I used a Duncan Hines Moist Deluxe Cake mix, and as you said followed the directions on the box and added a little cinnamon. My glass bowl wouldn't fit into my microwave, but the mix was already prepared. I used a rectangular plastic Rubbermaid container, oiled it well, and added a cup and a half of batter to it. I placed in in the microwave as you showed (not in the center) and cooked it on high for 1min 35sec. The cake was perfect. Thank you for this video.
just mixed AND cooked a carrot cake from mix in my microwave pasta boat! Thanks for the time estimate. I have a 1000 watt microwave. Cooked for 8:30. Knife inserted still a little liquidy at the very bottom, so put back for another 2:00, and perfecto!!! This is awesome!
Just made mine tonight. I baked it in the micro about 8 minutes. When I put it on the wire rack the bottom was still runny. Just put it back in the dish and popped it back in the microwave another 3 minutes. It is so yummy.
I am definitely going to try this today! And I really adore the person in the background promoting you while you talk! Gives me an image of a highly supportive n loving man 😇
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it. I just want to make the best videos I can. I watch some channels where I find myself fast forwarding through the intro as well, so I thought I would get rid of mine and see how I felt about it. Truth be told, I don't miss it at all and I figure not too many others do either because hardly anyone has said anything about it!
I make individual servings of cake that way all the time and I always wonder how a whole cake would turn out and you did a wonderful tutorial to show that it can be done. Thanks
New to me. Never had a need for this idea until I lost the use of my oven. Thanks for the advice. Especially the part about adding brewed coffee to the chocolate cake mix.
It's definitely something to quickly satisfy a sweet tooth. It still amazes me when I do make them. You just get to watch it rise in the microwave and my kids love watching it too! :)
Thanks for a great idea. I've watched so many of your videos that I feel like part of the family. I really respect and smile at the relationship that you have with your dear husband.
I am so glad that I found this video. My oven has been down since Thanksgiving 2013 and today is Jan. 6, 2014. Our craving for cake and cookies has been out of control. Tonight I am making a cake in the microwave!! Thank you!
Noreen, I made the recipe today, for the microwave cake, accordingly to the video...It turned out wonderful...though it was a tiny bit wet in the center of the bottom, I just set the plate back in the microwave for 2... ..30min increments..I later heated about fourth cup of store bought frosting and used it for glaze, drizzled over the top! Thank you for the video, recipe!
Thank you Noreen! I was wondering how to bake a cake with microwave since I dont have oven. Your video helps alot. Thank you again. I definitely will try this
Actually I can save you the trouble. I had a total fail by adding mini chocolate chips. The microwave cooks them much faster than the oven, so instead of the candy melting into the batter, it actually turns into rock like nuggets. Sorry to disappoint. The answer would be to make the cake plain and then fancy up the frosting. You can even split the cake into two layers and then make a quick buttercream and chop up the candy bar into that and sprinkle on top as well. Hope that helps!
See this is what I love about you! It's not just about cooking, love short cuts, love Rick's point about not heating up the house..you can use wide mouth mason jars, coffee cups, and I have to say it cupcake molds...AND LOVE the idea of coffee rather than water! OMG!!! you rock!
Noreen I swear there is not a thing you can't do. You're so resourceful and a genius!!! I will be trying this one for sure. BTW "Oh how I wish you were my neighbor". Love your videos , you and Rick are the sweetest couple, the love really shows. Blessings, Anna
It is "normal" cake the only difference is that it is cooked in the microwave and not in the oven. There really isn't anything different about it. Give it a try. What do you have to lose but a cake mix and a few eggs and some oil. Not a big deal. Just go for it!
My oven went out a couple of days ago and twice I was going to use my oven and then remembered UH NOPE that wasn't going to happen. Well the second time was today when I wanted to bake a cake and remembered NOPE that wasn't happening so that is why I searched and found that Noreen of course Noreen would have a video in making a boxed cake mix in the microwave!!! WOOHOO!! I know I can make one in my Instant Pot now too!!! I am so excited that I can make my cake today in the microwave!! WOOHOO!!! WHO KNEW!!! Well, Maureen knew!! LOL Thank You Maureen!!!
A long time ago I, use to make a Chocolate manoise cake in the microwave, I can't find the cake any wear.it was so good and moist. sorry if I missed spelled word' but I tired.
Mom always would "fiddle" with the flavors of the mix a little too, like a few more drops of vanilla, use cold coffee or such. A neighbor did an "accident" that was really good when trying to use that tip. She got the black walnut flavor by mistake into a chocolate cake, and that was yummy.
