I enjoyed this video. I think though that the writers gave in to those fans who were upset that Lucas was chosen by Elizabeth and not Nathan. Now they are correcting that. Brian basically said that on another podcast It makes me feel that Lucas fan’s disappointment is not as important. We need to understand and deal with it. In the process of this storyline change the writers have managed to make Nathan and Elizabeth unlikeable They treated Lucas poorly and were not good friends to him. I’m not interested in watching their story next season. I’ll watch for the other characters and fast forward over them.
No, that is not the case. Story narratives are not based on pleasing certain factions. They create stories that are compelling and that can carry the show forward for years to come. We will see where this new direction takes us but know that twists and turns will always be in the cards.
How did Nathan treat Lucas poorly? He was always respectful to him. He went along with his plan when the governor came to town. They had a nice conversation about the newspapers and gave a donation, and told Elizabeth she should be proud of him. He even avoided Elizabeth for weeks after Lucas left town. Nathan has always been a good friend.

The only other season-ending cliffhanger I can recall is Season 2, when Charles showed up and proposed to Elizabeth right before Jack showed up to do the same. The other seasons all ended normally. The only other cliffhanger I can remember at all was the penultimate episode of Season 5, when we found out Jack had died, fade to black. But at least we had the next week to resolve that, and the season overall ended on a high note with Elizabeth discovering she was pregnant. Are there other season-ending cliffhangers that I'm forgetting?
When I was a little girl, my dad used to say, “it’s just pretend, sug.” I loved so much about these last episodes. It has been emotional, funny, and had spiritual tones. I think it was done so well.
I so loved season 10! Would have loved to see a bit more between Nathan and Elizabeth, but it was still great! I loved to see Henry become Goldies godfather! I am hoping Abagail is returning!
@@joycegaskill3143 um, Goldie was born, Mike and Mei, Fiona was fantastic with the radio, Joseph understanding what he needs to do with his life, and so many other small moments. This was a fantastic season.
Same this was such a good season. I'm looking forward to see where the journey goes for Nathan and Elizabeth. I'm excited to see what else Lindsay comes up with. She seems like a very kind person and wants to help do great storylines.
@@joycegaskill3143 Rosemary finding her mother’s letters and learning she was really loved; the beginning of Mike and Mei’s relationship; Bill’s apparent healing from the springs; Jamie learning what it’s like to have friends; Lucas finding his calling, Nathan getting a medal.
Mike & Mei will probably break up before season 11 just like Nathan & Faith .which we didn’t see they just told us.Lucas had found his calling to be in Hope Valley & start a family .That’s what he told E more than once. And the medal for what ??that was a comedy with Nathan. He didn’t look worried to me & Bill came to save him.And come speech time ,he’s like a nervous little kid.
The only thing I don’t understand is Brian and Lindsay have tended to give Lucas fans false hope in a way by saying it’s just a friendly thing going on for Elizabeth & Nathan. Saying things like “pure friendship” and “he’s a protector”, but Faith even told him that something was missing and that they both knew that (we know what she meant), and Elizabeth said she made the safe choice this whole time. I’m hoping they clear this up next season. I’m glad Marg said Erin was more forthcoming in her interview. Brian has even told viewers to watch Erin’s interview so he knows something is emerging with those two and is on board with it. I don’t understand trying to hide that, we all know. Not upset or anything, just something I noticed.
Yes, this is what we referenced when we talked about our own realizations doing Heart to Hearties. The writers and directors we spoke to repeatedly said Nathan and Elizabeth were friends. And at this point, that is how these creators believe these characters see themselves. They may have romantic feelings they can’t yet acknowledge, for propriety’s sake or because they’re scared/processing it all. So we take them at their word. Friendship is a great foundation for a love story and Erin hinted that is where they are headed.
Please give Lucas the love story he deserves. Please give interesting storylines for both Faith and Fiona. If you see this show as an ensemble cast, please pay attention to some of the characters who fade into the background.
They may have a good reason for that. For example, Andrea was pregnant, so the last half of the season it would be difficult to hide it. I'm sure next season they will have bigger roles.
@@joycegaskill3143 I agree. Unfortunately with such a large ensemble, I think they have to focus on some more than others depending on the storyline. This year Mike got a lot more screen time than he usually does. I'm thinking next season Fiona may have a romance with a newly single governor. 😏
Why did you break Lucas and Elizabeth up? Lucas was so patient and caring. Nathan, on the other hand, kept crossing boundaries multiple times. In season 8, when Elizabeth told him she didn’t want to hear what he had to say because she knew he was going to confess his feelings. He ignored her wishes and blurted out “I love you.” This season, after multiple failed courtships. Nathan confides in Elizabeth about his horrible love life. I think that’s horrible of him to confide in someone who rejected him. What kind of position would that put Elizabeth in? Couldn’t he confide in his MALE best friend, Bill?
