- Опубликовано: 5 сен 2024
- Patrick Rothfuss, author of the "Name of the Wind" and "The Wise Man's Fear," demonstrates his writing process as he composes a blog blog post for his Worldbuilders organization. He also talks a little bit about his fiction-writing. Part of our Wisconsin Writes series of videos designed to help students and teachers observe how successful authors write - dpi.wi.gov/wisc... - which includes an interview with Rothfuss as well.
I can see now why book 3 still hasn't been written
Patrick Rothfuss, distracted since 2011
Rothfuss makes George R. R. Martin look like Stephen King.
i thought this was about his writing process not about worldbuilders.......i was really excited by this video till 1/3 of the way through.
It seems like he basically set up his computer then spent the rest of the video plugging the charity. That's fine, and I donate to Worldbuilders, but don't title the video "Pat Rothfuss's Writing Process."
+Ryjacard but that's his writing process! and also the reason why book 3 hasn't come out yet lol
+Callaghan lol. so true.
+Ryjacard agreed
+Callaghan lol true that.
YOU HAVE A BERSERK PHOTO, I LOVE BERSERK
Very misleading title. There is really no writing process here at all. This is the how-to-distract-yourself-from-writing-with-a-charity process. Great stuff, but not what the title promised.
😀
Yep. This is the opposite of a writing process.
I see the process in it.
I think they meant non-writing process lol
Skipped ahead and he's talking about goats and charities. Misleading title
Pat's writing process: write a sentence -> go for 5-month long vacations -> write seconds sentence
Do you outline? How do you approach characters? What time of the day do you write the most? Do you have beta-readers? How do you approach the second/third draft? etc etc
Don't tell me about geeks, and what we like, please, just tell us how you write your stories.....
He does have Beta readers, he thanks them in his acknowledgements.
He uses tons of Beta Readers. Like, more than usual. He comments about this in multiple other videos. He also, rewrites his books/stories multiple times to thin out the plot points and get specific details arranged in a way he enjoys.
This is why book 3 is not done.
Pretty sure I could listen to Patrick Rothfuss talk all day about anything. Literally anything.
Same
Cool and all but I would prefer him to write than talk.
Very nice video. Pat's way of talking is really calming and authentic. Unfortunately the talk about his actual writing process comes a little short in this feature. Too bad!
We at the mechanicalkeyboards subreddit salute you on your mission of converting people to the great Model M.
The process - writing really slowly.
I can't type on little dinky modern keyboards either! I gotta have the thick heavy keys that go clack-clack or it just messes with me. I did however find a gaming keyboard that not only feels like an older one, but also lights up. It's been my favorite one ever.
Mechanical Keyboards FTW.
I'm convinced book 3 doesn't exist.
😀
He is probably still debating the title ( like 'should I settle with The Doors of Stone or change it').
There is so much that has to happen in book three, if I was him, maybe the book would never be finished.
😢👍
We'll never get book 3 :((
Are the goats editing the book? Is that why it's taking so long?
You really do have to have a routine if you're going to make yourself write regularly. Full-time writing is self-motivated, which can be so hard :(
Pat is one of my favorite people.
Kind of a misleading title, but a wonderful video nonetheless. Patrick Rothfuss is amazing.
Even when he’s just talking about his writing process, he gets distracted and procrastinates. Book 3 is never coming.
I'm starting to see why the 3rd book is taking so long.
I'm used to Pat getting distracted, shame that no one seemed to bring him back to the original topic. Or, more likely, the video is nerd clickbait.
Only thing I came away with is that Pat has a Dwarven Forge collection I'm pretty jealous of.
Sorry but this isn't about his " Writing Process " It's about his charity... like usual.
I see a Settlers of Catan board game in the background! I would kill to play with Patrick Rothfuss lol.
Enjoyed the video, but the false advertisement of "writing process" is really a cheap trick. Honestly turns me away from looking into your other content.
I'm sorry I have to say this, but I have started to lose faith in Pat. Everything is a shill for his charity. He never answers questions, just skirting around doing what he wants. That's fine, it's his choice, but I'm losing interest.
He has a WTNV T-shirt!!!! 👌👌👌👌
Heh, you can tell he's having some fun by completely ignoring and lampooning the interview prompt.
Wow, I really enjoy the behind the scenes look into your process and your game/work suite. I hope my next house will have a tabletop/rpg game room. (Sidebar: I can't help but imagine that laptop has the latest draft of the Doors of Stone.)
Its like he has ADD. Smh. I wanted to learn about his writing process.
this was 10% "what i do when i write" 90 % "worldbuilders" and 300 % exited nerds and wanting writers looking to get hints from their great mentor XD we love you, Pat :)
Great vid, still havn't read Patrick's books but I will try one day.
How do you accidentally start a charity?
Okay, I'm going to start a crime syndicate...hey, who turned this into a charity?
Love it :D. I had one of this keyboards xD
I'm 57 seconds into this and I must say: wicked t-shirt. (Okay, back to the show.)
I realize this is a random question. I would like to build a bookshelf like the one Patrick has in my home office, and I don't know much about those sort of things. Can someone tell me what kind of brackets those are, where you can mount multiple boards on them?
U talk about writing for a minute, and about that project for 12minutes...
Useless video. Anyway, nice thing you want to help people. But thats not the theme of this video.
I'm watching this video cause I have a homework that is All About INTERNATIONAL WRITERS
are those props for D&D game in the back?
"I go to the madness place"
Great Interview, I loved this!
The SSK was my favorite part ;) Bolt modded and Soarers mod?
So true about the keyboard...so true.
Welcome to Night Vale T-shirt
Rothfuss! Yes! He's the best!
what keyboard is that?
Now he plays Witcher 3
He needs to stop talking and start finishing that 3rd frikkin book!!
He sounds like a Business man. For me..
6:51 And what about logic?
Finish your book already!
12:00 I see an unopened box of Cards Against Humanity.
TLDR; 2:27 I get easily distracted
I don't know why all the complaints. He was quite clear his process is "go to the madness place; come back with writing"... sounds fair. I came really, really late to this party, like years late, and it's freakin' hilarious all the worrying about when book 3 is coming out. He said himself the story is finished, just needs polishing. He's capitalizing on his deserved reputation, and why not?
Yeah, we are never going to see book 3.
sigh pat has a model M .... so lucky.
Sound of keyboard xO
Summary: it doesnt exist
I write a book I not finish first ch
Patrick hothouse writing process, open laptop cues up youtube, after does anything else but writing,
If your complaint is that he isn't directly "teaching" you how to write then you aren't listening at all to what he is talking about. His explanation of his charity and other things embodies his writing. He's teaching you quite a bit. Like any good professor, he's not holding your hand through the process.
Hahahahahahahaha!
misleading title... bad for you
😪...
"nukyuler"
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Stop talking and write the third book! ;) Obviously just kidding. Given what a great writer he is, it shouldn't surprise me as much as it does how very eloquent he is in describing the writing process.
This dude CAN NOT stay on topic.
I'm watching this video cause I have a homework that is All About INTERNATIONAL WRITERS
