I believe this is the prime example of the effects covid had on hasbro’s design and production process. I don’t believe all of this was caused by laziness.
@@zebra8961 which means this was being designed around the time covid broke out and lockdowns started. Also notice the huge difference in design ingenuity between wave 1/2 VS wave 3 of kingdom. Production was halted for a while, they had to meet a deadline and we got what we got.
So whats the next vs vs vs?
Well I don't necessarily blame most of this on laziness. Like the Robot mode is just a HYPER uninspired design, but there's a dozen possible reasons for that, ranging from an burned out designer, to soemone who didn't have good ideas in the first place.
But the Neck and the Deck guns are laziness. There's next to no effort that is required of figuring out a hinge, or how to make separate components swivel.

As much as Vigilum being the ark is a cool idea the main issue is that the ark is always perceived as being built by the auto it’s during the war meaning that if they wanted to make the ark Vigilum that meant that the autobots turned their ship into a decepticon on purpose and that makes no sense.
It might have worked here since Teletran-1 saw multiple alternate futures and he could’ve saw one where he had a design based on Vigilum, sure we lose the aspect of his lord but he still gets a figure plus he looks cooler
No no, my idea is not that they turned their ship into him, but they captured him and just forced him into ship mode so they could use him for their escape.
It'd be pretty similar to what happened with him in IDW when they pretended he was Carcer.
Mainframe was actually an already existing character.
He was an action master who's bio stated that he's a computer geek.
So not just giving him an alt mode, but making it Teletran-1 was a stroke of genius.

I like the Ark. I agree with you on the Ark’s articulation. An annoying thing for me is the transforming joint in the shoulders could’ve doubled as butterfly joints. Easily.

@@PerspectiveEnd My original order has still yet to arrive. So, I went ahead and ordered yet another one from Amazon. Ive applied all my planned upgrades, and I've got to say. *This thing is awful*
I used to work in a pipe factory, I'm familure with these kinds of plastic, it's not made to last in the slightest. If you freeze this nose-cone/shroud, then thaw it out quickly, I'll crack and crunble.
The ratchet joints are by far to stiff, given the weight of the figure and this kind of plastic, it'll fail in less than a year if it isn't cared for with certain chemicals.
If I had to guess, this thing was made out of at least 3 different kinds of plastic and some of it is defiantly recycled.
I'm selling this thing off as fast as I can.
I love this figure, and the fact that it comes with two golden discs, sky spy, mainframe / Tellatran1 and has the face of the last autobot.

5:03 Funny how 70,000+ copies sold was considered "low sales" in the early 90s. Today, that would have been a hit (although I do agree about The Last Autobot being too obscure of a character to make such a large figure of).
Yeah well there were extenuating factors involved in that like the speculator bubble where everyone was buying 10 of the same comic to resell it later for a million dollars each because that's how that works.

Great review PerspectiveEnd!!!!!!!! I do not regret getting the Ark and adding it to my collection. Now I just have to find the Cyberverse Optimus Prime figure with the Ark armor, so I can use that as the escape shuttle the Maximals use at the end of the Beast Wars series. :D Keep on being amazing.

Yeah, even tho I like him, I agree with most of your point. In my opinion, he is the weakest from all of the titan class from the War For Cybertron Trilogy. Scorponok is still my favorite almost, I mean almost defeated by Omega Supreme. Probably because I like Decepticon more than Autobot, LOL. Anyway, great review.

I would have liked to have gotten this but it’s just too expensive for me. The only Ark I have is the DOTM version which was an amazing toy. I truly feel like this ark should have been based off of that one. With the all the features you had mentioned like it owning up into different parts. I was able to let my imagination just absolutely run wild with that Ark figure and it was just so much fun. Especially playing with my Kreo figures as they fit perfectly.
Yeah that thing did seem interesting, and probably better than this.
I'd consider myself lucky to still have found this figure at retail for $250. Yeah, $250. Almost double what it originally went on sale for, but what can you expect, I'm Canadian.
I find myself agreeing with most of what you say here, but at the same time I find myself enjoying the figure very much, both in robot mode and in ARK mode.
I believe Mainframe blocking the chest panel from plugging in is actually a QC issue on your end, I'm able to close up the chest with mainframe inside and have it close all the way it usually does. Or who knows, maybe I somehow got a QC issue that improved the figure.
Btw fun fact: mainframe's name is actually a reference to the animators for beast wars

