    Many of the issues i've experienced in my garden have just been caused by uneven watering. I'd like to get back all the time (and money) i've wasted on trying to fix issues with my plants when the problem all along has just been lack of a consistent watering schedule. Pls enjoy the video, "How to install soaker hose in the vegetable garden" - I am sure this will help your garden as it has mine.

    This was great Riley.
    2021 was my first year. I tried irrigation lines and struggled with all the tiny parts. Arthritis in my hands. I switched to soakers and they worked well. I do live on a well and tried an inline filter but it restricted the flow immensely. I did away with it. Looking forward to 2022. Added a few more smaller beds and learned a ton. I just have to find a way to leave space for continued harvests through the season. I had great lettuce but it bolted. I'll be better prepared next season. I even added trellises over the beds to give a bit of shade to the lettuces. Fingers crossed.

    Very well-explained. I have also had success with using an end cap on the soaker hose. You may get somewhat more even pressure from your loop system with a low-volume flow. In my little flower garden the end-cap method works fine. Thank you.

    How do you manage a number of beds using this system? Don’t you have to move the garden hose from bed to bed? What do you do when you are out of town for a week or so? Thank you for this interesting video.
    I have used soaker hoses, but have had trouble getting them to bend. How close to the plants do you need the hose to be? I plant flowers, how close to each plant does the hose need to be? Is efficient to have more than one length of hose in a bed?

    • @rileysgarden8153
      @rileysgarden8153  2 года назад +2

      Hi Sara,
      I have a soaker hose in each bed and they are all connected to one main water line with a wireless programmable timer.
      I’ve just done a video on the things I do before I leave the garden for a vacation. You may want to check that video out. When it comes to the soaker hoses though, I don’t have to worry about it because they are on a smart timer that will delay the watering if there is rain forecast or I can manually water them using my phone app when I’m out of town.
      I loop The soaker hoses in rows about 8-12” wide. I use the wire clips to hold them in place while I’m bending them into this shape and do not have a problem. My plants are in the center of those 8-12” rows and I water deeply (30min) 2x per week this year and everything is working well.

    Curious if you remove soaker hoses overwinter when the plants don't need watering? Then reinstall in the spring.. I heard this may extend their lifespan.

    Great video. I have the same B Hyve timer and those same soaker hoses. Your plants look awesome and healthy. I would love to know how often you water and for how long. I have raised beds as well. I have searched and searched but everyone just says water tomatoes deep and not as often but I never know how much that actually is. 😭

    • @rileysgarden8153
      @rileysgarden8153  3 года назад +3

      Hi Renee,
      When I first started using the soaker hose, I watered for 10 minute every morning around 10am and found that was too much water. I backed it off to 10 minutes 3x a week and that worked well for me. I have a friend that turns theirs on for 30 minutes one time per week but I found my beds would dry out completely if I did that here in south Texas. I hope that helps. If not, please experiment and let us know what has worked best for you.

    I am about to set up my first two raised beds with soaker hoses. I don’t have an in ground pvc run so I am thinking of using 1/2 in irrigation supply tubing down the length of the two beds and then use barbed T fittings at each bed to run the soaker hoses to each bed. Will that work?

    I noticed that you had a plastic disc with a hole in it...is this to keep hose pressure even? I'm having a problem with much more water from the soaker hose close to where the supply hose is screwed to it.

    • @rileysgarden8153
      @rileysgarden8153  2 года назад

      Yes. Your soaker hose connection / where it connects to the garden hose, should have this disc with the hole in it. It is to regulate the water flow into the hose. All soaker hoses that I have purchased have this regulator.
