Pointers and FFI will be covered. I'm not sure multithreading is within the scope of the book however. There will be some simple examples on multithreading, but I can't go deep into it I'm afraid. Going deep into multithreading is a whole book of its own.
As someone who is kinda in the late beginner to early intermediate stage (your target audience) A few thoughts/suggestions for potential other areas to cover: - examples of projects to try out after covering a topic. For me sometimes figuring out what to back up learning is difficult. - something about ui. So many times there is no talk of Ui even just a section with some framework or package recommendations. I am exploring game dev in odin but eventually I would want to build an engine if I decided to really dive in. - a section mentioning any programming patterns that work well or not so well in odin. Recently started reading game programming patterns. If you need a beta reader, keep me posted. Excited to see what you create.
Yo this is great! I was hoping someone would do something like this. This is exciting. As a python programmer who is learning Odin, this is really exciting.
While I'm not into Odin as much nowdays, I will still read the book because I find Odin to be a really nice language in it's syntax and features. I'm that kind of person that likes minimal and simple languages like C. At the end of the day, we just tell a computer to read and write numbers.
Will its focus be on Odin for Game Dev? I'm asking because I am mostly interested in Odin for game dev. However, there are others who may just want to learn Odin as a whole. Or maybe you teach Odin concepts in the context of game dev. Either way, let us know. I would like to buy this book.
Hi, while it will not focus on gamedev, there will be examples from gamedev since those are the ones that come very easily to me. So I would say it's useful for both gamedev and non-gamdevs. The primary focus will be to teach how things actually work and make things less mystical.
By web version I mean that it will use web technology, it will be a .html file with the whole book inside. But it will cost money to download it. There will be some kind of preview version of the first few chapters.
Very excited for this book. Please also have a deep focus on pointers, Multithreading and FFI (for assembly or calling C code etc).
Yeah, lots of lower level concepts unfamiliar to people without systems programming experience could use better teaching material.

@@karl_zylinski well then we'll learn multithreading in odin from your second book💯.

Thank you. I will consider your ideas!
Very excited to read the book. Always wanted to delve into odin deeper, was really looking to something like "the odin book".
Good luck with the book Karl. I look forward to it. As a full time C++ programmer and part time Odin dabbler this could save me a lot of time 👍

Waiting for your book! Ready to buy already!
Hey - good for you! Looking forward to following your progress.
The book is now available at odinbook.com/ ✨
I'm not really into programming books, but might get this one just to have it on my shelf
thank you!
Very nice, Keep up the GREAT WORK
A web version! Great announcement.
Nice! I'm ready to buy in already!
Very cool. I'm a fan of Jon Gjengset's book, "Rust for Rustaceans". Perhaps your book will serve a similar purpose for Odin users and contributors!
Looking forward to it a lot! :)
I was about to ask if you were going to. Also would have suggested a Udemy course if that was easier.
Anyway, awesome, look forward to it.

Cool