I am aware of that. Mainframe are Patron Saints of the transformers as far as I'm concerned.
4:15 ...I just realized...we should've gotten a transforming axalon and darksyde titan class figured for kingdom. How amazing would have that been? Huge missed opportunity...😢

I actually really like him i love both modes and find him incredibly fun to transform wich is something Ive never said about any previous titan classes main frame is fun the accessories are fun and actually truly love his head its so unique and creative.
I don't see the head as being that creative, but I fully understand that people are going to tend to like the look more than me.
The Transformation is pretty good, but I will say that I enjoy Omega's more, which is shocking cause it's such a heavy partsformer.
I think this is worth getting but for me it's just for the altmode.

I wasn't shock by Kingdom titan class Ark, the photos and early reviews of the big guy gave me the info I need to say yes, it's on my to get list. I was mostly glad to finally have it. As this is my second titan class figure. Frist is the Decepticon Scorponok. Omega Supreme, I missed out. But it's cool. I honestly thought that Mainframe was going to be a modulator to be Teletraan 1.
I'm glad Mainframe didn't do that. I worry I was a bit too harsh on this thing. I just find it so ugly that's all I could talk about with the robot mode.
I was on BBTS awhile ago and DNA designs has an upgrade kite that main fills in the gaps and replaces the hands

Managed to get Mainframe on his own for £50 (a lot but I'm not mad cause at least I don't have to find storage for 20 inches of unwanted Ark) and I am eternally grateful.

Well as I only have two Titans they are the only two I can Recommend. Omega Supreme is just great, so much better than I expected, and this in it's ark mode is a ton of fun, but the robot kind of sucks.
I'm pretty sure that the Ark toy was actually designed to look like the design from the show, so this is why a bunch of the ark on the ark is scenes from the show.
The ark was in the show for five seconds. I think it's safe to say they did not base this on the show, especially when it's such a simplified toy design.

I've been complaining that it's not Vigilem for a long time now. I think since my first video on the Kingdom Artwork. I think I said that I hoped it turned out to be Vigilem.

I get your point with the head being obscure, but it looks interesting, it gives me vibes of the Mata Nui Robot from Bionicle, the face of an ancient and wise monolithic being
I am unfamiliar with Mata Nui so that does not work for me.
Two ideas to make the ark better
1. move it to legacy so you have an excuse to make it omega supreme from animated
or 2. don't make it a transforming ark, just make it a playset or multiple that can connect together for your core class figures, I mean it's just a smart move to give the advantage of the small size being able to actually have playsets, like the 2011 cyberverse line, I mean they might as well also make autobot city from the 86 movie since we're also getting core class figures from that
I don't know that it being Omega Supreme just would make this mold better.
2 would have probably been the better choice.

This is like a core class transformation when it comes to transformation. When we see what haslab did with unicron (even though that is a far more expensive figure) its clear they could of done much better but they simply didn't want to

This is the part where I tell you I literally don’t own hard copy’s of the old marvel comics EXCEPT the last four issues.
Of course there are a few people who read the last few issues, but those are dwarfed by the people who stopped before the last few, who are dwarfed by the people who never read any.

I believe I used to own the Star Wars crossover Darth Vader figure when I was younger, when I used to actually fully live at my grandparents house, but I sold it when I was 6-7 years old. Are old neighbor bought it from me who sadly just passed away.

I've mentioned many times that I really don't like the Chins in Animated, and I've mentioned that I'm bored by the prime designs, but there are good things to like about the Animated ones, that under just a little revision could be made great, and RID was Ok, but even as a kid the aesthetic of that one didn't quite grab me.
I will tell you that I LOVE the IDW look. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT.

I keep seeing people's Mainframes arms come off easily but My Copys arms stay on really good. It takes a bit of force for my copys arms to come off.

The Ark it self is cool and good fun, the robot mode is hideous but that may just be a me thing.

Kinda sorta unrelated to the video but some of the comments got me wondering so just out of curiosity have you ever heard of bionicle and if so what do you think of it?
I had 3 Bionicle figures growing up, and I think I watched the first two or three movies, but I've basically NO memory of them.

