As a cataphile, this is one of the better catacombes videos I’ve seen. Not cringey, not trying to turn it into a clickbait horror flick, this is nice 😊
Ahhhh MERCI Camille! That means so much coming from an actual cataphile! I definitely wanted to share my authentic experience with people, and not some dramatized version. I hope you enjoy your next journey down in the Catacombs, and perhaps we'll cross paths down there in the future!
Je ne suis pas descendu depuis pas loin de 30 ans, je suis ravi de voir dans cette vidéo que l'esprit n'a pas changé. Nostalgie quand tu nous tiens.....
WOWWW you did such a great job with this video- fun how you forgot to mention how I almost called the police because I thought you were kidnapped in these tunnels 👹
🤣 sounds like me! I'm paranoid when my husband goes out somewhere new by himself (he works all over the states) and if he doesn't call me in so long I start freaking out 😂 but I'm like that with my siblings too 😭 can't help it!
When you come to the UK remember to go to the Edinburgh tunnels. There is an underground city down there. Reputed to be haunted and it's a historical slice of how we used to live. Not as extensive as Paris but fascinating too.
@Theezakj it was an underground area of the city. It is literally called the city underground by the Edinburg ttourist board but yes as far as size of a city it is not like that you're right. I said it wasn't as extensive but it is fascinating. The vaults under Edinburgh developed around the same time frame of the one in Paris. There was disease spreading across Europe and the poorer members of society were blamed for the ills of society and were driven into an Underground version of the city above. There were some who rarely ventured above ground living their lives mainly down there. It is not as maze like or as mysterious as Paris but it is eerie. It does have a vibe.
I'm actually ashamed that I've never heard of them! (Not that I've delved into the history of Scotland, but in all my spooky-ooky readings, I've never come across it. And frankly, the UK has the best ghost stories!) That's so cool!--Not that such a thing happened obviously, but that a part of they city's history is preserved like that.
@Randi Fountain to be honest I had never heard of them until I was going there and a friend recommended them to visit. It is a real eye opener that places like that existed and as they were inhabited by those that were the poorer sections of society the upper classes kept them hidden. It is worth a visit if you are near there. There is a resident ghost named boots that has heavy footsteps and another of a little girl named Annie by visitors who leave toys for her. Some people say their hands are grabbed by a child.
16:25 i'm not asian or buddhist, but i understand your reaction. i grew up in a culture that almost worships the dead, and even taking a shortcut through city (catholic) cementary makes me feel like i'm commiting grave sin by disrespecting people who rest there. the guide handled your discomfort really well, they had a point. people who died are still with us, in one way or another.
Oooh absolutely, I can totally see how you would relate! Thanks for understanding - and thanks as well for watching!! And yes, the guide articulated it very well!
Aww thank you! I'm glad I could help show you this side of Paris! I truly appreciate it. Thank you for finding it fascinating! I'm really glad you think so!
One of my favorite parts about your videos is how you, and your team, are always so respectful and have done thorough research about the places you visit. You greet every new location with respect and gratitude, and that is something that sets you apart from other creators. Your willingness to put aside your own perceptions, and fully open yourself up to other cultures is how every human should strive to be. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us!
Ahhh thank you for these incredibly kind words, Megan! I'll be sure to pass them along to my team! Thank you so much, it means a lot as I certainly strive to be as open to all cultures and experiences as they come to me. It's my pleasure to share them with you! Thank you for watching and leaving a lovely comment like this!

Didn't know that there's a completely different culture of exploring the catacombs. Thank you for the video, Aria!

I knew about the catacombs but never knew how big they were or tthat there were people who went under there and did all that work with the graffiti and different carvings and rooms and stuff. I'm a bit surprised the government hasn't stopped it all but it's pretty cool
Thank you for being a part of the Discord and for watching this! I'm glad I could show you a bit more of the Catacombs - did you enjoy the tourist experience? It still looks great!
Just reading that first translated email - man, they really wanna feel "cool" 😎 Finished watching, their hosts turned out so nice in contrast to the condescending first contact 😂
Me, I'd have bought the thigh-waders: they could have doubled as fishing gear, and probably be good for some other things, too. In any case, I'd LOVe to see that full equipment list, just for education's sake.
I hope you get to experience it someday! And yes, I understand the concerns of crawling on top of bones - hopefully the perspective the guides provided help assuage those feelings though!
Absolutely brilliant video, new subscriber here that found you because of the catacombes. Desperate to get down there myself. J'adore Paris and this makes me love it even more. Anyone want to accompany me? I'm there most years for the Tour de France but will make a separate trip for this, I just live over the water in London. Let's go! ❤
Thanks so much, Louise! I'm glad to have you as a new subscriber - my apologies for this VERY late reply, I'm only just getting around to responding to comments. That said, I'm grateful to have you here and I hope you'll be able to get down into the Catacombs yourself! Since you live in London, it's definitely an easy journey for you to get to Paris! Even the tourist side of the Catacombs would be incredible to experience.
I’m majorly claustrophobic so I’ll be fine with the most basic/superficial tour of the catacombs. Curiosity can kill this cat who doesn’t have 9 lives.
AHHH bless you Liz! That means a lot! It was already a pain to edit this 26min video, so lord knows how much worse it'd be to edit if it were 10x longer haha - but I'm glad to know you'd watch that!

