This looks great. I think the main reason I don't play X-Wing more often is the setup and clean up. If All I need is a dozen cards, some ships and a mat and we can start that is GREAT
I don't mind these new pilot cards, because of games like Imperial Assault where a character/unit just comes as one card. But list building and customization in X-Wing has always been so fun and I don't want to lose that.
I’m all for these types of releases. I’m not really into the tournament scene and have always preferred to play thematic style games so this pack ticks all the boxes for me!
I like this format. I agree with you I hate organizing and having to search through decks to build out when I just want to have a fun time game. I think the standardized load outs are a great way to reduce the complexity and bring more people in to the game. I'm excited to play them
It's about time they do "historical " scenarios. The movies and novels have plenty of space for adaption to xwing, eg the pursuit of the millennium falcon in the asteroid field.
I'd forgo the battle of Coruscant and would like to see a take down the Malevolence scenario. The only issue I see is that you have to own a fair number of ships already to run this? So, while the cards are new player friendly, the pack in and of itself isn't so much. Of course I would have loved to have seen Evaan Verlaine as one of the pilots, but oh well.
I don't like the changes to the ship abilities. It goes to the lack of consistency on AMG's part. Also the fact that the TIE's missing shield upgrades....
Why the hell do those "canon-accurate" scenarios have TIE Interceptors at the Battle of Yavin? And why do they have shields? Thats one of the things i dislike the most about AMGs treatment of X-wing, the disregard of canon ship statistics and seemingly random selection of upgrade slots on a lot of ships.
Because interceptors could've been there, there was a lot more going on than just the trench run with Luke. Additionally, from a gameplay perspective, the regular tie and the tie advanced are not a particularly interesting team composition and it adds some variability to the gameplay. It may not be exactly what happened in the movie, but if it was then the rebels would win every time. It doesn't need to be perfect. I do think it's strange that the interceptor has a shield, part of that could be the prototype aspect but it is probably more so the fact that if an interceptor gets a bad roll it blows up in one atrack and that just isn't fun for anybody, and it adds another point of health that can't be critically damaged, so it may not be lore accurate but it is much better gameplay-wise, and it is much easier to add a shield than to add another ability that says your first point of damage cant be critical.
This isn't a new, or particularly good idea. FFG had done a Battle of Yavin thematic tournament format and it wasn't a big hit. I just don't see how a trench run will work well in this game. Flying a ship straight from end to end of a mat will take 3-4 rounds. Less if you're flying Vader with afterburners. What it looks like to me is AMG releasing new content while ignoring the need for reprints and avoiding designing new ships. Good luck doing an Escape from Hoth scenario with no Tie Bombers or Rebel Transports.
Hate it. I’d be indifferent if this was a scenario specific build, but with AMG confirming standard play legal I can only surmise that this is the closest we’ll get to game dev because they don’t understand xwing. They proved that with the whole 2.5/Xwing Crisis Protocol model.
I'm still not on the AMG version because of the fundamental problem with moving away from a dogfighting game. And though this has generated some interest in me, I still have the problem of no one in my area playing X-Wing anymore in the last 2 and a half years. Also, having more minis on the table is (still!) a way to show how tightly balanced X-Wing is (was!): Any special ability that works on all friendly ships becomes SERIOUSLY powerful when you go over the standard dogfight points (remember standard dogfighting? Used to be what the game was about). What does this do for the other factions? There are more factions that weren't at Yavin than these two!
I'm not surprised by anything in this release, this is the direction of travel AMG have alluded to since they took the reins. Does it prevent people from playing the old way? No. Does it present new challenges and gameplay options? Yes. Is it going to be balanced? No way to know, but I suspect that with the amount of time they've had to develop this expansion I'd have my concerns.
This is probably my most anticipated expansion since they announced the Trident would have a co-op mode! I love that AMG is creating more kitchen table friendly content.
I'm a casual gamer and sticking with 2.0 for now, but quick builds are the way to go for me. List building with the risk of points changes are a pain. Prefer to set and forget and just have fun playing.
@@timunderbakke8756 I like that everything is all on one card, but I've just printed all the quick build cards with all pilot and upgrade texts on them from infinite arena for 2.0, so that meets my needs.
