@@mollyesanborn What did you think of A Light for Attracting Attention by The Smile?
Your tier ranking of Radiohead's albums was what introduced me to your channel, that was a fun video! It was nice to see that you also appreciate The King of Limbs 🙂 A lot of fans don't dig it.. I somewhat understand, it's a bit abstract. But I love the whole sound and vibe of that record. I went in with zero expectations, kinda liked it and it really grew on me over time.
And it was nice to see that you also really like A Moon Shaped Pool!! For years, In Rainbows was my favourite album, but now it's probably AMSP. A brilliant record, it's a masterpiece.
I also really liked the album by The Smile, it's so good!

I actually quite enjoyed A Light For Attracting Attention, really anything Thom Yorke is involved with I usually end up liking. I wasn't even aware of The Smile until the end of this year, I'll definitely be keeping my eyes out for future releases from them.

Awesome list I really enjoyed most of your picks and wish I spent more time with some of them. Based on your listening, I’ll recommend a few for you - Darko US-Oni (deathcore with wild modern glitches), Pool Kids-self titled (female vocals, emo, very fun guitar, watery), Arms Length -Never before seen, never again found (emo heart on the sleeve, passionate angst), Brutus- Unison Life (female vocals done by drummer, powerful, cranberries if they were more aggressive,), Birds in Row- Gris Klein (screamo side of post hardcore but for adults, very hard hitting fast paced music with passionate yells), Gospel -The Loser (post hardcore for adults, very exciting, with a horn section), Cave In- Heavy Pendulum (legacy band revived, riff central like Black Sabbath with hardcore edge), Greyhaven- this bright and beautiful world (very chaotic mathcore with grunge influence, FFO Dillinger, ETID), Drug Church- Hygeine (punk at hear over huge grunge guitars and a one of a kind vocalist). These aren’t necessarily my favorite but they are all exciting albums in one way or another and should please an adventurous listener!

I only have one album recommendation:
Polyphia - Remember That You Will Die. Chino features on the song Bloodbath if you haven't heard it yet.
And if you like Polyphia check out Intervals and The Omnific as well.
I don't have a good list of 2022 albums to list, but I have to say I discovered Thornhill this year and went on a big spree of finding more of those Deftones-core type bands to vibe to while at work. I went thru a big pop punk phase, then nu metal nostalgia, then exploring metalcore, then more Deftones' influenced metalcore bands once I started discovering them.
I wanted to recommend some artists that I discovered/dived into more this year (I know most of them didn't release anything in 2022):
Sleep Token. They have heavy Deftones influence with beautiful vocals and heavy breakdowns. Lots of electronic tinge too. My #3 artist this year after discovering them. I found Thornhill after finding them and Spiritbox.
Future Static. I found them this week from ARTV's top 50 songs of the year video. They really blew me away. I think you will like them, they just got a new singer and she sounds AMAZING. Also I love their bassist Kira's tone and clean vocals. They are small, but worth checking out.
Dayseeker. They are also heavy with lots of clean vox. Good collabs with Bilmuri who was my top Spotify artist this year.
Bilmuri. Johnny Franks of Attack Attack's solo project. Has some Deftones influence, but really encompasses every genre.
Bring Me the Horizon. Massive band right? But I never really sat down to listen to them until I read that one of Ollie's biggest influences is Deftones.
Rain Paris. She does metal/rock versions of pop/rap songs. I went on a big metal/pop punk covers binge early in the year. Coming out of 4-5 years of listening to mostly instrumental music lol.
Northlane. Another band I had heard of, but I really dived into their catalog more this year. I think they would have something you enjoy as well.
Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! Pop punk with breakdowns; I think they do it the best
Wage War. Stitch has one of the heaviest breakdowns I've ever heard in my life
Bullet for My Valentine. Tears Don't Fall is a classic
Killswitch Engage. Still love their old stuff
Hope you enjoy some of these. Lots of potential for content.

@@mollyesanborn Their stuff is super intense but strangely emotional and exhilarating in a non-melodramatic way. There isn't much in the way of traditional metal guitar solos with them, it's just primal brutal detuned American folk music with hardcore punk and sludge metal thrown in there for good measure. The members of the band are the most chill and lovely people you will ever listen to who make the most insanely heavy, fun music.

Mastodon are a fantastic case study in the development of their vocals. With their first album they just bark random unintelligible words, self confessed to barely put any thought to their lyrics, then they write a concept record with slightly better vocals. Some 5 albums later they have 3 excellent singers with 3 very distinct voices and some extremely deep lyrics. Talk about an awesome evolution.

Alexisonfire AND Rolo Tomassi?? Hell yeah!
Most of these I actually agree wholeheartedly, but these ones I wasn't really expecting, really nice to see that you already know these two great bands! Where Myths Become Memory is a great album, an enormous record by the band as always, hope you make some reactions of their discography or listen on your own, Eva's vocals are phenomenal and the enormous variety of experimentation and uniqueness, with all the great texturing and jazziness, is honestly pretty bonkers, it's fun as hell. Didn't heard (yet) the new Mars Volta project but the singles made me expect greatness all around.
I'd probably pick False Light by White Ward in place of something else tho, it's a great display of emotion through aggressive sadness.

    • @JUJUJUNO

@@mollyesanborn they're great! Rolo Tomassi has an all around DIY aesthetic and way of doing music, so it is wildly experimental and not at all standard in the early days, Histerics and Astraea being my personal favorites from them! Alexisonfire is also very great, this one got me so excited because it feels like something entirely new in the middle of early 2000s Screamo post-hardcore while still being very recognizable, being always very angry and personal in the vocals, highly recommend both of these.

This year has had some of the best albums I've heard in a long time. The End, So Far by Slipknot, Requiem by Korn, Pain Remains by Lorna Shore, Suffer In Hell by Chelsea Grin, and some others. This year really has been a great year for metal (and music in general), I hope next year will do great too!

Surprised to see rolo on here, theyre unbelievably underrated, but such an amazing band ive been following for a decade now. Still awaiting their US tour lol. Also shocked to see AOF so high up, I thought it was poo, lyrics are just god awful cringe. TMV was one of my tops of the year as well though

Wormrot - Hiss was probably my #1 this year. It's rare to find a grindcore album where every song has its own distinct flavor. Other than that, I couldn't say. No top 10.