Thank you for this interview! Such a great conversation. I was really heartbroken after Elizabeth and Lucas ended it. I was even decided not to watch the show anymore. But after watching this, I think I want to know what happens next!
Here is what I would like to see happen and what could happen based on the current line. HOWEVER , getting what I want does not always happen. With Lucas injured Elizabeth realizes her love of Lucas is strong. They can evolve for now into a strong distance relationship. Nathan and Bill are friends to both. Sorry, Nathan is a wonderful character. Handsome, decent. That doesn't mean he should be Elizabeths life partner. I think what has upset many of us is that the triangle pulls the character of Elizabeth down. In every other thread she is strong and constant. Going back and forth between men is out of character and not only wrong for her but wrong for Hope Valley.I'm ok with no wedding. That would have been an end point. I say that not because I don't love them together but because it leaves them no where to go in the story other than the same old stale progressions. There are ways to continue with these characters that allows them to move forward in a mature way. Yes, they said there will be a wedding but lets not assume it will be Elizabeths!
@@lucyrosinina5505 Henry and Abigail? Mike and Mei? Maybe Carson will come back for Faith, Bill and that hussy that almost scammed his property? Lots of possibilities!
@lucyrosinina5505 Agree! Give some of the other characters a chance to shine. Again, I truly like Nathan but I just don't feel than an N & E show is the right direction. But...what I think and feel matters not.
If I had to pick one thing from this amazing "Heart to Hearties" chat that helped line the ducks of Season 10 in a row for me, it would be the compelling observation that, unlike movies that are usually one and out, tv series do not - CANNOT - have an end game. Their very purpose is to stay on air for as long as possible. In order to do that, as so eloquently stated by both Lindsay and Brian, the creative team must be willing and able to be flexible enough to let it evolve as it goes forward. That was masterfully accomplished, imo, by the writing team this season. So many nuances and such masterfully crafted conversations between leads and supporting characters, masterfully delivered by the gifted actors, that brought all the pieces together and let the characters grow into the best they can be. To realize their maximum potential and to be courageous enough to make the changes and sacrifices that it takes to do so. Thank you for bringing this wonderful show to us hearties - both the chat and WCTH itself. And Brian - thanks for giving us the " wedding carrot" for Season 11. Keep up the great work all! Looking forward to another decade of our beloved When Calls the Heart.
Thank you for all your work on this lovely show. I enjoyed season 10 so much. I am excited for the future of everyone in Hope Valley. Thank you again. Beautiful work!
Enjoyed the discussion immensely, and I thought Brian's take on the Elizabeth and Nathan story this season was very succinct, but if I had been allowed a follow up question, I would have asked both why the writers baled on Nathan's romantic journey so early if he was just going to be a good friend to Elizabeth.
From what we gather, these two have now established a deep friendship, from which romantic feelings may emerge. Likely the answers you seek are coming in season 11.
Wait a minute 😮are they telling us she is not going to start a relationship with Nathan ? Seriously ? I thought there would be a wedding that we have been waiting a long time for but we get a break up and then questionable future? If that’s so, I am very disappointed. Wow! I hope that’s not the case or I could be moving on.
@melissapage2387 we aren’t sure what you heard but our creative team said to tune in to see. Erin Krakow went so far as to suggest in her ET interview that yes, some feelings are emerging between Nathan & Elizabeth.
I will try to remain hopeful. With all the other shows on different networks that play with our emotions as viewers with break ups and crazy plots, When calls the Heart was my safe place with sweet romance. I just don’t want to loose that. Then this series becomes like everything else 😢.
Dawn loved your question about definitive statements and too bad it could not have been answered as I believe…definitive statements shouldn’t be made. Lol.
Loved Season 10 as well as Seasons 1-9! So glad to know there will be a Season 11 to let this story continue. I noticed there was nothing between Robert and Allie in Season 10. Will we see them maybe beginning a love story in Season 11? I fully expected Fiona and Mike to become a couple from their interactions in previous seasons, now out of the blue Mike has feeling for Mei. I don’t remember seeing them say it would be better as friends like Mike’s comment said. Can’t wait to see where season 11 goes! All the actors are a class act!! Thanks for making a family show where there are no profanity, violence or sex scenes! Appreciate the writers keeping it family friendly and interesting. It just proves you don’t need any of that to have an amazing show. In fact, it is just the opposite. People want good family programming! Thanks for making it. Hoping Abigail comes back and her and Henry start a love story. Henry is a changed man and hope she can see that. Hope Valley is named well. We all need a little Hope in these trying times. We miss the Christmas specials! Is 12 episodes possible WITH a Christmas special in Season 11?
