Hey! Just a little note for Bill: His Pulse Tracker would have netted him only one card from Ob Nixilis, not three (it's always 1 per trigger). Then, however, the Bontu's Monument and Blood Artist on Sean's board would have given him cards. :)
Point of order: Gev isn't a villain in the Bloomburrow story! He is, in fact, part of Mabel's party of good guys trying to save the Valley from the chaos of the Calamity Beast attacks. He's a good boy.
I might also be the only one that thinks this but I don’t consider Maha to be a true villain. They had their egg stolen and were desperately trying to find it. I think many parents would act in a similar way if they were a giant elemental owl. Maha is basically Liam Neeson from Taken
Back in February he missed his flight to MagicCon Chicago, drove 14 hours to get there, joined us for a blackhawks game, then came in first at a 110-person Standard event the next day, and drove home immediately after. The man's just built different.
Insane! Thank you guys for building (and Alex for Piloting) the Ygra deck- it made me realize that the beast will slot perfectly into my Meren of Clan Nel Toth deck.
11:40 - Ob Nixilis triggers when one or more opponents each lose exactly 1 life. Since each opponent loses 1 life at the same time to the trigger, it's one Ob Nilixis trigger, not three.
Amazing game, love the decks. May have to build the infamous cruelclaw myself. Looked a lot of fun. Ob Nixils should only exile a card if one or more opponents lose 1 life. So should have only been 1 card from electrostatic field/pulse tracker, but would also trigger for blood artist and bontu's monument as it doesn't have to be you causing it.
Ob trigges were both not only wrong but also missed coming from that Blood Artist on the field. Not a complaint, just breaks my heart. Super sick game to watch oterhwise :)
This applies to Overpowering Attack if it's cast off Cruel Claw as well! The only card that works during combat (besides Great Train Heist because we're trying to cast for free) is Savage Beating :)
It looks like you had a lot more fun in this video than in the unupgraded pre-con ones. But even if you didn't, I definitely did! Original brews are definitely the way to go!
Every time Alex calls out his commander I understand “Jürgen”. I find this very funny, because it makes the big kitty give the impression of a German fifty-year old who’s in a very bad mood.
I’ve been building my own Gev deck and I would love to see Bill bring back the deck! It’s been really challenging since I’m not much of a deck builder, but I love the little guy too much not to give it a go
Just so you know, cruelclaw does not play well with extra combat spells. They didn't quite play it correctly, but the "after this main phase there is an additional combat phase..." will NOT work when cast during combat, which Cruelclaw does.
This game was freaking cool. Shame Maha didn't get to do much though. I'm so happy that Bill made Gev! I've been looking at that lil guy a lot. It seems like a super cool deck. Looking forward to much much more.
So... I have seen Gev and was like "oh he looks interesting" ... But somehow I could not see him just being a ping deck that goes wide AND big.. I thought about pairing him with Laughing Jasper Flint or Viashino/Lizard tribal... but pings and tokens? I feel stupid now for not seeing something that obvious. In general this is the second commander in bloomburrow that I am falling in love as I kinda realized (by accident) that all my brews lead to token-ey go wide and swarmy stuff.... First one being Wick... Ironically I think Bloomburrow has so many great commanders at rare, which heavily outshine the mythic commanders in this set - e.g. Baylen, Finneas, Gev, Alania, Wick & Vren while mythic commanders seem to be rather specific or don't pop as well as the rare ones.
I would like to see you guys build bloomburrow tribals and face off / Bats look to be AWESOME when supplanted with older cards / both the chance for drain loops and the ability to cause life differentials followed up with using life as a resource for big plays should be great. Otters Loaded with double or triple cast damage cards and direct damage spells should be great. Squirrels streamlined into tribal token swings and big mana pump board spells cant be bad at all. And Frogs have the choice of at least 3 different commanders with different 3rd colors / Flubs the fool being a CRAZY landfall strat . I feel like there are some pretty great possibilities out of this set.
I really like the idea of the bat strat the most / the ability to say "that creature there is too big and has indestructible, I will pay life = to its toughness to give it -X/-X tokens to bring its toughness to 0 / despite being indestructible/ it is dead" or " I will pay 15 life to draw 15 cards " great classic cards with a solid use in a strat entirely themed off drain.
Love Gev to death, and I wanna build him with a focus on Lizards, but I’ve been struggling with the play pattern a fair bit. Thanks to this game I can see a bit better how he plays out, though I’m sure he’d be even better in a slower pod than these decks were lol
ive wanted to do this with my pod where we record and post our games because all the commanders my friends play are some of the most toxic and the games get insane but im not sure how to go about recording the games in the correct way to where you can see the cards and us and all that. do you guys have a tutorial video of your setup by chance? love the content. keep it up!
first of all: Thanks for the cool video, I really enjoyed your builds! But I have one question: Does Fury of the Horde work with The Infamous Cruelclaw? Because I think it shouldn't. It says on the card "after this main phase" and you are actually still in your combat phase when casting it, aren't you? Thats the reason I play only savage beating as additional combat phase spell in my Jeleva-Deck. Sorry if there are any mistakes, actually commenting from germany :)
To point out a different rules thing than the rest of the comments: Fury of the Horde shouldn't have given Jim an extra combat! It says "**after this main phase**, there is an additional combat phase", which (for whatever reason) means that it only creates additional phases if it's resolving during a main phase. Unfortunately, Cruelclaw's trigger has you casting the spell during the combat damage step. Very strange and unintuitive for sure.
9:33 “no one whiffs like Jim” I think I’d give him a run for his money, I had a Krark/Thrasios deck where I cast Dragon’s Approach and Slimes Against Humanity, I cast both one game 7 times each and I failed ALL of my flips. The next game I got 5 full hits with Gishath, I got 1 dinosaur, all of the dinos were clumped in the lower third after shuffle and pile shuffle 😭😂
Is there any reason to play Mithril Coat before your commander? Since it didn't auto-equip on etb, you had to pay the 3 mana to equip later anyway, which is the cost of the card and it has flash for the "gotcha!" moments. Maybe there is some reason to do it, but I didn't get it.
it uses your mana on a turn when not much was going on, and it's indestructible so it's probably gonna stick. also, I like the inevitability/intimidation factor of "yes, my huge commander will be indestructible"
@@frostownik but the fact that not much was going on doesn't feel relevant here. Later he equipped at sorcery speed using 3 mana anyways and his commander could eat removal. I don't think they need to play optimally, I just wanted to know of there was any deeper reason or it was just a "I want to play something this turn" kind of thing.
small comment, if an extra combat step spells says "after this main phase" is not cast during a main phase, it will not give you the extra combat step. So Jim casting Fury of the Horde with Cruelclaw would only untap his creatures and nothing more
“No copper tablet” that deck will live on in infamy within the spike feeders community, well done wheeler’s friend who made it
Watch the video “commander gameplay 1 damage at a time” if you want to fully appreciate copper tablet
Yes I think I need to build that deck and make copper tablet infamous in my lgs.
We should all make copper tablet turbo
i am building this deck. i just have to find a copy of erebos. i need to have it non proxy
Bill: "I die to commander damage"
Ben Brode: *wakes up in a cold sweat*
I love dealing commander damage. To quote Brian kibler, “if mowu gets to big too fast he kinda just kills everyone” and I live by that
LMFAO
LOVED this episode.
Fun fact! According to Moxfield, Jim's deck's CMC without lands is 4.84!
Man those are rookie numbers. We're sending him back to the basement.

