In this concluding episode of the gyroscope build, I show you how to finish off the remaining parts, and then put it all together for a run. One of the interesting aspects about this gyroscope design, is the way it uses a simple cone bearing to support the rotation of the flywheel. This may come as a surprise to many, given that we live in a world dominated by the standard roller bearing. Хобби
Not only are you a very good craftsman you are a very good speaker. Thank you.
Clickspring is by far the best fabrication channel on RUclips. Just pure an unadulterated machining porn.
+psychofmse you should check out Project Binky if you want some fabrication porn. Not to downplay Clickspring, though
+LtJerryRigg Oh I love project binky too, they're both amazing. We live in such an amazing time where the best content isn't on TV, its freely available online.
The 'Tubes are certainly a modern wonder!
+psychofmse A bit different, but with the same amazing level of craftmanship - check mtmwood :)
+psychofmse Now that you put it that way... i kinda feel dick less, cause i dont have lathe or proper mill... :(
It's extremely satisfying, all these years later, to say I've finally made one of these on my own machine tools in my own workshop. This is where it all started for me, the first machining video that taught me it could be done at home. Some 3-4 years later and it's finally a reality. Thanks Chris.
Then broke it immediately trying to balance it on something stupid...
Chris, not only are all of the pieces you make pure unadulterated art, but the videos themselves are masterpieces in their own right. I saw you on AvE and spent the following few days watching everything you have made. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent with us, and if you're ever in Sydney mate i'll buy you a beer.
ive seen this video like 3 years ago and when i got my lathe about 1.5 years ago, i almost instantly made one of those bearing tools because it stuck in my mind. this thing is SO useful, sometimes you got stock that is uneven so dialing it in with an indicator gets frustrating, but with the bearing, its just plain simple to get it centered enough to begin working. its amazing how good of a tool you can make yourself with litterally pennys worth of stuff.
old bearings do the trick just fine, clean all the grease out, clean them, use some heavy oil or grease to keep it somewhat lubricated and off you go, no need for a new bearing if you are on a saving adventure! :)
Very beautiful. Physics at its best
+Christopher Hilder Cheers Chris, thanks for watching :)
+Clickspring Hey Chris! Fantastic video as always. Just a quick question. You said the cone inside the bearings has an angle of 120°, but you used something that looked like a spotting drill to machine it. All the spotting drills I have seen so far have an angle of 90°.
+3MrP3 My spotting drills are all 120°, but if you have 90° spot drills, then I would use those; it's closer to the ideal cup angle of 80°. Cheers, Chris.
Clickspring Thanks for the answer, I didn't know there were spotting drills with an angle other than 90°
+Clickspring Why are 80° ideal?
I've never wanted a metal lathe as badly as now. Watching this was meditative. Beautiful video and craftsmanship!
holy cow, I've always wanted a nice gyroscope like this. I've got ADD and anxiety, and these kinds of toys have always helped calm me down.
I don't even have a metal lathe and I cant stop watching. Great production and camera work as well as the narration. Excellent in every way. Been watching since Jimmy DiResta told us about your channel. Keep em coming.
+clyde8drive Will do, thanks very much for taking the time to watch :)
Wow. Amazing project: turning, machining, filming, lighting, narration...everything spot on. One of the best RUclips videos I have ever seen.
Very, very nice build!!! And THE BEST VIDEO ON YOU TUBE!!! Thank you Chris from Clickspring.
+Hermann Straub Cheers Hermann!
+Hermann Straub All of these videos are top notch, love em!
There is saying: there are three things you can watch forever - how fire burns, how water flows and how another man works. Now we can add fourth one - how gyroscope turns!
Mister you are the lord of the brass !!! too much ... sorry for my translation but i'm a french peaple living in Normandy ...Long life for you .. and thanks for the share ...
wow, it's amazing! Clickspring's vídeos are the best on YT: editing, narration, HD quality, macro shots etc! And finally: so relaxing !
+Clickspring I don't often say this but this video is one of my favorite videos ever. I felt the need to let you know that this was amazing! I have been waiting 2 weeks for this video and was not let down! I love your channel and all the videos. You inspire me! Now I want a lathe!