I happen to have the very same dish you have so had to try this out. I had a Dunkin Hines carrot cake in the cupboard, so got it out. I missed the ingrediance as it tells you to and sprayed the cookware real good with a buttery spray. It took my Microwave 10 mins to cook it all the way, but it was easy to get out, and looked great. I cut a piece and it still looked great. I always have these things on hand as I live 17 miles from town. It was perhaps better then normal oven baking. THanks! I didn't think cake Co's had this down, though it would be WAY over due. I wonder if they know how good it is? They should have it on their package. 15 Minutes from start to finish, even washed the dishes!
You are a goddess! My oven has decided it doesn't want to work this summer. I have a small toaster oven but it's too small for a cake. Dump cake is one of our favorites so I'm going to give it a try in the microwave, too. Like you said, what do I have to lose? I can always throw some in the toaster over if it doesn't work out in the mic. Thank you!
I can't believe it!!! Years and years making cakes in the oven and I always burn them from the bottom, watching them every minute, using a toothpick.... and this just take 8:30 minutes.. Omg. I MUST try it.
Don't get me wrong, I love my theme music, it's just that things change and I am getting some guidance on how to optimize my channel and that was one of the suggested changes. I did not want to do it, but after considering things, I decided to give it a try. That is not to say it may make an appearance later. My holiday videos will still have a musical introduction, however it may be shorter than before.
Love this and i had white frosting so i added instant coffee to frosting and it was so yummy on my choc cake my mom used to do that thanks for the tips
That looks really good like I've got some silicone dishes and stuff for cakes but I don't really like to fool with the oven cuz it seems like the oven takes forever to make it
i Have to try this! since our oven died i have no way to bake my kids cake, especially on their birthdays and those store bought ones from the bakery are horribly expensive, we paid $45 for one and i said id never do it again, ty for posting this
Thanks! This is a home kitchen. We actually do live here and eat what we cook. No studio. Just using what we have to the best of our abilities to help you.
One n only honest video,i tried making cake in microwave so many times and gets the same results,un even cake and broken and jigly, while in videos i see perfect sponge cake
This looks really delicious Noreen. Not to long ago the cake mixes were on sale at the local grocer...so regret not getting :( Anyway what a greattttttt idea!!!
Looks great and I bet the coffee added great intense chocolate flavor. Curious what the texture was like the following day(s). Was it the same as the day you baked it or was it a little tough or rubbery?
This is a great discovery… I love it. One question I have: 1) do you happen to know how many watts your microwave was? Thank you for sharing this amazing idea!!
Noreen, thank you for this. We have an RV, and I am so excited to try this in there. Sometimes it is raining and the sun oven will not do. (You have probably heard how badly the RV ovens actually work). This will save our sweet tooth(s). My husband and I thank you, however my waistline may not! Ha

Just make sure you use the Duncan Hines mix. That is the only on I ever use for anything. Also don't add pudding or anything extra, just use the box instructions. Not all flavors yield the same results as this chocolate cake. I have done white, yellow and spice cakes only with good results as well as the chocolate.
This was a Duncan Hines with pudding in the mix. It came out OK. Didn't add anything to it. Couldn't find my guide books for either my NuWave oven or my microwave...so I was in a panic. So thanks again!
Duncan Hines does not make cake mix with pudding in it. Only Betty Crocker and Pillsbury do that. So you must have had one of those other mixes. I only use Duncan Hines because it is quality. Noreen's Kitchen I'm homebound and my husband does all the shopping. That is the cake mix he picked out. I usually also pick the Betty Crocker cake mixes, back when I was able to do the shopping. Will have to check the ingredients one of these days. It's rare for us to bake cakes. And I usually make them from scratch. I have a devine strawberry cake and a chocolate fudge that are to die for. All natural ingredients. Thanks for replying and giving me the heads up on Duncan Hines.
Love dishes you can make in the summer with less heat. I wonder if my box of Red Velvet cake would work. I would love to see home made meals for the microwave as well. TFS
I am amazed at how the cake turned out! I've known about the "cake in a mug" baking in microwave but to do a big cake, that is too awesome :D Thanks sooooooo much for showing us the "how to"! I am wondering if it will still turn out this good without the egg (I use applesauce to replace it in my baking) :)

I just tried it, the microwave cooked the cake just fine...I enjoyed a piece already! Thanks for the tip, it's way too hot to turn on the oven.
This was my first time ever seeing something actually "bake" a cake in a microwave. I'm very intrigued, & will definitely try this. Thanks
It's definitely something to quickly satisfy a sweet tooth. It still amazes me when I do make them. You just get to watch it rise in the microwave and my kids love watching it too! :)
Noreen, You rock. This cake in the micowave idea is great in the summer. It doesn't heat up the house.
thanks this saved my day, my sister's birthday is coming but we are in quarantine, now I can make her a simple birthday cake !!
Did the cake turn hard quickly? Like when you microwave bread.
@@marian.8550 Hi, it always turned hard for me.
My 5th attempt was ok because i didn't overbeat. Don't overbeat your batter and things will be fine.