Then the front panels that would clip to the sides fell off if you looked at them wrong
His right shoulder was so tight it stressed the plastic a bit
And skyspys 5mm port for some reason was bigger than 5mm so it constantly fell any peg it went on...
It was fun to mess with, but with the issues it had i honestly felt that the one I ended up returning was not worth 180$
So you know how the Optimus prime that goes with the arcs bridge in the ship food? Mine broke, but imagine how cool it would be if someone made a little 3-D printed versions of the other Autobots that are compatible with the ark

The disks were molded after disks we sent out to space. Both of them say sounds of earth on the back, but the show was different. So they aren't show accurate but they are accurate to the real disks
I am aware that the First disk is based on the golden disk, but the second disk isn't. Neither in the show or real life. The other Golden disk on the Voyager Probes does not have alien markings all over the back.

The Ark was my first ever Titan class figure, and tbh? I don't think I could've started at a better place. I'll fully admit, I don't think it's perfect. But god damn do I love it. This was number 4 in my top 10 of the year. Everything about it. His somber, tired face, giving off the vibe of a bot so old that it doesn't want to fight. The lanky yet bulky proportions. The massive limbs made of big chunks of ship. The transformation. And, of course, the Ark mode. Literally the best part of this thing. It literally inspires awe. It sparks my imagination. The day I got this thing, I wrote out an entire history of the ship and the character. All the little details, the little gun turrets, the massive engines, the bridges. All of it just inspires me. Then, of course, I'm a big fan of mainframe. Sure, I wish his arms could sit more naturally, but whatever. I love this guy so god damn much
Btw, do you know how widespread the issue of the center of the ark not pegging together is? Mine doesn't peg together either

I feel like despite all this guy’s flaws, I’m still gonna really enjoy this set. It’s got an Ark, a Teletraan terminal, and both of the Golden Disks(albeit a semi-inaccurate Alien Disk).
All of that being said, will this guy included in your wave 3 what’s-the-best vid, and if so, would he have been given a higher score if it was Vigilem instead of Autonomous Maximus?
I mean I did end up recommending the thing, and if it had a different head one of its ugliest flaws would be gone. So it's hard to say really.
And that's the question. Does this count as a Wave three figure? I'll have to think about that.
Ok when I saw this first I thought it was kinda stupid but one thing I wanted was a non transforming ark to fit figures inside

The good news is that if you don't transform it like I plan to pretty much not after this point. Then it becomes a non Transforming figure.
Besides all your gripes with the robot mode, another I had was how it felt like its' style was completely different from the rest of the toys of the line.
Yeah it doesn't match up with a lot of the rest of the line.
The bot mode probably took inspiration from the Cyberverse Optimus that has the Ark as armor. Its ugly as sin and i personally skipped on all Cyberverse figures except the deluxes, but I've veered too off course. Ugly robot mode, i personally like The Arks bot mode because its weird and it has a certain charm to me. I do see why people don't like it though.
Everything else though, i love without question. Mainframe is a solid Teletran, i didn't bother with the cardboard netflix one. Mostly due to me not wanting to rebuy most figures i already owned. The Golden Disc goes wonderfully with Dinobot which made me rewatch Code of Hero.
Out of curiosity, do you have plans to look at either of the Battle Across Time packs? Or are those a hard pass for you?
That'd be a weird dumb place for them to have taken inspiration.

The Battle Across time Packs, those would be the Buzzworthy two packs right. No I've got no interest in those.
@@PerspectiveEnd the battle across time packs are the Amazon and Pulse ones that have Earth mode Sideswipe and Maximal Skywarp for one and Earth Mirage and Maximal Grimlock for the other.
Skywarp is a repaint/remold of Airazor into an Eagle while Grimlock is a repaint/remold of Dinobot. Personally I'm a fan, but they're not everyones cup of tea
I have all the marvel transformers comics including generation 2. I would keep him in his ark form. After all these years I still can't believe it was destroyed in the 3rd season of the animated series.

thinking of getting this guy just to display him in alt mode, on some sort of suspension system or flight stand. Worst case scenario I can just sit it upright behind some other figures or titan classes. I like the idea of going for new characters, but this guy just isnt my cup of tea. Hope there will be a nemesis at some point.
The Ship mode is great, and the landing gear do stand him up tall enough that you might not need those things, but man a flight stand would need to be BEAFY to hold this thing up.

It feels that way too. If you want an Ark I recommend it, if you want the robot. Not so much.
He really is like the old transformers star wars figures! Literally the best comparison I've heard for this guy.

