That was a real good flinch @4.20 when the safety catch was still on. A lovely gun in the traditional style, we must keep such fine guns for generations to come.
You're so right about American shooters loving English guns, especially classic sXs designs.
I wish I could own some shotguns made in the UK. I think they are pieces of art.
Great video David! Yes, let’s bring them to America. Folks @ my local shooting ground love the 2 English SxS you helped me bring home with me.
Never seen one ,but i really like it.
Love a side by side every one should have 1 in their cabinet
We absolutely should import all fine English and Scottish doubles to the USA. We will appreciate them for you, and won’t have to report it to our local constable.
I still turn up on a game day with my side by side, usually the only one, will never shoot any other. I use a 12 and 20 OU on clays but not in the field.
Very nice and gentle, I wish to have one of round receiver guns.❤
We do love our shotguns in America.Great review!
As well made as any London made best shotgun. It’s a John Dickson & Son Round Action trigger plate. It’s not some round bodied box lock. Please get the spelling correct, Dickson with a ck. Thanks for showing what is arguably the finest handling side by side. All the best from a Dickson from Scotland 🏴 GD
Stunning gun David!
Well the cost of hand built can be prohibitive. Unique actions that are built can be hard to service and maintain without good access to the manufacturer. Companies like Blaser demonstrate the extremely high quality finished guns they can produce at scale. The marketplace competing for our money and attention is competitive.
Dickson round action is one of the best shotguns ever made. I would love to have one.
Something doesn’t look right in your video, the fore end appears to have Southgate type ejectors. Likewise the pendulum safety was very much a MacNaughton characteristic. In fact it looks exactly like my James MacNaughton, I would be interested in your answer.
Yes, that’s a MacNaughton, no top fastener. Good try but some of us do know our guns, the John Dickson has coil spring ejectors all entirely within the action. Nothing at all in the fore end. An absolute total failure beginning with the incorrect spelling of the great Dickson name. Get your father to do your programs, he knows something about guns.
The only firearms I’ve ever had trouble with, were expensive hand made ones unfortunately. I’ve had better luck with second hand antiques on average. 🤷🏽♂️
They used to be made in Dockgreen
I see what you did there. Countless will not have a clue
There famous for there found actioned side by sides it’s what I think when I hear there name
They are a work of art, those old Gunmakers were in a realm of their own, Fraser, MacNaughton, Martin, Henry, and others, from the Scottish makers, the over and under has taken over, some see no valid reason to use a SBS.
Plus the age of the gun has a lot to do with some of the opinions, with modern steels now used, some people feel justified in not using an old gun, made many years ago, compared to what is available now in the high end market.
The overall risk with money in the hip pocket, with some old guns in the many thousands, is questionable to many people, any gain in having a gun made many years ago, seems a bit of a risk in the long run.
And most important to me, is what is spent, has to endure many years, because to most people the luxury of spending thousands on a gun, or guns, isn't a reality, and if a large amount was spent, you only want to do it once.
Does Dickson make an over under?
Yes they do make over and unders
@TSCTheshootingchannel can you review one of those some time? I bet it's beutiful.
Do your lines B4 videoing. DiCKson
