as the rim inner spokes are locked with the A arm make it imposible to spin. I'm thinking on trimming those inner spokes. Keep those builds coming. Thanks again for your awesome and detailed videos!

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  3 года назад +1

      Hi Max - thank you for the great comment. Good choice to fit the Lancia body and wheels. In fact, I had exactly the same issue with the white wheels I chose for my Type-S, those ribs on the inside fouled the bottom arms. I had to trim them off (well, trim a few mm off!) with a Dremel. No problems since then, and the wheels haven't broken. I think it will be fine to do the same to your wheels. Have fun - cheers! :)

      Hello! Yes, well they are a lot stronger, I think there is some sort of carbon fibre reinforcement used in the Type-S suspension plastics, they are very tough and I've had no breakages after many hard runs and crashes! :)

    Nice video! What is the difference between this and the TT-02R.....they are the same price although no motor in the R but there seems more alloy parts?..... Which is the better kit, maybe the best value one to get?

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  4 года назад +2

      Hi Paul. The main difference is the suspension and steering, the R has the same setup as the stock TT02 (although made of better materials). The S has a completely different setup that uses much longer A-arms on stainless pivots, plus a better designed C-hub steering mechanism. These parts are carbon reinforced. I chose the S because it was possible to modify the suspension for much better ground clearance. It is probably the best handling Tamiya that I have. That said, I haven't tried the type-R. Even with stock ground clearance setup, I would still choose the S for these reasons. Regards from Mark... :)

    Hi Mark. How's it going with you? Feels like we haven't had a nerdy chat for a while. Anyway this is a jolly interesting vid and has got me thinking as I'm planning at least one TT-02 project. I might have talked about this before but the Datsun 240Z I had was a TT-02 drift spec that I adapted. I got the drift spec because it came with oil shocks and bearings but this S version comes with a load more bits. Like you point out the extra bits are quite costly so looks like it's worth it. I'll be interested to see how this looks as it goes together. I'm not in too much of a hurry to order the TT-02 as I currently have the Lunchbox, Konghead, Holiday Buggy and M06 Alfa Sprint all to build! I'm part way through the Lunchbox build. I'm videoing the build to put on RUclips. It's mainly going to be a video about the mods but I am photographing all the steps so I can put them in between the explanation bits. Been having a few PC probs that Ric has been helping with. It seems to be behaving at the mo so going to look at editing some of the stuff I've already videoed. Got some nice beer from the microbrewery to start the weekend off. You up to much this weekend?

Hope the PC holds out for ya! My daughter is back from Uni for the weekend, so lots of catch-up - already started on the Bombay Sapphire!!! And WHOOPPIE! HALF TERM! @@MarkBryanRC Ooh yeah half term. I'll be at work but enjoying the empty roads in the mornings. The first leg of the drive I do for work takes 40 mins on a school holiday and anything between an hour and an hour 20 on a school day! I'm interested in the suspension on this TT-02S. With my one I managed to get more rear suspension travel by trimming a bit of plastic that is hard to describe but it was limiting the travel of the arms. I'm not sure if the S has the same setup so I'll watch your build with interest. Went RC'ing with Ric yesterday. Broke my Aqroshot which seems to be a fairly standard event. Front hub this time. I think that Tamiya's with the Blitzer tyres seem to break quite easily (at least when I'm driving them!) Need to remember not to bash that one too much. Mark, the TT-02S is quite a nice bit of Kit!!! Definitely a BARGAIN!!!! 😎👍👍
    I noticed the differences straightaway. The Suspension is FAR improved. I hope you can still get enough travel with the modified setup for Rallying.
    I may have told you, but due to budget (none), my TT-02 was built over 7 months, Piecemeal. Though because of that, I ended up building a bit better! The Chassis is Blue Fiber Reinforced, most of the Suspension is FRP as well. Shocks are Boom Racing... among other things.
    BUT, this Suspension is just Better! I hope it's able to have extra extension... But it looks MUCH stiffer than box Stock! I look forward to seeing how you like it.

      But I don't want to know...... And I STILL don't have a Body yet!
      My Automotive background has a hard time figuring out Barrel Springs. They've NEVER been on a real Car (not EVEN French!!!!), yet they have the properties of a stiff AND soft Spring. They work great on my CC-01!
      I sincerely hope that you are doing OK! Last kit for awhile?? 😱

      Yeah, all is OK here mate, but it will be a while before I can afford another Tamiya, hopefully I can scrape some cash together by doing some odd-jobs in my spare time! Not complaining, I chose to do a low-paid job, but a rewarding one!
