If you have ever heard of the CNW twins they are 2 dash 9s that survived unpatched and unpainted thru December 2017. One is 8701 i dont remember the other number.

@EvanstonSub those would be good unit for your layout as rare power. Scaletrains plans to make those units in a future dash 9 run.

Daryl - love the reviews. I too love the faded flat look on the ex SP loco. I actually have the Athearn Roundhouse version they did several years ago and it too had that flat finish. Funnily enough, also picked up a CNW loco as well and got it patched - nice splash of color to break up the armor yellow and harbor mist grey.
Always wondered how you did your speed matching - thanks for including that.
    Keep up the great work!!

    Nice Locomotives Daryl!!!
I used to pass by the ex SP line
that UP took over on my way
down to Laredo Texas, back in
2015 Corsicana Texas received 19 inches of rain washing out the roadbed on that line causing a derailment
that left both UP units on their
side, that was a sight for sure,
that line parallels 31 out of
Corsicana, I think at one time
it was the SSW from Texas to
    Missouri if I'm not mistaken!!!!
There is a cool diamond there
    too that crosses BNSF!!!!

Another great show Daryl! It's always fun to see what you've been up to this week.
I'm a diehard SP fan, so in my world the SP took over the UP. So I've got 3 UP locos that are going to be patched to SP. Just to be different. Besides, I really like the modeling choices when weathering SP equipment - go light, go dirty, anything in between - it works. Nothing wrong with clean, mind you! But is there another RR that had the likes of "SP Grime"?

When I went train watching in the 80s in TX SP units were always extremely dirty.

I want to say I've seen video of the UP 6718 in CNW colors as late as early 2018, so I would say it got repaint that year. So about a year earlier then Big Boy's first run.

A very prototypical look as S.P. weathered with time. Typical U.P. care, passed by a U.P. yard once, and thought there was CSX unit there. Turned out to be a U.P. unit, so dirty it was gray looking.

Model railroad time frame "elastic license." Lots of locomotives change up operating sessions, more realism.

Hi Daryl. Were you saying "Patching" or "Matching"? and what do they mean?
    Chris Walsall UK

    • @tomschmidt3165
      @tomschmidt3165 3 месяца назад +1

Patching refers to a new owner temporarily renumbering/lettering of a loco recently purchased from the former railroad. Matching refers to speed matching the model locos so that they will operate smoothly together without bucking back and forth.