Hello Chris, I'm sure you hear this all the time but man you've got the skills, my self I'm a R/C Helicopter fanatic and I don't mean the toy kind either, and I can just imagine you and that equipment and a few sheets of some quality carbon fiber and some high grade aluminum stock and I bet you could produce a fine R/C Helicopter that would rival Miniature Aircraft and Align, leading R/C Helicopter Manufactures, that's a compliment Chris trust me it is, The skill and care and precision that you put into your projects is evident in your finished product and thru out the build as well, love the videos keep up the good work...
You're photography is beautiful! Great clarity on the project too but it's the photography that really strikes me, wow!
When I was a kid I played with one of those for endless hours, just fascinating, and still is. Beautiful in brass.
Beautiful! Loved the bit on the finger with the long extension rod. Really want a metal lathe.
The physics of this are just beautiful!
Chis, great job. You make it look so easy, a sign of a great craftsman or teacher.
Excellent, Chris! Your videos are so fun to watch
I get the impression from your blog that you are a very new amateur machinist. I feel like I was misled. :-) You sir have incredible skills and I have learned more about machine work than in all of the books I have read. I want to head out to my shop and just teach myself to make a centered hole and to face off parts. Thank you sir for the clear explanations and guidance.
One of my favorite toys when I was a kid.Really enjoyed the making of this.
Thank you.
Wow, that was amazing. The process as well as the finished product.
This was a really great project! ....... and yet the photography and editing was even better. Great Job!
I'm a highschool teacher in milling and your vids are awesome for educational goals!
awesome. beautiful to watch metal go from rough to finished, but adding the gyro in action at the end was really awesome. great work.
Loving this, Moore and Wright, being English that was the brand we tried to buy when we could afford it!
Fantastic! Beautifully made, filmed and narrated.
Chris, beautiful work mate! Watching your craftsmanship is truly a joy as well as inspiring.
Peace!
As usual, beautiful and precise!
I've been waiting so long and it's finally here
Best ever Chris. Thanks for your time spent on this.
I COULD WATCH THESE OVER AND OVER AND.........THANK U; YOUR TRULY; ARTHUR
this is the most beautiful piece of work I have seen.
Absolutely gorgeous! Chris, you are one hell of a craftsman, nice work sir
Brilliant video and brilliant work.
it is one of my "one day I will have a go at that " projects to make a gyroscope.
Hi Clickspring im also from australia machining is my one of this things i really really admire but i have setup my garage/workshop for woodworking which i admire as well, you are by far the best person/youtuber. its a dream for me if somehow i could buy that piece its amazing!! your work is out of this world and OCD soother!
I made one . Kids love it . Thanks for the drawings.
This is just outstanding. Been watching the clock making series and now this. Your video work coupled with your skills is really impressive, thanks for making the effort. It is very much appreciated.
Regards, Martin.
Excellent work on the gyroscope and a very well made video.
... I remember them in the late 1970s, it was the thing to have at the time.!!!👍😊
If I could choose a skill I would love to have it would definitely be this... Must be so relaxing and going to work must be exciting everyday when you can create beautiful works of art like that.
hang on a minute is your name really danny devito? you're an actor and can afford to learn!! lol
looks amazing chris!
wondefull piece of turning and the physics are amazing!
good job!
+Clickspring As always, it's amazing to watch you work and beautiful final product!
Wow, that was a really wonderful production and great machining for us newbies out here. I love the voice-over as you proceed through the project as it highlights the important parts and gets the video done in good time. Gordon, Australia
You have some mad skill and great tips!! Thanks for sharing and take care
Good stuff! Now this is machining. The closest I get to doing this at work is when I do a set up on a CNC mill. I'm glad to see this on RUclips because out in the real world, these skills are vanishing quickly. Good job Chris, beautiful parts!
every time i see videos like this i just get lost, I wish i could do things like this the precision is very attractive to me and the ability to create...
lovely Chris, thanks for sharing!
I'm telling you Clickspring is PURE PORN!
+Joel Crawford Nothing to add to that comment!
+Joel Crawford yep, AND EVEN BETTER than porn with raccoons!
+YN3 Now.. don't go overboard here. There's a place and a time for porn with raccoons.
