    Being a kid of the 70s, teen of the 80s and 20s in the 90s… I feel truly blessed. Such great music to grow up with! New Wave and Punk in the 80s clubs was something to experience for sure. Good times!

      @michelleheacock6326 Год назад +4

      We must be around the same age. It was an AMAZING time to grow up and I'd kill to go back and do it again. Lol. My parents liked 50s/60s doo-wop - early70s lite rock/country, my sister was Bob Seger, etc and brother was Led Zepplin, etc. I was the new wave/punk music girl. I grew up listening to, appreciating, and loving it all, and raised my girls on it all as well. As much as I like seeing the reactors discovering our music, their experience can never compare to ours. The excitement of a song coming on the radio for the first time, or the brand new music videos, or running out to buy the album or cassette, playing them over and over learning every word. We were truly very lucky.

    • @seasurfer10
      @seasurfer10 Год назад +3

      @@michelleheacock6326 you are so right. Back in the day when you bought an album you listened to every song. I never kept a journal when I was young but I can listen to a song or an album and it can take me right back to that place in time and I can remember where I was and what I going through in that particular time. Good or bad it was great and so diverse. Depending on your mood you could be listening to punk one day and soft rock or pop the next.

    Howard Jones "Dream Into Action", "No One is to Blame", etc. You guys have to do a deep dive into his works. He was one of the first 80's one-man bands. He was a synth innovator and used technology to set up his musical sound. Along with being the vocalist, he played keyboards, drums, piano, and others.

My favorite was New Wave but I also listened to club, rap, hip hop, punk, and a bunch of other genres. I never really realized how diverse the music was until I watched your channel and you pointing out how wide-ranging the music was. Love HoJo and saw him in concert when I was stationed at Plattsburgh AFB, NY in '87.
    Amber, I think what you're referring to is how the '80s was a musical Renaissance. Digital instruments like synthesizers with hundreds of instrument voices, digital sampling and multi-track recording to layer, digital media like CDs, and MTV changed music like never before. Everything was experimental and fresh. The '80s were also called the 2nd British Invasion because of all the new groups from Great Britain coming over on tour and appearing on MTV. It was an AWESOME time to be a teenager.

Some of his other hits were/are "Things Can Only Get Better," (I think you'd probably like that one the best) "Like To Get To Know You Well," and "No One Is To Blame." If you like quirky voices, upbeat 80's tunes, and outrageous 80's styles, you should really check out the group Dead or Alive and their hit song "You Spin Me Round" (the official video). That'll put a smile on your face. lol. I also notice you haven't checked out Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Their song "Relax" played in dance clubs all the time. It might be a little too spicy for the channel, I don't know. hahaha. I know you're good Christian folks.

    So glad you got around to listening to HoJo. This was from his first album when he was effectively a "one-man band" on stage; just him and a load of synths (plus an occasional visit from mime artist Jed Hoile). He later expanded to a full band set-up. I strongly suggest you check out "Things Can Only Get Better" from his second album. It features some REAL horns and I'm sure you'll love the vibe! He's still recording and touring to this day.

    Howard Jones is a British musician, singer and songwriter. He is one of the defining figures of mid-'80s synth-pop and is associated with the 1980s Second British Invasion of the US. He had ten top 40 hit singles in the UK between 1983 and 1986; six of those 10 singles reached the top ten, including "What Is Love?", "New Song", and "Things Can Only Get Better". Jones had 15 top 40 hit singles between 1983 and 1992. The 1986 hit single "No One Is to Blame" reached No. 4 on the US charts. Four others placed in the US top 20. he only uses synthesizer for all of his music.

    This was Howard's biggest hit single here in his home country of the UK reaching number 2 in early 1984. This was his second single following 'New Song'. His debut album 'Humans Lib' reached number 1 in the UK. Standout non single tracks from his first 3 albums for me are 'Equality' 'Specialty' 'Will you still be there?' 'Things can only get better' is a must! 80's icon and such a talented artist, please react to more HOJO!!

