  • Bedford Reservation is part of the Cleveland Metroparks system. It has several attactive features, including Bridal Veil Falls (one of the most majestic waterfalls in the area), extensive hiking trails, and a scenic overlook of the Tinkers Creek valley. It also offers over 11 miles of mountain bike trails, which are sectioned off by an all purpose trail that runs the length of Bedford Reservation.
This video provides complete footage of the Touchstone Loop (2 mi), which is the most challenging section in the Bedford Singletrack trail system. Riders will face roots and rocks at times, as well as a creek crossing, and a few steep drops and climbs. There are no berms on Touchstone (or anywhere else on Bedford Singletrack), making it difficult to carry speed through the twists and sharp turns in the trail. Intermediate and advanced riders should have no problem navigating Touchstone, but it may be a bit too challenging for beginners, who are best to stick to the other sections of Bedford Singletrack.
Stay tuned for future videos featuring the other sections of the Bedford Singletrack Mountain Bike Trail system!

I live in University Heights, and I’m thinking about buying my first real mtb. Bedford is pretty close, so I’ll likely start there. Is there a specific section you’d recommend for a total nube? Thanks, man!

Parallel Universe, Karl's Korner, and Wight Oak are good sections for someone just starting off. The Friendship, Moore, and Volunteer Spirit trails are also beginner friendly.
Mars Quarry and Touchstone are more challenging (steeper and more sustained climbs & descents than the others, tight turns, rocky/rooty sections, & a creek crossing), but still manageable for beginners who take their time.
There's a link in the description to an excellent article on the Century Cycles site that gives directions to each section of trail. You can use that to plan combining sections, since each is pretty short on their own.
Also, make sure to check the trail conditions at the Cleveland Area Mountain Biking Association site to see what's open (rain typically = closures): camba.us/wp/ride/conditions
      Hope that helps!

Northeast Ohio Hikes and Bikes Thanks for the info! That’s definitely helpful. I still need to get a bike, but I’ll check out those spots and hit the link to the Century Cycles article too. Thanks again!

Northeast Ohio Hikes and Bikes thanks so much for all of that info! I checked out a few vids bc I’d like to start mtb in this area too. I’ve never done it before. I’m just now getting back into biking so I’m pretty much a noob too, and I’ve been sticking to bike and hike and towpath in summit. They get stale though and they’re generally flat. Any recommendations on how to ease my way into a mtb trail? The tight curves make me nervous, lol
Oh and another question. Surely the trails are busiest on weekends... any weekday that you find typically has less people? I’d like to try this out with no one else around haha

@@steelersfan4eva I would suggest starting with the White & Green trails at Hampton Hills Metropark (Akron). They are the most beginner friendly. Then I'd say the rest of the trails progress, from easiest to more difficult, as follows:
      1. Bedford sections listed above.
      2. Quail Hollow State Park (Hartville)
      3. Royalview Yellow & Red Trail (Strongsville - Video Hopefully Coming Soon)
      4. Huffman Trail (Medina)
      5. Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation Trail (Cleveland)
      6. Lake Milton Trail
      7. Camp Tuscazoar - East Side Trails (Dover)
      8. Atchinson/Hogsback Ridge Trail (Lake County)
      9. Austin Badger (Medina)
      10. Hampton Hills Woodward Creek Section
      11. East Rim Trail & Lamb Loop (Boston/CVNP - Video of Lamb Loop coming soon)
      12. Regan Park & Highschool Trail (Medina)
      13. River Trail (Medina)
      14. Royalview - Spur Trail
      15. West Branch State Park
      16. Camp Tuscazoar - West Side Trail
      17. East Rim - Edson Run (For the jumps)
      18. Vulture's Knob (Wooster)
      19. Mohican State Park
The only trail I haven't ridden in the area is Thorn Trail, in Findley State Park, but I'll be doing that sometime this summer. I expect it to be middle of the pack in terms of difficulty.
Hopefully that isn't info overload, but that's how I'd lay out a progression. As your skills improve and you gain confidence, move down the list.

@@steelersfan4eva Oh, and a few visits to Ray's Indoor MTB Park will do wonders for maintaining/improving skills, especially in winter.