Love anything and everything by Brian Bird. Season 10 had some amazing acting. Pascale and Erin knocked it out of the park. The restoration story of Henry is awesome. It was hard to see the Elizabeth story be so confusing. If we the viewers had seen her visiting Jack's grave all during the last 3 seasons.....it would have made more sense for her to break things off with Lucas. It doesn't make sense at the maturity level that Elizabeth had been written....that she would be so confused about her feelings. But I am allll for Fiona and Lucas! @@officialheartiesadmins2118 except the kids think Lucas left Elizabeth. She didn't bother to explain he wasn't the one who dumped her & he is saving Hope Valley for them. The kids should have been told. The whole town is all for Elizabeth but there would be no town without his sacrifice.
@@joycegaskill3143 People do end engagements. It’s not anyone’s “fault.” We think Elizabeth “showed” rather than told the kids how good of a man he is, throwing her complete support behind Lucas’ candidacy.
My money is on Mike and Mei getting married in season 11. They are the cutest couple in Hope Valley!
Love them
I’m thinking a wedding between Bill and Madeleine.
I just want to say thank you admins for all you do for hearties. I’ve been a fan of WCTH since first the movie then followed by the series from season 1 to infinity! Thank you for bringing all this to us! 💞
We are grateful for your devotion. And love bring a conduit of your questions.
How can I be part of the Hearties Community. I have been watching since the season 1. I have been a huge fan of Janette Oke books. Season 10 for me was a bit hard to swallow. I am so glad that I was able to watch this video to have a better understanding as to the Why's to the changes. Thank you so much!
Love to have you join our Hearties Official FB group. m.facebook.com/groups/544632748969161/?ref=share&mibextid=S66gvF You can follow the official Instagram at wcth_tv. Our reunion info & much more are available there. ❤
Nathan é Elizabeth lindos juntos
The only other season-ending cliffhanger I can recall is Season 2, when Charles showed up and proposed to Elizabeth right before Jack showed up to do the same. The other seasons all ended normally. The only other cliffhanger I can remember at all was the penultimate episode of Season 5, when we found out Jack had died, fade to black. But at least we had the next week to resolve that, and the season overall ended on a high note with Elizabeth discovering she was pregnant. Are there other season-ending cliffhangers that I'm forgetting?
It was ridiculous!
I loved this season too. There were so many good storylines!
@@ellyc87 they have hidden her pregnancy before. What about Fiona. She was a strong character reduced to a matchmaker.
@@joycegaskill3143 I agree. Unfortunately with such a large ensemble, I think they have to focus on some more than others depending on the storyline. This year Mike got a lot more screen time than he usually does. I'm thinking next season Fiona may have a romance with a newly single governor. 😏
@@ellyc87 yes I hope Lucas gets together with Fiona. I think she is perfect for him.
@@joycegaskill3143
Me too ,I would be so thrilled with that
Why did you break Lucas and Elizabeth up? Lucas was so patient and caring. Nathan, on the other hand, kept crossing boundaries multiple times. In season 8, when Elizabeth told him she didn’t want to hear what he had to say because she knew he was going to confess his feelings. He ignored her wishes and blurted out “I love you.” This season, after multiple failed courtships. Nathan confides in Elizabeth about his horrible love life. I think that’s horrible of him to confide in someone who rejected him. What kind of position would that put Elizabeth in? Couldn’t he confide in his MALE best friend, Bill?
Exactly I agree with you.this show took so many wrong turns this season.
I want to see Fiona find love in Hope Valley . If it means we will see less if her, then I would rather have her marry Henry 😂
Who could it be
@@lucyrosinina5505 Henry and Abigail? Mike and Mei? Maybe Carson will come back for Faith, Bill and that hussy that almost scammed his property? Lots of possibilities!
My first thought was that the wedding was Mike and Mei
I would like Mike & Mei
It better not be Nathan & Elizabeth
Yes!!! Thanks for picking up on that takeaway. We can’t compare a Hallmark series to Hallmark movies, expecting an endgame.
No but it doesn’t have to be turned into a heartless soap opera.
Thank you for all your work on this lovely show. I enjoyed season 10 so much. I am excited for the future of everyone in Hope Valley. Thank you again. Beautiful work!
🛑🛑🛑🛑Nathan belongs with Elizabeth that’s why he can’t date anybody else his heart is for Elizabeth…
They even dress alike sometimes. lol. Keep up the good work.
