This anime is going to pull on your heart strings for sure. Even in the first episode I already teared up >_< 27:42 You are mistaken. Sports is not a hobby when you take classes for it. When you take classes that means you are aiming to be a pro or at the least be in a competitive level. At any rate, this is how we Asians look at it.
Great reaction! About ‘just hobby’ part, it’d help you to understand that figure skating is extreamly expensive sports to do. It may depends where to live but in case of Japan, it will cost average 200.000 JPY / month.
Medalist is masterpiece manga that show the cruel reality for someone that choose a atlite skater sports as their life career. First episode already enough show how dark this sport that can easily destroy atlete dream & life.
Plenty of people go into a sport hoping or expecting to go pro, I personally know several people who did. Whether or not it's the most healthy thing or not, just depends on how you handle setbacks and failure.
Let's give you a story about Medalist and how it was made. This story is well known in the idolm@ster fandom. The manga-ka, Tsurumaikada, became a huge fan of the seiyuu Haruse Natsumi when he discovered her through idolm@ster Cinderella Girls. Natsumi played Kaoru Ryuzaki, one of the idols from the U149 group (yes the lolis). He made a 100 page doujin about Natsumi basically chronicling her various roles and appearances in the anime industry. The doujin was offered free because he wanted the world to know about Natsumi. He quit his day job to become a manga-ka with the intention of making Natsumi voice the main character of his manga one day. He found common interest with Natsumi's pass time, figure skating. Manga-ka learn how to ice skate, and despite suffering multiple fractures and attended multiple surgeries for the sake of research, he managed to get his story picked up for serialisation. He based Inori on Kaoru. So if you look at both of them side-by-side, they have similar big foreheads, same coloured eyes, and most importantly that sweet and beautiful smile. His story was awarded various accolades, including something like best new manga I think 2-3 years ago. Natsumi also did the voice over in a commercial for the manga. The highest honour was then an anime project was announced for it. Everyone knew who Inori's seiyuu was going to be long before they announced the cast list.
The manga ``Medalist'' won first place in the comics category of the ``Next Coming Manga Award'' in 2022. I also cried when I watched the first episode.
Definitely a good show, although not quite as good as the manga, as it looks like they're leaving some stuff out. For instance, in the manga it's shown her classmates actively make fun of her for digging worms and she's an outcast, here it just looks like she's awkward with her classmates.

What is unusual and notable thing of ED, it’s OFFERED FROM YONEZU KENSHI SIDE, not from production side as usual.

翻訳が結構間違ってる所が多いです。
というか、翻訳家が自分の個人的感情が入り過ぎてる気がします。