    Howard was one of the youngest pianists to play for the London Symphony Orchestra. He was an accomplished classical pianist by the time he was a young teen. His musical however leaned more towards punk / pop. His girlfriend ( later to be his wife ) bought him a synthesizer and it started him on his journey. He ended up getting into the synths in a major way, with all of the early midi interface units where he could control several synths and drum machines by himself. He began playing gigs, just by himself and occasionally a bassist, and then with hid friend Jed, who was a mime, that mimed along with the songs as performance art. His first album was primarily just him, though others were brought in for certain parts. If you want to see where he started, please reacvt to "New Song," where Jed is a huge part. That song is funky and fun, and, it goes with Howard's philosophy, of being who you are, and accepting others for who they are, no matter how different they might be from the norm.
    Looking back, for people your age, you have no idea how strange, scary, or hated by the mainstream of society these punk and New Wavers, and Rockers of the early to mid 80s were. Howard was, at the time, considered strange by the mainstream, as was his music, not as weird as a lot of them ( Billy Idol couldn't get played much on rock radio in the states for a very long time because he was a punk rocker, and considered dangerous).
    As far as creativity in the 80s, you're absolutely right. Synths that could make almost any sound, drum machines, arpeggiators, new guitar effects boxes and all of that, all led to artists pushing the envelopes and venturing way out of the norms of music to create something completely different than had ever been heard before.
    Howard Jones, Kraftwerk, Keith Emerson ( with his Moogs ) , and Nick Rhodes ( Duran Duran keyboardist ), Gary Numan, were pioneers and led many of us that were pianists to the synth world where we could stand out and created our own kind of music.
    One last bit here, about the tech driving the sounds. When you're a musician, a different looking, different sounding, instrument will cause you to write and play differently. I've played synths since the early 80s, had played piano and percussion and brass before that. The synth changed the music I listened to, and the music I wrote. I play more bass and more guitar these last 20 years. I recently bought a new guitar, that is a shredder's type of guitar, after playing Strats and Gibson SGs since the 80s. It is so different , it took me three weeks just to get back to where I could play on it what I played on the SG, but when I write using it, I write completely differently because of the way it plays and how it sounds. I can see how it completely changed the musical landscape. They just couldn't help but try to push the instruments and themselves, like a visual artist with a new color of paint.

    Howard Jones! He was new wave/synth pop genius. He's from the UK. Even had the new wave/punk hair style. lol. He had many hit songs/videos during the '80s and early '90s. Many upbeat songs from him. Played at dance clubs and skating rinks.
    He reminded me of ABC, Thompson Twins, The Human League, Kajagoogoo, Book of Love, Pet Shop Boys, Tears for Fear, etc.
    Check out his other hit videos/songs from him like " Things Can Only Get Better", "New Song", "Everlasting Love", "Lift Me Up", etc.

    I'm 63 years old & was in my 20's during the 80's. It was truly the best time of my life & I loved the music of the 80's the best. I'm so glad to see younger people listening to the stuff I still love to listen to. I'm not real familiar with Howard Jones but always liked this song. Check out Scritti Polliti (Perfect Way is their best song). The 80's was a unique time for the music industry. The stuff that is new today can't hold a candle to the 80's.

    YES!!!! I love Howard Jones! He's one of the best musicians to come out of the 80s, IMHO. This was the first song of his that I heard, and it made me a fan for life. "No One Is to Blame" was a great slow-dancing song in high school. :) Other faves include "New Song", "You Know I Love You...Don't You?", "Everlasting Love", and "The Prisoner". If you do "Life in One Day", do a lyric version rather than the video. Another singer from the same time period that I think you'd enjoy is Nik Kershaw, who had hits with "Wouldn't It Be Good" or "The RIddle".

    As others have mentioned on here, Jones was well-known as synth innovator during the early 1980s. In his live shows, he often appeared as a one-man act with a stage full of synthesizers and electric drums. When I saw him a couple of times in Louisiana, he performed with a mime dancing around the stage. He generally did all of the singing, and he played many other instruments. He was truly a unique individual, kind of a 1980s version of Edgar Winter of the 1970s. They played different music and were from different eras to be sure, but they were multi-talented and brilliant artists.

    he is such a unique artist that still tours today. his repertoire isnt vast but he was big from here to the end of the 80s. you will see his best songs posted on here by various artists. if jay thinks this is fire, he has to listen to 'things can only get better'. it was probably his biggest hit of the 80s. this is part of the new wave style of the 80s. duran duran, depeche mode, yaz, erasure,haircut 100, kajagoogoo, japan. you are getting into a wheelhouse that was more college focused. some were cross over in terms of top 40 and college radio. but if you went to a club or a high school dance, you would hear more new wave and alternative music. keep doing what you guys do. love watching. ✌️