+Joel Crawford Yeah, for sure. It's unbelievable. You're right especially if you are mechanically oriented and like this kind of content, he is the best, period. It's a tinkerer's pornography.
lol
I'm amazed!! So cool!! Thank you for all your hard work!!!!
Beautiful work!
Wow, my Tedco gyroscope just got put in it's place. Cheers, that is a thing of beauty.
once again, your work and video made my day. thanks!
+grimspyre Great to hear that mate, thanks for watching :)
beeindruckend!sehr gut gelungenes Projekt!bitte mehr davon!

Great job and wonderful video editing!
Awsome bit of work! very nice!!
Simplicity & function at its best.
Excelent! This is wonderful... Congratulations, you work very well in the lathe
Inspirational. Excellent work.
The lighting and camera work is great on this video! Awesome job on the project :)
Awesome!
I completely enjoyed the video thanks!
This is super relaxing
These videos are so professional!!
Didn't expect that ending. Was so ready for "Thenks for wotchin'. I'll see ya leidah."
when micro photography meets this guy awesome things happen !!!!
This might be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen being made. I wish I could buy one but I'm sure it would cost a fortune.
Watch his video making the card press.
Brilliant engineering.Think I will add a milling machine etc to my workshop. Many thanks.
Click, outstanding! As always. Thanks for sharing!
Su Amigo Siempre
just watching your videos makes me want to buy a lathe. you do amazing work
That was a great project. That has the gyroscopes you buy at the toy store beat six ways from Sunday. I am going to keep that in mind for a slack time project. Thanks for sharing.
Class, pure class. Dude, you rock! Thanks!!
Fabulous, simply fabulous!!!
Thats a great little project :D Love it.
Excellent explanation! Congratulations!! Now I will try to replicate on my Sherline!
All thy works very magnificence , especially accuracy in work and out of luck
Amazing build! I'd like to have one of those. It's very cool!
He cris, this may sound really weird, and it is not an offense in any way (I love your video's) but: If I have problems getting to sleep I always turn on one of your videos, because the machining is soooo satisfying to watch, and the way you talk and edit your videos is just so relaxing. Thanks!
+mldewilde Ha ha! Wait until I make the pendulum on the clock build... then I'll really put you to sleep! Cheers mate :)
+mldewilde Ya I just nodded off watching this a little too. If you haven't then look around RUclips for ASMR. An entire genre exists for relaxation/sleep. :-D
Yeah, it's 2 am here. Just discovered this channel. Absolutely addicting.
Really nice series. thanks
Watching your videos makes me want a metal lathe so badly :D
absolutly briliant !
beautiful, as always!
Beautiful work Chris.....watching you make stuff like this is both relaxing and fascinating, the faff you had with the polishing lap to get rid of the scratches for your clock screws.....I never heard of tin laps or the powder/paste polishes you use.....plus this is physics, my favourite subject at school ( a long time ago)
Superb stuff mate, but I'll be honest and as much as I'd love to do the same.....I wouldn't put the same amount of time into it, just my nature I guess. So I reckon I'll not get a lathe or a hobby shop like yours, it jjust wouldn't get a lot of use from my side of things..........I still love your work and can't wait for your next project.....great stuff
Awesome project Chris, looks like magic in the end ;) Really beatiful. Now i'll have to get a lathe...
thats the most beautiful thing I ever seen
Well done, sir!
hi chris,
another great video.
thank you, sir
jeff
Wow! I need to make it too :-) Great job
So cool, so beautiful
Great..! Physics and excellent skills with tools...!
I cryed it is a Beautyfull masterpiece once I have the tools and materials I'm making it.
Awesome again and again. Thank You Sir!!!
+Elton Topalli Cheers Elton, thanks for your support mate :)
The Bob Ross of machining
Fantastic stuff! There is some serious skill and precision work on show here. Your videos are super-clear and well narrated, and the video effects are done extremely well. It's easy to see what you are doing and why. Might show some of your clips in engineering classes...
Great channel, subscribed and heading off to make myself a gyro! (after I watch all the other Clickspring vids...)
That was amazing!
Looks like you had as much fun playing with it as you did making it. I guess that's the whole reason to make the thing in the first place isn't it? Thanks for bringing this project to us.
