    Hi Ben, you should put the heat mats on the bear areas. Because last time you put them on your old golf green and it grew so much. Reply if you want or say if I’m wrong. Thanks Ben.

    Enjoying your journey thus far, bringing back memories. Your plug and plug holes would benefit from some half mooning. That's were you use the plugger to take half pugs from plugs and healthy turf, turn the plugger half way around creating a half moon shape. Doing that will eliminate the need for reseeding of wash outs and hand water difficulties.

    • @zCasanova
      @zCasanova Год назад

      Can you further explain? No results on google for half mooning plugs.

    FYI There are new varieties of Rye and Tall Fescue out now that are Rhizomatous. Berenbrug has these new grasses that spread. Oak Hill has RTF in the rough at the PGA championship this week.

    Hi Ben my lawns had a Icl sports master granular 9 7 7 feed two weeks ago after a verticut and bio boost and seaweed app , I leave it on no 5 on my Bosch rotary pretty much all season so around 1.5 to 2.0 inch (baranbrug extreme ) would you recommend I do a verticut weekly before mowing to keep stolons and Rhizones trimmed by just tickling the top of the soil after second mow of the week or wound I be better verticut ting it say 1st week of every month till July/Aug when growing slows down . Would like to have your comments on this cheers . Glenn

      I’d recommend a 80-20 or 90-10 if possible. Something that isn’t too fine. Usually some washed pit sand from a landscape yard is great as well

    Hi Ben, if i overseed patches now and frost hits ( in NZ) will the seed be damaged enough not to germinate or will it just take longer to come through?
    Thanks

    • @LawnTips
      @LawnTips  Год назад +1

      I’ve done it in the frost before and it stunts it quite a bit. I never saw any die off but it did take until spring for the plants to mature properly

    Soooooo….
    Fescue greens that need repairing in Tasmania, best to go with seeding and top dressing rather than plugging? Does plugging bare patches ‘encourage’ the growth or is that just a waste of time?

    • @LawnTips
      @LawnTips  Год назад +1

      There is creeping types of fescue sorry. Creeping red is an example. Plugging would work well with a fescue green. Or even regular topdressing and spoon feeding with regular mlwing

    I reseeded 2 weeks ago, some spots are covered with sand, some are covered with soil. Every spot with soil germinated nicely, none of the sanded spots germinated. The sand never became dry. I always checked before watering. What could be the reason?

    • @shaunray6660
      @shaunray6660 Год назад +1

      I had the same issue, my thoughts were the sand was a bit thick and became quite hard with waterings whereas the soil remained loose and the seedlings pushed up through it easier, just a thought i could be wrong maybe the soil held a better heat also

    • @LawnTips
      @LawnTips  Год назад +1

      Would be interesting to see the PH of your sand. It might be way out of whack.
      Sand is always harder though to germinate grass in, I’ve learnt that from past attempts but it’s definitely doable. Seems odd you have no germination though

    • @saiiiiiii1
      @saiiiiiii1 Год назад

      Both interesting ideas. I'll try to get the ph tested. Guess for now I have to scrape off the sand and do the bare spots with soil again.

    Plugging as done here seems to be robbing Peter to pay Paul in a way. It would have made more sense if you had created a nursery area to donate plugs. You were dead unlucky with that washing, it's been a PITA for you the whole way hasn't it.

    • @LawnTips
      @LawnTips  Год назад +1

      Nursery would be great for sure.
      Luckily where I took the plugs from it gets sun all day and doesn’t wash so it’s he best place to take them from.