I knew about the catacombs but never knew how big they were or tthat there were people who went under there and did all that work with the graffiti and different carvings and rooms and stuff. I'm a bit surprised the government hasn't stopped it all but it's pretty cool
et bah tu sais quoi, sah quel plaisir cette vidéo !
SAH QUEL PLAISIR, LOU!!!
Oh man, this would be so cool to experience but my claustrophobia would disallow it.
I totally get it! Fortunately the claustrophobic portions were only for a small percentage of the journey!
This is so cool omg
Thank you! Yes, it was an insanely cool experience!
Wow I'm impressed that they can even bring food and cook down there
Yes I didn't expect them to go all out with food and cooking down there, haha!
Thank you for posting this on Discord! I went through the touristy catacombs years ago and had no idea there was so much more!
Thank you for being a part of the Discord and for watching this! I'm glad I could show you a bit more of the Catacombs - did you enjoy the tourist experience? It still looks great!
@@Aria.Inthavong I did! It was like nothing Id ever seen before. So cool!
Wow very cool. I am glad you shared on Discord.
And I'm glad that you came from Discord! Thanks so much for being a part of the Discord server and then coming here and watching!
This was amazing
Ahhh thank you! You're amazing for watching!
Oh, I would be so claustrophobic going down those, lol
It's TIGHT down there for sure!!
I'm surprised the government just lets random people down there, especially considering how dangerous it could be.
Just reading that first translated email - man, they really wanna feel "cool" 😎
Finished watching, their hosts turned out so nice in contrast to the condescending first contact 😂
Yes! The cataphiles who guided us were A LOT nicer than the ones I initially contacted hahaha. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Denver getting ready for this...🤔
Me, I'd have bought the thigh-waders: they could have doubled as fishing gear, and probably be good for some other things, too.
In any case, I'd LOVe to see that full equipment list, just for education's sake.
Oooh yes, the thigh waders were definitely made for fishing! I'll have to find a way to share the full equipment list on Discord or something, Nick!
“C’est pas bon.”
What a great way to end the video. 😂
I watched most of your travel videos and I'm a little disappointed that you didn't continue..No videos for 1 year in Marseille 😢.
Absolute criminal behavior. Love it!
YAYAYAYA YOU KNOW IT'S KAREN!
5:57 That's how horror movies start
Hahaha truly though!
Considering how much graffiti there is, it seems a pretty easy place to access. I hope people aren't damaging it too much
Quote of the Day: “Nothing is a secret, but always a surprise!” #QuelSurprise
Would love to visit one day. Very interesting. But not the crawling on bones part. Definitely would feel a bit disrespectful
I hope you get to experience it someday! And yes, I understand the concerns of crawling on top of bones - hopefully the perspective the guides provided help assuage those feelings though!
As an archaelogy student i aspire to go there one day
Ooooh that's so cool that you're an archaeology student - I hope you're able to make it there one day as well, Liza!
this is also on my list. only we still have to find a guide.😢
Definitely do it if you're able to find a guide, Steven! It's an incredible experience!!
CataCrêpes sounds so cute! I want one too 😂
P.S. Why am I not surprised you have a ‘treat’?
Aria !!! you have a very beautiful French 👌 impeccable
MERCI MERCI Mermery! And thank you as always for watching and leaving such lovely comments!
You Can still the face of one of the Guides!
Sorry I'm late to reply, but thanks for letting me know, Refa! I think it should be fixed!
I wanna take this video and make it like 10x longer
AHHH bless you Liz! That means a lot! It was already a pain to edit this 26min video, so lord knows how much worse it'd be to edit if it were 10x longer haha - but I'm glad to know you'd watch that!
imagine living in the 1400s then you died and your remains ended up mixed up, unnamed, and trampled in the catacombs...and forgotten
Why is it always a Quarry that’s the most haunted or spooky of them all?
1:44 wow how unnecessarily rude
imagine a person kills someone and puts their bones here and no one will ever find out
closed captionsssssss pls
Sorry it took a couple of days, but they were eventually added! Hope you were able to watch it with them!
20:53 *Streets of Paris
Personally, I hope someone can enjoy my bones long after I'm done with them.
Love your mindset!
@@Aria.Inthavong I've got stunning wreaths of Victorian hairwork and bones of animals I've loved and lost. Come to my funeral if I die first cause everyone's going home with a souvenir! Old parts of us can be so beautiful and powerful.🤎
y’all seen the movie “as above so below”?
like i know they mention it, but if you haven’t you should watch
I thankfully didn't watch it until AFTER I went down to the Catacombs, hahaha! I might have been more scared to go down if I saw it before I went.
