That is so amazingly cool, haven't seen a 3d scanner used before! I just found your channel the other day (wish the raven kit wasn't sold out! :-), super excited to see what you come up with. Thanks for sharing!
@@jasperjanderson awesome to hear, I have signed up, fingers crossed. :D can't wait to see the parrot video as well coming up. I always thought animatronics were cool(/slightly intimidating), but not sure where/how to get started without courses, so I really love the idea of a kit & builder community. Also, I took the plunge and ended up pledging for this device based on your video (my first Kickstarter ever, actually) and your other scanner one with Frankenstein's monster head (!!). Would love to see how you use this one for your future projects. As a tool it seems so useful but I'm sure half of the potential applications wouldn't occur to me. :-)
@@katiew4156 I hope you get a lot of use out of it! Scanning is really handy for going back and forth between the real world and digital. I definitely recommend learning a digital sculpting program, too, because you’ll want to modify your scans. I use Zbrush, but Blender is good and free.
@jasperjanderson thanks for the tips, wish I could justify zbrush at this point (maybe after a lot of practice, haha). :) I'm definitely not skilled with digital sculpting, so the idea of having this scanner do some heavy lifting in translating/making assets is exactly the appeal for me, yes! :) seems like it would accelerate a lot of work. I appreciate you noting helpful pro tips for use too (e.g. the scanning techniques) -- hopefully makes the learning curve less steep & minimize beginner mistakes/surgery later
This is the only review that demonstrated the detail. Thank you. How do you increase contrast in zbrush to increase detail? And any print samples with filament? Appreciate it.
I’m glad it was helpful! Detail is always the big question with scanners. Contrast can be done to the whole subtool in the deformation tab, or targeted with one of the contrast brushes. I haven’t printed any scans from this in filament, but I think you can imagine how it will be a less detailed version of the resin print.
which is better for what we do, sculpture , lifecasts, ect...the miraco or the whale. and which do you prefer the whale or miraco? i have the miraco and considering a whale also. what are your recommendations. Thank you
No need for the Whale if you have the Miraco. Of the two, I've had a better experience with the Miraco. If anything, I'd consider something like the Mini to supplement it for finer detail pieces, if you find you need that. It can be challenging to scan a full head cast with the Mini, but the detail is going to be better than what the Miraco can produce.
@@jasperjandersonI know, just wondering how it works. If you pledge to a project, is there a chance that they take your $ and you never get what you were buying?
@@Dave_D. The crowdfunder reached their goal, and that is the point where it will deliver on expectations, unless there is some major cocaine habit or something like that such as the case with the SprayPrinter crowdfunder i invested in. Revopoint is not a new company and is producing the scanner, so i got one at 35% off rather than wait till later. It is shipping in december.
@@jasperjandersonThanks. Have you worked with the Revopoint Pop 3? I'm wondering if that's a cheaper alternative with similar performance, since I have a smartphone to pair for the Pop 3.
Thanks, just watched that video now. It looks like the Pop 3 is good for medium distance objects, while the Miraco supports near, medium, and far distance objects. Would you say that's inline with your experience? If I wanted to scan both chess pieces and a head/torso, would you recommend the Miraco over the Pop 3?
Think of Miraco like Pop 3 and Range combined. Chess pieces would be better with the Mini, but you could still capture them with the Pop 3 with lower detail.
That turned out great!
Thanks!

Thanks!! There will be more ravens in the future. Sign up for the email list if you haven't so you don't miss the next batch :)

Get yours today and start scanning with MIRACO!
This is a big step forward for consumer 3d scanners and sounds like a much improved workflow, at least during the scanning process.
It certainly feels like it!
What printer are you using?? Love the pumpkin! Can't wait to get into 3d printing instead of plasma cutting my parts!
I’ll trade you one of my printers for your plasma cutter! This was printed on the Elegoo Saturn

Lmao oof let me just drop $900
Awesome! I've been wanting to do this very thing for so long, it's great to see your finished result! Looks amazing! 👍🏻
Hey thanks!
How does Kickstarter work? If you make a pledge, are you guaranteed the item if the goal is met? If not, do you lose your pledge or is it refunded?
I’m not involved in that in any way.

This is incredible. I was on the fence about backing this scanner, but you've convinced me. Thanks!
Thanks! Hope you make some cool stuff!

Yes, I have a video with the POP 3 here. Very similar quality. I use it frequently.