If I ever see this on clearance, I’d probably pick it up. It’s pretty cool. To be fair, the only titan class figure I bought at msrp was Scorponok, because I freaking love g1 Scorponok.
It's worth it for the stuff it comes with and the Altmode.
I have an idea for a titan weaponizer that can be weapons for other titans or a ton for smaller figures

This figure has been an interesting process for me. I had 0 interest when it was first announced, then I got interested when I saw images, then I was having second thoughts watching this review, now I want him again by the end of the review.

This was made side by side by the takara designer who did titan scorponok, normally they don't have two titan projects side by side and scorponok was already proving to be an issue with budgets, more focus went on scorp in the designer side of things in japan. Hasbro mandated that this was to be the ark, it doesn't get to be any current comic character due to being tied to the kingdom story and overall WFC story.
I was told that this was designed by John Warden who's other work does bear some of these Halmarks.
And yeah, I was saying I wanted the Ark to be Vigilem. I din't want it to look like Vigilem outside of having his head.
@@PerspectiveEnd Figure king #270 has the interview with Shogo Hasui where he explains he was burdened with designing multiple big ticket items that he could not disclose as it was july 2020 at the time and that they were the same budget as scorponok.
What's even funnier about the last autobot was that he was instantly killed off in the first issue of the regeneration 1 comic. [Which is a good read as they pretty much the g2 and the movie better than g2 and the movie

I've talked about Vigilem several times, especially in reference to the Ark before. I'm kind of surprised you've never heard of him. I mean I get that you haven read the IDW comics at least not the Relevant ones, but since there are so few titans I would have thought you'd have heard of him.
In the old Continuity he was Leige Maximos personal Titan, and in the new one, he's a Titan that missed the wars of old and was eager to help the deceptions start a war.
The Marvel TF comics were popular with me. My parents never let me watch the toons. But comics were allowed. So I follow the Marvel TF comics religiously an never missed an issue. I still remember how depressed I was when I bought the last issue back in the day in the store an the series was ended early.
I get that, I'm just saying that like 95 out of 100 fans of Transformers didn't read the comics. But for some people it will be their main exposure.
I had the ark for a long time now when I found it in stores, kinda bought it by accident, but really like the ship mode and the robot mode is, ok? This ship mode for me is fantastic.
Yeah, I'm loving the ship mode it's all it needed to be to sell it self to me.

I worry that I was a bit too harsh on this thing. I mean his ship mode is TONS of fun, but man the robot mode is ugly and dull.
I wanted something similar to animated omega supreme. Oh and the right shoulder ratchet did end up breaking I had to take it apart and use glue now it only spins in one direction or else it will break again.

When I saw the box art I dislike the skinny waist and the thighs because of how skinny they are, and I'm glad I'm not the only one that find it weird like the video game character.
Also were you able to get the ark to hold Megatron like the box art
No. The main knuckles were too lose. The thumb worked so I had to utilize that more to hold him up in that one shot.

There’s actually a really cool detail in the ark mode we’re if you have the bridge in with optimus you can see him through the windshield if you shine a light in there

I bought him solely for an official ark, a big miss is not having a base mode which I would have preferred being a different alt mode instead of a robot form. Kinda like Skylynx.
That would have probably been the better option, but I just thought a better robot mode would have been cooler, now I just wish they went with a better ship mode.
@@PerspectiveEnd I think they should have had it stand up like take off and opened up like castle greyskull for use with core class figures. Then it could have the perfect outer look with a functional playset inside.
If the chest would just sit flat it might be acceptable exept for the hands

I don’t know what to say other then I’m glad I have don’t have to wait anymore. I like this figure other then the hands. Mainframe is cool and the golden disks are a nice touch.
I wish I liked the robot mode, but I love the Ark mode, and the stuff he comes with is GREAT.
The robot mode looks like a reject barbarian. With those big shins like a barbarians lower leg armor. Then there is that longsleeve shirt that cuts off at the middrif. Leaving the abs and upper thighs naked. He even has a Barbarians Diaper on. Covering his junk like some sort of cybertronian loincloth. Then there is his head why the fuck does this head not have a ball joint? Fucking what?!
Ya the spaceship mode is cool, but that robot mode... O and why the fuck do we not get a weapon?! I wouldnt mind if those GD turrets spun but they are static. Are the Ark engines spose to be the weapons? IDK and finally WHERE ARE ALL THE SEIGE PORTS!!!!!!?????
