    Just discovered Samm's videos. I am high school teacher and am diving into the RC world myself. I am hoping to learn enough so I can teach an elective class called "wheels and wings". I hope that Samm's family knows his son's knowledge and ability to simplify and share that is still living on. Samm's videos are better than everything else I am finding out there. Thanks much to Samm and mom and dad for raising such a good son. I will be using some of his videos on RC planes to share with my students. I appreciate how the family's faith in God has given them hope and peace. Keep the faith!

      @SammSheperd  8 лет назад +2

      Rum Ham By pressing down on the right stick, you enter flip mode. The transmitter will beep and you can push it forward, back, left or right and it will flip that direction by itself.
      You can also cut the throttle mid flip to force it to flip multiple times, though recovery is not guaranteed.

    • @joeya5438
      @joeya5438 8 лет назад

      ***** The only other question I have right now is about LiPo batteries. It is my understanding that they should not be discharged past a certain point. How am I supposed to know when they reach that point to ensure I don't damage them? Do I need to get a multimeter to check them?

    • @SammSheperd
      @SammSheperd  8 лет назад +2

      Rum Ham Great question, LiPo batteries are annoying because they won't let you know when they are dead. Once they discharge past 80% of their capacity, or about 3.0v-3.2v per cell, they start to damage themselves. But since most ESC's come with a low voltage cutoff feature these days, it's not quite as important. But a good tool I use is this one www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-RC-Lipo-Battery-Low-Voltage-Alarm-1S-8S-Buzzer-Indicator-Checker-Tester-LED-/271746517929?hash=item3f455acba9:g:MzYAAOSwYGFUvRrP
      It plugs into the balance plug and tells you all the voltages, and you can set at which voltage to trigger the alarm, it is VERY loud for such a small thing. If you wanna be extra nice to your batteries, set it to like 3.4v, or you could push them down to 3.0v if you really want, just don't leave them there for too long.

    • @SammSheperd
      @SammSheperd  8 лет назад +3

      ***** Currently, 2.4GHz is what everyone is using. With 2.4 GHz, the Tx and Rx are connected digitally and don't need crystals. Before 2.4GHz, it was 72MHz, with that system people would have to use a matching crystal in the Tx and the Rx. there were only a certain number of different crystals so people had to make sure two people weren't using the same crystals. These crystals were named a channel. What the crystal actually does is tune the radio into a specific sub frequency. like 72.790MHz. 72MHz was also kinda glitchy, required 8 AAA's and had really long antennas. So the new 2.4GHZ is pretty great.

    I heard an American say solder instead of sodder! No but seriously, great video - I thought there might be more to this, but now I know there isn't, I am far less hesitant about buying this stuff to make my own scratch built plant or glider! Also I'd like to add FPV. If you are reading this (despite it being a relatively old video) I would be very interested to see 1) a video on how to build a foam plane/hand-launch glider 2) how to install the cheapest and most effective FPV system on said air vehicle.

    I’ve done this before. I’ve built my own aircraft. But I had to come back to this video because I just got a freewing f22 8s pro, and the thing is way bigger and way more powerful than your typical homebrew aircraft. It’s got a bigger motor and consumes considerably more power than an Xmaxx. Xmaxx batteries won’t give me 5 minutes of flight. I hope this video stays up for all time, because I doubt anyone could explain it better. Your 30A 3s 4 channel planes are one thing, but a 150A 8s 6+ channel with a 90mm EDF producing 6kg of thrust is another thing entirely.

    Thanks so much for making this video! I'm currently building a 250 FPV quad and just got a Tactic Ttx650 radio with the same exact receiver you use in this video. Up until watching this video, I was confused as to whether or not I had to use a separate battery just to power the Rx. Your video cleared this up for me!Knowing that my ESC's have a BEC and that I can power everything including my Rx with just one battery is a huge relief! I searched high and low for any videos that featured the Tactic receiver and how I'd go about having to power it and luckily your video popped up in my feed. Thanks so much! 😃

      @SammSheperd  7 лет назад

      +Iwillsayyes1 glad it helped. I plan to make a similar video on the subject of "quadcopter parts for noobs" and "FPV for nubes" but for now I have to tell you that the ESCs used for quadcopter a nowadays don't have BECs because it's a bit silly to have 4 of them. Instead they put a BEC (or 5v output) usually on the PDB (power distribution board). I love my tactic, but as far as I know they don't have any receivers with PPM or serial output (one wire for all channels), meaning you'll have to use PWM (one wire for each channel) which is fine.

    Awesome video! I bought a cheap drone at a thrift store for 2.00. It took me a few days to learn how to fly it. Now I'm planning to build a decent one. Your video has helped me big time. Awesome job. Thank you!

    Thank you so much for doing this video! I am a complete noob when it comes to this stuff, but ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to build an RC plane from hand. I would really appreciate it if you do more videos like this!

    Thank you sooooo much. I have recently fallen in love with DIY RC planes that FliteTest makes, so I wanted to try it. I hopped onto amazon, and being a computer guy, I thought, "How hard can it be?" Very, apparently. All the other RUclips videos covering this are vague and aimed at mid-level creators. Your view taught me what I need to know to make RC planes.

    Two questions, how would you connect multiple servos/motors into one channel, like how when you roll in a plane one aileron goes up and the other side goes down, but that only happens in one movement of the transmitter, not 2 different buttons. Also how do you connect the transmitter to the receiver wirelessly?

    • @kumeater
      @kumeater 8 месяцев назад +2

      I think you would put one control on the remote to a bunch of channels on the receiver

    Brilliant video, the speed controller supplying both power to the receiver and receiving the signal was the thing I didn't understand and probably what confuses most people at the start, I initially assumed a second battery would be needed.

    I, sure, miss Samm. He just had a way about him, where he was able to sort and simplify electronic stuff, so the rest of us could understand it. Makes one wonder what he might have accomplished, if he hadn't encountered that roundabout. A great loss for all of us.
