Great anecdote at the start, Mark. I love hearing about you and Simon in the pre-channel days, and seeing the two of you actually interacting in the streams (which I watched part of before having to head out for a concert, and then returned to look at your video ... now for the remainder of the stream). This was a very interesting puzzle. I am pretty sure I would have given up had I tried the puzzle but watching you solve it made me see how the letters could be figured out a bit more easily than I might have thought. Not that it was an easy puzzle at all - but it is far from impossible, as you so ably demonstrated!
I finished in 38:35 minutes. This was such a fun puzzle to do with a crazy kind of break-in. My break-in involved ruling 8 out of T through r6c9 and the T cage below it. The even clue was very powerful in ruling out 8. That was so crazy to spot and was my favorite part. I was one second away from beating Mark's time. You win this time. Great Puzzle!
Was able to finish in 39:54 (conflict checker off), not bad after a few glasses of wine! 😄 Some wonderful logic throughout the puzzle, many thanks to Rysmyth for a great puzzle!
27:10 thats only the second or third time I've ever beaten Mark. Now i'm gonna watch his solve and yell at the screen with my newly found sense of self righteous superiority.
I loved the anecdote at the beginning, and have to say that if you'd have asked me beforehand which side of the "correct pencil" debate you were both on, I'd have been correct. As would we all. I speak as someone who has a favourite hob on the stove.
Finished in 41:50. Threw myself off by forgetting letters could have a value of 0 (looking at you, R!), "forcing" the other 19 into r1c8 and eventually breaking column 9. Had to backtrack a fair bit 😞
Made the mistake, that i didn't respect the whole range of possible numbers for the letters. 1 and 9 wanted to be closer than i allowed them to be. 😢 I'm sorry for that.
Honestly I need all the cheating I can use so I guessed the X and Y was the secret to fast track my solve which would otherwise be terribly slow. It worked so thanks to the creator for making it a nice Easter egg
17.50 for me. My god. I could never imagine being able to beat Simon's or Mark's time with so much. I made a lot of pencil marks from the start and was quickly able to exclude lots of alternatives. No need of colouring. Just simple mathematics.
Today I tried solving this one. I made one tiny mistake (assuming Y was 7) that made me give up. Then I looked at Mark's solve and realized that most of my deductions were correct. What a mean puzzle, but at least I had fun with it(unlike yesterday).
I can't imagine not starting by penciling the quad circle cells Also X notable that no letter can ever be 1 26:20 ARGH! It's not 125 because you're looking at an Orange cell
The rules of the puzzle were very misleading... The "R" column has a sandwich sum of 0, which is not possible by the wording of the rules. It should have been worded "from 0 to 45" or specified "between 0 and 45 inclusive of the ends"
I was expecting a hard puzzle because of the letters, but for me wasn't hard at all. Maybe I got lucky finding the right places to look at. I coloured 1 and 9, and did some pencilmarks. My time was 16:39. =)
i struggled an hour to solve this without "predicting" x=4 and y=5, then gave in and was done in like 15 minutes. Will have to watch the video to understand how to prove this
@@aixela3497 are you trolling me? You know "the secret" is 45? The puzzle basically states THE SECRET XY. Not hard to get the idea that 4=X and 5=Y so XY = 45. But to prove it, Mark does it correctly.
Between can absolutely be inclusive and frequently is used as such. If I say "millennials were born between 1981 and 1996", people will interpret that as 1981-1996, not 1982-1995. If I say "I can do between 5 and 10 pullups", I wouldn't expect to be called a liar if I did 5 or 10. And I'm not sure anyone has ever described a Sudoku as "fill in each row, column and box with the numbers between 0 and 10".
8:08 - If 'Y' "WERE" 9, because Mark is talking about a hypothetical. This reminds me of the gender neutral pronoun debate, because this is one of the rare occurrences when the plural form of a word is used to designate a singular meaning.
I love when Mark and Simon add their own little flourishes to the 3-in-the-corner song.
The whole song is too autistic for me.
Fantastic puzzle! Took me several hours but it was an absolute pleasure to solve it!
47:16 - What a brilliant puzzle! Gorgeous logic throughout.

83:05.. I could definitly have done better.. but this puzzle was lovely I thoroughly enjoyed it :)
I didn't even use the fact that I could predict from the start that x was 4 and y was 5 to solve the puzzle.
It's a good job it wasn't required because I didn't even notice after I'd solved it. 😂
Needed a reminder from Mark near the start of the solve but managed to solve the rest solo. Nice puzzle, thanks!
In puzzles like that, can we please have a box below or on side to fill the candidates for letters?
20:30 ... another joy of a sudoku
Nice puzzle!
This puzzleis so so nice! My congratulations to the chef
Loved the anecdote at the start. A bit too tough for me today
Took me 59 minutes, finishing with the 3 in the corner :) very enjoyable puzzle, I loved what XY ended up being
Was able to finish in 39:54 (conflict checker off), not bad after a few glasses of wine! 😄 Some wonderful logic throughout the puzzle, many thanks to Rysmyth for a great puzzle!
What a fantastic puzzle. It was probably a lot easier than I made it but I found the logic entriguing.
The secret and a song to boot. Who could ask for more?
32:29 for me. Very nice puzzle. It was a little intimidating to start, but then I found it fairly straightforward once I got going.
28:10
Really nice interactions particularly with the single cell cages and the sandwiches.
27:10 thats only the second or third time I've ever beaten Mark. Now i'm gonna watch his solve and yell at the screen with my newly found sense of self righteous superiority.
If the video had been even two seconds shorter, that would have been quite apropos. A 45 minute video for the Secret.
Wonderful and funny puzzle.
Slow time for me today, 59:03, but it was a really enjoyable puzzle, where I was always making small observations each step of the way.
finished just under an hour. nice puzzle :)
30:00 exactly for me. Interesting puzzle. I liked it. It'll hold you up in a few places if you're not clever enough to see the path forward.
I loved the anecdote at the beginning, and have to say that if you'd have asked me beforehand which side of the "correct pencil" debate you were both on, I'd have been correct. As would we all. I speak as someone who has a favourite hob on the stove.
22:39 for me. I don’t recall using the rule that the letters have to represent different values. So perhaps that rule is unnecessary.

Oh noes. The title of the puzzle reminded me of a catchy tune. :D
A mol is a unit. Or have you heard? ...

33:28 for me. Wow I struggled with this one. Can't tell if it really was that hard or I overcomplicated it. Great puzzle regardless!!

37:17 Argh! Abandoned the S sandwich just when 1 was going to be placed and then also the 5 in the T cage in box 8.

I've been spoiled -I want Sven to give me boxes to fill in the letters as I solve them

18:01, quite easy and even couple of clues went unused.
42:31 for me. Quite fun.

@@aixela3497 by knowing "the secret"?

Live streaming and uploading at the same time.. Total insanity going on today!
I really hate the way the instructions read- when I saw "between" 0 and 45 I read it as it couldn't be 0
34:41, I ignored the sandwich rule for far too long.
I'm sorry but the 1-9 pair in the R-column felt like cheating.
0 is not BETWEEN 0 and 45.