Came here to say this lol
Comment for bill and for the algorithm: Ob nixilis kingpin only gets you one card per trigger no matter how many opponents lost 1 life all at once
Adding that Ob triggers even when it’s an opponent’s source causing lifeloss lol
Yeah I was thinking the same he lost so many triggers

@@ezraandersen7133 I was noticing that as well. he missed a few triggers.
@@selenagonzalez4943 not too many, cuz the blood artist triggers often went pointed towards Bill lmao
Love the amount of games you guys put out around a new release, really showcasing the set in all its glory, and damn is this a set full of glory

Nah Maha definitely isn't a villain.
Ygra is a giant question mark too, given that we see none of them. The only definite villain here is Cruelclaw.
Glarb is like the only other clear villain in the story I recall, weird he wasn't here

Saturday!
Alex's voice, a perfect capture of Ygra's hunger
Alex: "Hopefully we did a good job building these decks."
If not, we blame Aaron for being away!
What I like most about your gameplays is the discussion after! Thanks guys!
15:38 the not yet was awesome!!!!!!! I loved it. I do that all the time

Merci pour le moment, toujours un plaisir !
I immediately ordered one of the squire boxes at my LGS when I saw them here. Looks great for Commander or my One Piece Decks
Seeing Infamous Cruelclaw in action is so good. Its one of the legends I'm very pumped to build around.
11:40 - Ob Nixilis triggers when one or more opponents each lose exactly 1 life. Since each opponent loses 1 life at the same time to the trigger, it's one Ob Nilixis trigger, not three.
And it should have triggered of Sean's Bontu Monument as well.
Good I'm glad someone else all that and pointed it out I wondered why he was exalting three and putting three counters on
I love the screenshot for this because everyone other than Jim looks villainous and Jim just looks like he has indigestion hahahaha
(he does)
Holy cow, these look fun. Also this played the way a bunch of black decks should. Great stuff!
Thank you for the Three Amigos “He’s In-Famous” reference. I’ve been waiting for it

Loved the episode. I'm always impressed by the spike feeders' ability to build a balanced and interactive pod of four decks.
I love that Yrga is just a big dumb angry cat. Like no thoughts simply smashing
4 black decks, 2 are rakdos, 27 minute game. Life totals were going DOWN
I still sit here constantly wanting Alex's shirts for my own lol

If you cast Fury of the Hoard durring end of combat, you will untap but not get an additional combat, because it says "after this main phase"
Huh, TIL!

This is such mayhem. Greatest set ever made.
Been excited for this episode ever since Jim tweeted about his Cruelclaw deck.
Gev is NOT evil, he’s part of Mabel’s party.
Yeah, one of the unfortunate parts of having to film before the set or story is released!
The calamity beasts are gonna be no joke in commander… this was the fastest game!
I am so excited to see Ygra! I was building this as spoilers came out so this is awesome!
Every deck looked super fun.
Glad I caught that ending bit. I would have sworn I was a subscriber already
Wtf your intro is too good! Love the content

That Cruelclaw deck is so sweet holy- I wanna build a deck around him now after seeing the insane shenanigans Jim got up to 😂
Cool to see Howl from Beyond!

What a wild and wonderful game. High fives all around
“Nobody whiffs like jim does” came back with a vengeance lol
That Cruelclaw is the commanderest commander deck to ever commander with all those 7-9 drops, I'm really digging that.
I’ve been building my own Gev deck and I would love to see Bill bring back the deck! It’s been really challenging since I’m not much of a deck builder, but I love the little guy too much not to give it a go