When the points come out for these "pre-built" pilot cards, they need to remain at the same current points. Luke is currently at 6. If he is 5 points, why would you ever take standard Luke? If 7, you wouldnt take BoY Luke. This is another way AMG is painting themselves into a corner.
I guarantee this Luke will be cheaper than standard Luke. They’re going to pimp the new product however they can. They might “realize” the “mistake” on a later point balance, but it’s totally happening to push sales. When they fix it, there’s going to be a new card pack to push those sales.
I am excited for these scenario packs to come out! The standard loadouts will motivate me to play more because I won't need to hunt upgrade cards down. One card per ship and I'm off. Love this idea!
What do you think about adding to x wing more epic ships? Rebels: hammerhead / Pelta class frigate / Raider class (Corvus) Imperial: Arquitents Scum: ZH-40 tribune freighter /Fenner Shand Ship Mandalorian: teroch-class mandalorian cruiser Republic: Consular class cruiser /arquitents Separatist: hardcell class transport / C-9979 Landing Crft
I agree with you, I really like packs like this but if you use the logic of what ships "are" available, then B wings, Tie Defenders, A wings U wings, etc could be in this pack.
One problem with these in a standard game is if you run say the tie/in then all your other tie/ln's will have to have the same load out. No more list building and no generics are coming down the line.
I’m loving all of the legion and x/wing content AMG is pushing out. I’m also off of social media you’re my only source of information. Love it bro, keep it up.
Excited about new ways to play with the the same miniatures I already have. Standard dog fights will never die. This just adds new gameplay. It's still about flying well.
I’m still really new to the game. Just got myself an A-Wing yesterday as my first purchase after the core set. So I’m not used to the points system yet. It should be a *little* easier to learn how it works for me
I want to know more about Armada to be honest. What is new with that? Are they bringing out more ships and campaigns to the Civil War? How about some tie-ins with Legion, or RP elements? Like a created commander, hero or Admiral?
I think something like this can be really cool, I’ve always loved building thematic lists. But I am concerned about these being standard legal. Especially since Iden has a first order exclusive upgrade (fanatical). It just breaks the rules of the game. Also if you look at the back of the box, the Iden there doesn’t have a shield but the one they show do. Something interesting I noticed. Update: Looking at it again, it’s actually not the first order upgrade fanatical. It is called fanatic and is based on being damaged instead of not having shields. Also Luke’s X-Wing doesn’t mention anything about S-foils, so I wonder if he can use them or not?
I noticed the same, but I think that AMG is keeping a close eye on what they're doing, especially if the intent was to make these standard legal. Even in the case of Fanatic on Iden, they gave her a shield to bring her in line with the shielded First Order pilots. These should (theoretically) be even more easy to balance with their fixed upgrades, but that remains to be seen.
@@josiahneese348 I see what you mean, by adding the shield they would have an easier time balancing it because they’ve balanced things like it before. Still does feel weird running it and I wonder what this means for the future with standard load outs
@@MrMorvana okay, if anything this would be like a “configuration” that instead of changing the ship ability will now change the pilot ability. Kinda like what happened to Vader
Hey guys very new to x wing and loving it. I got myself a core set and skystrike. But I’m missing the little connector piece for the movement dial? Any suggestions having a hard time finding the replacement parts. Thanks! Love your videos too man they brought me into the game!
You didn’t mention the fact that the empire tie interceptor has a FO-only talent in Fanatic. I wonder if cross-faction add-ons will continue in these self contained builds
I liked the scenarios that used to come with the bigger expansions it was a nice way to mix it up on occasion. I don’t know if I’d want to buy one though…
I've always preferred scenario play. I've played multi-player campaign days that were epic fun. This is the first thing from AMG that I'm excited about.
It is ideal for quick play, I love it! One thing bothers me though - will I need 4 Y-wing at once to play? I can use my Scum figurines for this, but it is not very friendly for new players...
More trash for the pile I'm afraid. Stopped by the X-wing shelf at the couple FLGS's today while cruising around, they've shrunk to a third of its space allotted from a few months ago. It's just not working out for the stores the way it had been so they're cutting it way back in favor of games that actually move. Found a core set and some X-wing and TIE advanced for half off even, and they were literally coated with dust. Hate to see it, but it do be that way. Holy shit I got that rap reference too!🤣 Make me a space cocktail R2!
