      Thanks, Doc. I appreciate it. I'm in the process of editing/revising my debut novel (an epic fantasy many years in the making), and hope to get the ball rolling on publishing sometime this year. As I'm sure you know, this leaves me with very little time to make videos, but I'm hoping to make a new one every two weeks moving forward (as opposed to every month lol).

      @coreyhuffman7607 Ha, yes, definitely. I usually write non-fiction, but I published my first novel this year. I'm a life-long fan of literary fiction, and I took a ton of courses on fiction-writing. But I was totally unprepared for the amount of re-writing and editing that goes into fiction. Time-consuming, far out of proportion to non-fiction writing. But, one of my instructors once said, "Perfection is the enemy of done." Nevertheless, a novel is like your baby, and you don't want to let go until it's as perfect as your abilities will allow.

    Great video!
    So, there is a need of smooth transition between different ideas and topics. But, I feel like when I write a sentence after another one, there is a need of smooth syllable transition as well.
    But that usually requires extensive vocabulary knowledge or changing the first sentence as well.
    This not exactly what it is but I hope you get the point.
    Thoughts?

      Every sentence should (ideally) transition, or be related to, the next, but there many ways to link the two. In my video, I refer to "contextual" transitions, and "linguistic" transitions. What you're referring to as a "syllable" transition would be an example of a linguistic transition; that is, complimenting the structure and sound of successive sentences. A large vocabulary certainly helps, but this will simply develop with time and practice. Writing smooth transitions will almost always require several revisions, going over and over it until the writing feels smooth. I did my best in this video to highlight how this is done, but there is infinite variation, and like most writing skills, you'll only ever learn how to do it with practice, practice, and more practice lol. Paying attention to what you read is also very important. This is how you download the "feel" and "sound" of well-written prose into your unconscious. Then it's just a matter of polishing your writing until it sounds "right." Hope this answers your question.

    I see your WoT in the background-have you read the entire series?. Sorry for the off-topic mention, great video as always.

      I've actually only read the first three books (and did so a few years ago). I enjoyed them, but at the time I was trying to study the writing styles of as many authors as I could, so I moved on to other books instead of reading fifteen from the same author lol. I'm sure I'll get back to WoT one of these days.

      @@coreyhuffman7607 hahaha I figured. I’m on the last one now, so I wanted to ask. Would love for a video on it eventually, seeing as you seem to be going through a kind of “greatest hits” list of fantasy authors. :) Character viewpoint style perhaps?

    Are those rudraksha beads on your water jug?

      Not quite. My rudraksha mala is hidden under my collar 😉. Those beads on the jug are actually homemade. I hand-carved/sanded them.

    Transitions is so my weak point 😭

    • @coreyhuffman7607
      @coreyhuffman7607  9 месяцев назад +2

      I would say this is one of the most difficult aspects of writing, so don't be too hard on yourself. I think every writer struggles with this (I certainly do).

      I can spare the time to read through it and give you my thoughts, but not much more than that (I wouldn't be able to give a detailed, line-by-line analyses, if that's what you're asking). My channel is getting to the size where I have a decent number of people asking for my help, and unfortunately I only have so much time to spare. Send me your email in the comments here, and I'll reach out so that you have mine.
